Electricity Supply:
Electricity supply is 220 volts throughout Spain with 2 pin wall sockets. For any European countries that
utilise 240 volts e.g. UK and Ireland most electrical equipment will function adequately.
If you intend to use the UK electrical plugs then you will need an electricity plug adapter that will convert
the standard 3 pin socket into a two pin socket. In the US where the electricity supply is 110 volts a
transformer would be required to step down the voltage to 110 volts. Damage to the electrical appliance
can occur if you attempt to use a 110 volt rated electrical appliance with a 220 volt supply.

+34. To phone Spain you would normally dial 0034 then the number.
Opening hours:
The normal opening hours for shops are Monday to Saturday from around 9am or 10am until about
1.30pm or 2pm. In the evening they open from 4.30pm - 5.00 until 8pm or 9pm. Most places are closed
on Sundays. Hours may vary in summer.
Banks generally open from 9am to 2pm from Monday to Friday, and from 9am to midday or 1pm on
Saturday. Hours may vary in summer.
Climate:
Spain covers a large area and it has territories outside the European mainland, therefore the climate in
the different parts of Spain can be very different:
- The north and northwestern part:
This area is influenced by Atlantic depressions, especially in autumn and winter. But even in the summer
the weather can be variable. This part of Spain has the most precipitation and cloudiness. In the interior

of Spain the sun shines about 10 hours a day, averagely, but to the coast it is only 6 or 7 hours a day. The
average temperature in January on the northwestern coast is about 10°C and this area rarely has frost. But
the interior knows temperatures well under 0°C. In the middle of the summer (July) it can become 22°C
on the coast and 25 -30°C more to the interior of the country. This area has quite a lot of precipitation:
1000 mm (coast) to more than 2500 mm in some mountainous areas. In the winter months there is rain on
16-20 days. In the summer it rains for 12-14 days a month (at least a little), but less in the interior land.
- The east coast along the Mediterranean:
The mediterranean climate distinguishes itself by the mild, humid winters and the long, dry summers.
The coldest month is January, and the average temperature around Barcelona then is 8°C and around
Malaga about 13°C. But averages don't say everything: it can be much colder or much warmer than the
average temperatures, freezing or summer temperatures.
Sometimes there isn't any precipitation at all in the summertime and when there is some, it is mostly from
short during thunderstorms. But the area around Barcelona is an exception to that: even in the most dry
month, July, there falls an average of 70 mm rain, mostly from heavy thundershowers. But there is always
a lot of sun and temperatures vary from 28-30°C. The interior of Spain:
The big differences in altitude make the climate varied: in winter, at higher altitudes one can do winter
sports and in summer it can be very hot. The more one goes into the interior of the peninsula, the colder
the winters are and the hotter the summers, whereby it is colder in the north than in the south. Frost isn't
uncommon in the winter. Average temperature in Madrid in January is 9°C, near Cordoba 13°C. In
summertime temperatures vary from 25-35°C but sometimes they are as as high as 40°C.

You can look for accommodation in and around Granada on the homepage of the University. There you
need to click on “BOLSA DE PISO” which has a selection of flats. Other options can be found on
www.easypiso.com or www.pisocompartido.com. If you are already in Granada, you can also look for
information on flats at the telephone booths. People generally post offers for apartments there, as well as
cultural events such as dance courses.

Public transport in Granada
City buses
One bus trip within Granada (no matter how many stops) costs 1.20 €. On Fridays and Saturdays there is
also a night bus Búho which costs 1.40 €. You can also buy a multi-trip card (€5 for 7 trips, €10 for 16, and
€20 for 33 trips). Timetables for the individual routes are not available, but major bus stops along the
main boulevards will have screens telling you when the next bus arrives.

