For the eighth year in a row, Santa Fe has made Travel and Leisure magazine's "World's Best Awards" list of top 10 favorite Continental United States and Canadian travel destinations. The city is located at an elevation of 7,000 feet above sea level at the base of the southern Rocky Mountains in north‐central New Mexico. Founded in 1610, Santa Fe is the second oldest city in the United States and is considered both the highest and oldest capital city in America. Santa Fe will commemorate its 400th Anniversary beginning in 2009. Santa Fe has long been a center for arts and culture. It is considered the third largest art market in the U.S. based on sales with over 240 art galleries and dealers in town. With a rich and colorful tri‐cultural heritage, traditional adobe architecture, ancient winding streets, and remarkable Native American and Hispanic arts, Santa Fe is known as the "City Different." Santa Fe enjoys a semi‐arid climate. Due to the 7,000 ft. elevation, summers are extremely mild with warm sunny days and cool breezy nights. Transportation Flying into Albuquerque and renting a car is by far the most popular way of traveling around New Mexico. However, it is not the only way to from the Albuquerque International Sunport to the Hilton Santa Fe Resort at Buffalo Thunder. Airport Express Route 350 and Route 50 will pick up outside of Baggage Claim in the Public Transport lanes and will take travelers to the Downtown Albuquerque Depot (Alvarado Station). A one‐way ticket on the Rail Runner currently costs $6.00 from Albuquerque to Santa Fe. The Airport Express (Route #350) Shuttle Bus will take passengers to and from the airport to the Santa Fe Rail Runner Depot at Guadalupe‐Montezuma Street. Driving Directions to the Hotel From the Albuquerque International Airport From Albuquerque: Exit the airport to I‐25 North and continue toward Santa Fe. Exit at the St. Francis Drive North. St. Francis Drive becomes Highway 84/285 and continue for approximately 9 miles. Exit #177 at Buffalo Thunder Road and turn right into the Resort. From Albuquerque (bypassing downtown Santa Fe): Take Interstate 25 North towards Santa Fe. From I‐25, exit right 599 Northbound Bypass. 599 Northbound Bypass to Highway 84/285 North towards Espanola/Taos. Continue Highway 84/285 for approximately 12 miles. Exit #177 at Buffalo Thunder Road and turn right into the Resort. From Santa Fe Take St. Francis Drive North. St. Francis becomes Highway 84/285 and continue for approximately 9 miles. Exit #177 at Buffalo Thunder Road and turn right into the Resort. Transportation in Santa Fe Municipal Airport Ground Transportation The Santa Fe Municipal Airport which offers daily flights to and from Santa Fe via Dallas ‐ Fort Worth (DFW) through American Eagle Airlines. The Roadrunner Shuttle The Roadrunner Shuttle Service provides ground transportation from the Santa Fe Municipal Airport to hotels and other Santa Fe locations. Events Outside of the Hotel CLOSING RECEPTION AT GOVERNOR’S MANSION RECEPCIÓN EN LA CASA DEL GOBERNADOR The closing event for this year’s Forum will be an informal reception at the home of New Mexico’s Governor and First Lady, Bill and Barbara Richardson. Transportation to the event will be provided and attendees should plan to meet the group at the charter bus exit of the hotel’s lobby. The shuttle will leave the hotel at 5:30 pm and return from the Governor’s mansion at the end of the event. Driving Directions to Governor’s Mansion Take 85‐285 south to Santa Fe. Approaching town, veer to left (which will take you past the National Cemetery. At the stop light (Paseo de Peralta), turn left and go to Bishop’s Lodge Road (3rd stop light – the pink Masonic Temple will be on the NW corner). Turn left. Go through the 1st stoplight (Fort Marcy Park will be