Climate in Granada
From November to February the sky is often blue. It is warm when the sun shines (around 18º) but it gets
cold at night with frost in December and January. The best time to visit Granada is in spring (March to
June) and autumn (September/October) when the temperature is just perfect with warm and sunny days
(25-28º). During July and August it can be very hot and on some days the temperature reaches 40º.
Granada has a dry heat which is much more bearable than humid heat. There is very little rainfall
(November - April) although every few years there are spells when it rains very heavily.
Lunch time – the biggest difference
Lunch is served between 14.00 and 15.00 and is the most important meal. Tapas are a popular lunch item.
A tapa is a small portion of food which you get when you buy a drink. To give customers tapas is a
universal custom throughout Spain. In some places, such as Granada, the tapas are free.
Opening times in Spain
Though business hours are dictated by law, they can vary from town to town. Almost all Spanish shops
still keep the famous siesta and most of them open from 09.30 to 14.00 and then again from 17.00 to 20.30,
Monday to Friday. On Saturdays many small shops and corner shops close for the day at 14.00. The big
shopping malls, department stores and supermarkets stay open from 10.00 to 21.00 and sometimes
22.00. Chemists normally keep shop hours from 10.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 20.00. In bigger cities there
will always be some that are open 24 hours. As in many European countries pharmacies post a listing in
the window indicating whether or not they are open at night or on weekends. You can also find
information in the local press.
Furthermore, Spanish banks are open from 08.30 am to 14.00 during the week and some open one
afternoon per week or from 09.00 to 13.00 on Saturdays.
Restaurants have the following opening times:
Breakfast time is usually from 08.00 to 10.00 and lunch is served in restaurants from 14.00 to 16.00. Dinner
is available from 20.30 till midnight. Before lunch and dinner time you can get tapas to eat in smaller
restaurants and some bars.
Exchange Money in Granada
Upon arriving in Granada, one can exchange money in several different ways. There are Currency
Exchange counters at the Granada Airport. There is a Exchange office in "Calle Reyes Catolicos number
31" near "Corral del carbon" and "Alcaiceria". The branch name is "interchange" and accept foreign
currencies exchange, American Express travelers cheques, cash advances, and western union. Opens
since 9 am to 10 pm every day. Except sundays that opens since 11 am to 9 pm.
One can also exchange cash in most all banks. Don’t forget to bring your Passport when exchanging
money.

Hints for shopping
There are a lot of shopping facilities in and around the city. There are some big supermarkets malls in the
centre (e. g. Mercadona: C/ Acera del Darro, 98, Camino de Ronda, 43; Lidl: Avda. Fernando de los
Ríos (Barrio Zaidín)) and in the outskirts of Granada (e. g. Alcampo: Avda Juan Pablo ll nº 88;
Mercadona: Avda. Italia; Lidl: C/ de la Sultana, nº 7 ; Carrefour: Ctra. Armilla, s/n).
In the centre, e. g. C/ Recogidas, Plaza Trinidad, C/ San Antón, C/ Mesones there is a big variety of
small shops and boutiques (mostly clothes, shoe, gift and book shops). You can also find lots of small
corner shops with reasonable prices in C/ Camino de Ronda.
Additionally, Granada boasts a huge variety of shops with goods from Morocco that are mostly located in
the most picturesque corners of the city, such as C/ Zacatín (near the Cathedral), C/ Calderería Vieja y
C/ Caldereria Nueva, C/ Carrera del Darro and Barrio del Realejo. They are worth a visit even if you do
not want to buy anything because of their strong resemblance to Moroccan «souks». If you look for
something special to take back home, you will find for example lamps, carpets, clothes, jewellery and
pottery with that certain Arabic touch.
There is a gypsy fleamarket every Sunday, in front of Granada Bus station.
You will find a lot of offers, such as second hand clothing, books, CDs. You can get there with Bus nº 10,
leaving from C/ Camino de Ronda or Bus nº 3 or 33, leaving from C/ Gran Vía de Colón. If you want to get
typical food from your country or if you want to go shopping on Spanish bank holidays, usually you can
go to El Corte Inglés (e. g. Carrera de la Virgen, 20-22). It might be a bit more expensive, but you will
probably find what you are looking for. They also provide lots of things from other countries and special
food for allergy sufferers (gluten etc.).
If it’s past 10 pm and you need something, you can make use of the 24-hour-shops. There is one in C/ San
Antón and one in Plaza Nueva.

Jogging
If you don´t want to go jogging in the city centre, there is a path, close to the river Rio Genil, which is
situated in the north east of Granada. Next to the river there is a sandy path to run and walk. You can start
next to the Puente del Genil, for example, go past the Paseo de los Basilios and keep going straight
ahead. (Distance to the next village is 5 km one way.)
Another nice path where you can go for a walk or jog and do sports is at the Llano de la Perdiz, near the
Alhambra, in the direction of the cemetery, situated in the north of Granada.

► The Alhambra
The Alhambra was a palace, a citadel, and a fortress. It was also the home of the Nasrid sultans, high
government officials, servants of the court and elite soldiers from the 13th to the 14th century. Today, the
monument is divided into four main areas: the Palaces, the military zone or Alcazaba, the city or
Medina and the agricultural estate of the Generalife. All of these areas are surrounded by woods,
gardens and orchards.
Admission to the Alhambra Palace is restricted to the timetables of morning, afternoon or evening,
according to the type of ticket purchased.

The La CAIXA Bank allows tickets to be bought up to three months in advance through their website at
www.servicaixa.com. When you arrive at the Alhambra you can then collect your tickets at the ticket

office or at a bank of yellow machines in an alcove to right of the ticket offices. You need to insert the
credit card which you used to pay for the tickets in order to collect them.
The La CAIXA bank also has a telephone service whereby you can buy tickets by credit card. You will
have to select either a morning or afternoon visit but cannot specify the time for entering the Nasrid
Palaces. Operators speak English.
Make sure you have your reference number and credit card that was used to make the purchase when

Most of your time at the Alhambra Palace complex will be spent in the Nasrid Palaces. A complete tour
of the Alhambra Palace complex takes about three hours. You should organise your visit according to the
assigned time of admission to the Nasrid Palaces which you will be given when you buy your tickets.
Entrance to the Nasrid Palaces is strictly limited to the half hour indicated on your ticket due to the
restrictions on maximum capacity in this area (350 people each half hour). You will be refused admission
outside this time frame.
Some tickets do go on sale every morning for the same day when the ticket office opens at 08.30. Please
note you'll need to get there early as long queues quickly develop especially during the high season.
All Sold Out?
The Alhambra often sells out and many people who leave buying tickets until the last minute find
themselves unable to gain access. A possible solution is to buy the Granada City Pass (Bono Turístico,
see above) which provides access to all the city's main tourist attractions including the Alhambra. These
passes are usually still available even when Alhambra tickets have sold out.
The Alhambra Ticket costs 14,30 €.
► The Cathedral

As is the case of most Christian buildings in Granada, the Cathedral was built on the site of the former
Mosque. The site of the former Mosque has since been replaced by four buildings: the Cathedral, the
Royal Chapel, the Sagrario, and the Merchants' Exchange. One of the most striking facts about the
Cathedral is the long time it took to build. Work on the Cathedral began on 15th March 1523 and it was
not completed until 1704, 180 years later.

Designs for the Royal Chapel began in 1504 and it was built between 1505 and 1521 by Enrique Egas. It
was commissioned by the Catholic Monarchs for their burial site. As both, Queen Isabel and King
Fernando died before the Royal Chapel was finished, they were first buried in the Friary of San
Francisco in the Alhambra. They were then later moved to the Chapel once it had been completed, and
buried alongside King Felipe and Queen Juana (known more commonly as Juana «la Loca» – Juana «the
Mad»). Although their original idea was for all future Spanish Kings and Queens to be buried here, this
did not happen as the monastery in El Escorial was used instead. The tombs were carved out of marble
by the Tuscan sculptor Domenico Fancelli. This was the last gothic church to be built in Spain as Isabel
and Fernando did not like the new Renaissance style of the time.

► Museum of the poet Federico García Lorca in the García Lorca Park
Spanish poet and dramatist, Federico García Lorca was a talented artist and a member of the Generation
of 1927, a group of writers who advocated avant-gardism in literature. Lorca's central themes in his
works are love, pride, passion and violent death, which also marked his own life. The Spanish Civil War
began in 1936 and Lorca was seen by the right-wing forces as an enemy. The author hid from the soldiers
but he was soon found, dragged from a friend's house, and shot in Granada on August 19/20 of 1936

without trial by the Nationalists. The circumstances of his death are still shrouded in mystery. He was
buried in a grave that he had been forced to dig for himself.

General Information on medical treatment
If you feel ill or have an accident, the first place to go is the emergency room in a hospital. Medical
consultations in town do exist, but you need to make an appointment first and pay (with cash or credit
card) after the treatment. Most doctors work in hospitals rather than private practice.
To register in the emergency entrance you need your passport and your EHIC (the European health
insurance card for which you can apply in your insurance company of your home country; have a look at
the conditions: http://ec.europa.eu/social/main.jsp?catId=559).
When you are registered by the staff in the lobby and you have told them what your problem is, you will
be asked to take a seat in the waiting room until they call you. Be advised that you may have a long
wait. Afterwards you will go to the examination room for treatment and help. Usually, you will get
medication that you can pick up in one of the pharmacies in town.

Sierra Nevada National Park
The Sierra Nevada is a dramatic, rugged and extensive mountain range, the highest in Europe after the
Alps and the most significant section of the Cordillera Penibética. The protected area encompasses
86,208 ha of torrential rivers, sheer-sided gorges, stony scree slopes, glacial lakes between snowy
summits and, in the foothills of the Alpujarras, cultivated terraces of almond trees and vegetables. There
are over 20 peaks more than 3,000m, which makes it the second highest mountain range in Europe after
the Alps. The two highest peaks in the Iberian Peninsula are in the park, the Mulhacén at 3,482m, closely
followed by the Pico Del Veleta, at 3,396m. On a clear day these mountains can be seen from as far away
as Africa. In the west of the park is Solynieve, Europe's southernmost ski resort, where the ski season
generally runs from November to April. Apart from skiers and snowboarders at the resort, the park is
popular with hikers, climbers and birdwatchers.

Alpujarras
On the south side of the Sierra Nevada lies one of the oldest, most picturesque crannies of Andalusia, the
70 km-long east-west jumble of valleys called Las Alpujarras. Here, arid hillsides split by deep ravines
alternate with oasis-like villages set by rapid streams and surrounded by vegetable gardens, orchards
and woodlands. The Alpujarras are not only a jumping-off point for many Sierra Nevada routes, but also
a fascinating area to walk through and visit villages like Pampaneira, Bubión, Capileira or Trevélez.
Old paths between these intriguing, old-fashioned villages pass through constantly changing scenery.
This area remains a world apart, with a rare sense of timelessness and mystery.
Reminders of the Muslim past are ubiquitous in the form of the Berber-style villages and the terracing
and irrigation of the land. Travellers who have been to Morocco may notice a resemblance between
villages in the Alpujarras and those in Morocco's Atlas Mountains, from where the Alpujarra style was
introduced in Muslim times by Berber settlers. The huddled white houses seem to clamber over each
other in an effort not to slide down the hillsides. Streets to narrow for vehicles ramble between them,
decked with flowery balconies. There is also the possibility to discover the Alpujarras by horse or by
bike.

Festivals
The main characteristics of Granada's festivals are deeply rooted in traditions whose history goes back to
the time of Renaissance.
Therefore, in discussing Granada's Festivals, richly varied age-old traditions, that are Christian, Arabic
and Jewish have to be described becasuse they have all become totally interwoven which each other.
JANUARY
Three Wizards Parade
January 5th
It dates back from the end of the 19th century and it is the oldest one in Spain. It is a parade symbolizing
the arrival to the city of the Three Wizards. It starts at Rector López Argüeta street and finishes at Plaza
del Carmen, in front of the Town Hall.
The statues of the three Wizards Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar are usually played by public
personalities of Granada and Andalusia. Since 1982 circus characters and animals were added to the
procession.
This entourage cannot be more heterogeneus and shows from the traditional camels and horses to
different carriages from where a rain of countless sweets fall over the children all along the route.

February 1st. Pilgrimage, Closest Sunday to February 1st.
San Cecilio is the Patron Saint of the city of Granada and the Pilgrimage or Romería dates back from 1599,
when a plague devastated Granada and, as the tradition says, we were saved by an appealing the saint.
This Pilgrimage takes place in the Sacromonte neighbourhood, around the Abbey bearing the same
name. The views, the cave-houses and vegetation give the area a spectacular character. Close to this day
there are public, military and religious acts, and takes placer a solar offering and a solemn mass.

The Pilgrimage was created by the City Council, so it has an very important role. One of the most popular
bits is sharing Granada tipical products: “salaíllas”, “tortas jayuyas”, beans, codfish and wine offered by
the Council to all the audience enjoying all over the hill with their family and friends. They take these
products along with many other homemade ones to the rhythm of popular music and dance.

Mariana Pineda Public Festival
Closest Sunday to May 26th
It is the most recently incorporated public festival to the calendar. It honours Mariana Pineda, heroine
from Granada who was executed on May 26th , 1831 – by “garrote vil” – for having embroidered a
Republican flag.
The different acts organized by the City Council take place in the square bearing the name of the
heroine.

Corpus Festival is the most important festival of the city, it starts every year on Monday at midnight with
the Encencido, that is to say, the lighting of the thousands of light bulbs on the main gate and finishes on
next Sunday with a fireworks show.
The “Feria” or Festival, which starts on Monday previous to Thrusday’s Corpus Christi Day and finishes
on the next Sunday, it is located on the outskirts of the city with music stalls and attractions. There are two
procesiones or parades on Wednesday (la Tarasca) and Thursday.

Last Sunday in September, people activity is constant over Puerta Real, Plaza de Bibataubín and Carrera
de la Virgen street. Grandparents go with their children and grandchildren on the route of the sweet
smelling winter fruits: figs, quinces, acerolas, pomegranates, jujubes, apricots... chickpea culins and
“tortas de la Virgen”, the typical Granada cake made of sugar, cream or chocolate.

Un recorrido de 48 horas por rincones sobresalientes
Sábado
12.00 Carmen de la Victoria
Mejor empezar por un plato fuerte. Una atración de belleza de los que tiran de espaldas. La entrada al
Carmen de la Victoria, en la cuesta del Chapiz, da paso a una de las vistas más deslumbrantes que
ofrece el Albaicín. Los jardines de este Carmen (del árabe harm, viña, nombre que recibían en Granada
las huertas) ofrecen una quietud y armonía únicos. El edificio es uns residencia de la universidad
granadina.
13.00 Palacio de los Córdova
Antes de abandonar la cuesta del Chapiz merece la pena cruzar de acera y asomarse a la Escuela de
Estudios Árabes, cuyos jardines nos hacen comprobar que la postal de la Alhambra admite muchos
ángulos. Un poco más abajo, en dirección el río Darro, está el Palacio de los Córdova, precedido por
unos jardines con dos paseos paralelos: la bóveda de laurel y el paseo rómantico. El edificio alberga el
archivo histórico municipal y posee un patio porticado bastante austero, pero con unas puertas madera
talladas de gran interés.
14.00 Alto para el tapeo
En pleno Albaicín se alza la pequeña Plaza San Miguel el Bajo, y a los pies de la iglesia del siglo XVI
están las terrazas, casi siempre con clientela variopinta. Músicos callejeros suelen apagar el bullicio.
Pero, ojo, no son aficionados, y a menudo se puede oír a guitarristas de primera. Lo mejor de la plaza es
su variedad. Hay cinco restaurantes, pero ninguno parecido. Desde el más sofisticado, también en el
precio, hasta los más caseros y de andar por casa. Todos con la buena onda de una plaza animada,
dominada por la cruz de San Miguel, y donde sólo hay casitas bajas y apenas pasan coches.
16.00 Teterías
Para bajar la comida, nada mejor que cruzar la calle de Elvira y asomarse a Calderería, o calle de las
teterías, para darle al paladar sabores dulces. Además de incontables variedades de té se pueden
disfrutar pasteles árabes o fumar en cachimba. O incluso adentrarse calle arriba en uno de los bazares y
dedicirse por unas babuchas, alfombras o todo tipo de inciensos para la casa, en una especie de
pequeño zoco con callejuelas estrechas.
18.00 Arte contemporáneo
El Centro José Guerrero ocupa un edificio rehabilitado en la Alcaicería, el centro mercantil más
importante de la medina árabe, antaño dedicado al comercio de la seda. Reconvertido exquisitamente
por el arquitecto Antonio Jiménez Torrecillas en templo local del arte contemporáneo, al margen de la
colección permanente de Guerrero, desde su última planta se puede disfrutar de un mirador hacia la
catedral con vistas impresionantes.
20.00 Corral del Carbón
Desde la avenida de los Reyes Católicos, el Corral del Carbón es un rincón escondido de la época de

las nazaríes (siglo XIV) al que hay que asomarse. Antaño pensión mora, hospedaje de carboneros, corral
de comedias y casa de vecinos, hoy es un escenario ocasional para obras de teatro. Destaca la portada,
con un gran arco de herradura y un zaguán con una cúpula de mocárabes.
20.30 Atardecer con vistas
Para encontrar emociones intensas con la puesta de sol y el tono rojizo que refleja la Alhambra hay todo
un manual de miradores y rincones desde el Albaicín. El encuentro más famoso y multitudinario se da en
el Mirador de San Nicolás, donde el diálogo con el célebre monumento está a la misma altura, de tú a
tú. Se dan cita jóvenes, músicos y rastas, que hacen del silencio un bien inalcanzable. Si se quiere sentir
hacia adentro es mejor huir hacia otro rincón porque la banda sonora de los típicos timbales está
interpretada casi siempre por aficionados.
22.00 Terraza del Páprika
Justo después de atravesar el Arco de Elvira, a la izquierda se abre la cuesta de Abarqueros, una de
esas estampas de calles empedradas tan habituales en el Albaicín. La terraza del Páprika es una opción
que el calor hace más que recomendable. Entre las estrellas de la cocina, la templada con rúcula y el
bacalao al lemongrass. Para alternar no hace falta mucho esfuerzo. Basta andar unos siete metros hasta el
otro lado de la cuesta y acordarse en el Arco Iris, marisquería menos chic pero con más sabor castizo.
Cualquiera que haya pisado esta ciudad sabe que los mejores momentos siempre llegan a la hora de las
cañas. Las tapas, a cuenta de la casa, acompañan los tragos y hacen que un almuerzo más que decente
salga por precios irrisorios.

10.00 Parque de las Ciencias
Una apuesta divertida para los más curiosos es el Parque de las Ciencias. Un museo interactivo para no
parar quieto. El truco está en acercarse a la cultura científica sin miedo, y no sólo atender la explicación
de los fenómenos físicos, sino también poder aplicarlo con nuestras propias manos. Tan divertido es
experimentar como observar las caras de asombro de los niños, que suelen ser legión entre las
visitantes del museo. Además de permitir jugar con la luz y el sonido para simular a los sabios, el museo
ofrece tres joyas; un fascinante mariposario tropical, el planetario y el módulo agujero negro.
12.00 Restos arqueológicos
A media altura de la carrera del Darro está el Museo Arqueológico, ubicado en la Casa de Castril,
edificio de decoración plateresca del siglo XVI. En su interior se exhiben jarrones de la etapa nazarí
junto a estatuas romanas y ánforas de aceite y vino. También se remonta al paleolítico con herramientas
de piedra tallada encontradas en la provincia, así como pequeñas cerámicas del neolítico.
13.00 Carmen de la Fundación Rodríguez Acosta
En la colina de la Alhambra se alza el Carmen de la Fundación Rodríguez Acosta, uno de los puntos
más altos del barrio del Realejo. Construido a principios del siglo XX, tanto el edificio como sus
espectaculares jardines fueron declarados monumento nacional. No les faltaba razón a los expertos. Los
jardines son unos laberintos de cipreses y distintas alturas que miren a Sierra Nevada desde un paraje
con pérgolas y columnas donde siempre corre la brisa. Las pequeñas fuentes y el ruido del agua de los
jardines sirven de bálsamo para regular el estrés motivado por esa imposible sensación de querer
atrapar la ciudad en dos días, para luego regresar con la retina llena y el disco duro satisfecho. Además
del museo, con la colleción del pintor José María Rodríguez-Acosta, puede visitarse el Instituto y Museo

Gómez-Moreno, con obras arqueológicas y un archivo especializado. Entre las piezas excepcionales
destacan algunas egipcias, y merece la pena la biblioteca, con uns amplia gama de ediciones antiguas y
encuadernaciones especiales. Sus paredes huelen a sabiduría.
14.00 Casa Manuel de Falla
A sólo dos calles, en otra pequeña ladera, está la casa del compositor Manuel de Falla, un pequeño y
austero carmen que, sin embargo, conserva preciosas reliquias del maestro gaditano, entre ellas su
piano y su escritorio. Ayudan a entender su obra la pasión religiosa, su hipocondría, y las cartas y
confidencias con amigos como Stravinski, Juan Ramón o Lorca.
15.00 Tregua para comer
La parada es en la terraza del restaurante Botánico, frente al jardín botánico de la universidad, un
coqueto oasis en el centro de la ciudad. Rodeado de tiendas de ropa y atractivos cafés, la clientela suele
estar formada por los alumnos de las facultades cercanas.
16.30 Catedral y Capilla Real
La catedral es una de las obras cumbres del Renacimiento español del siglo XVI. Posee uns presencia
imponente gracias a sus cinco naves y planta rectangular. En su interior, la capilla real alberga los restos
de los Reyes Católicos, un templo funerario para recuperar el sentido histórico además del artístico.
Abrumador.
18.00 La Huerta de San Vicente
La Huerta de San Vicente, ubicada en el parque García Lorca, fue la residencia de verano del poeta y
su familia. La finca fue un regalo que Ferderico García, padre del poeta, hizo a su familia en 1925. Desde
una de las habitaciones, con vistas a Sierra Nevada y a la Alhambra, Federico García Lorca escribió
obras como Romancero gitano y Bodas de sangre. La casa museo que se encuentra en su interior conserva
los muebles originales tal y como los conoció Lorca.
20.00 Baños árabes
Para repitir la experiencia purificadora de los baños Hamman. Con un ambiente relajado, perfumes
orientales y casi a la luz de las velas es posible añadir un masaje que transporta a un tiempo en el que los
baños árabes eran lugares de convivencia en la antigua Al Andalus. Entonces, la gente se reunía a diario
para disfrutar de la tertulia en estas piscinas a distintas temperaturas.
22.00 Terraza de Santo Domingo
En el barrio del Realejo, las terrazas proliferan como setas. La Plaza de Santo Domingo, de cierto aire
castellano y melancólico, acoge una de las mejores. La iglesia formaba parte del monasterio de Santa
Cruz la real, y su fachada con trampantojos desdibujados es uno de los mejores espectáculos estéticos
de este barrio en plena renovación.
23.00 Vinos y Flamenco
Caldos de todos los colores y olores. La Brujidera (Monjas del Carmen, nº 2) es la taberna perfecta para
sentirnos sibaritas sin dejarnos la cartera. Y después, acabar la ruta con sabor es sencillo. La dirección
es el Eshavira, un bar añejo difícil de ubicar entre la Gran Vía y la Calle de Elvira, pero conocido por los
lugareños. Combina dos ambientes con actuaciones de jazz y cante jondo.
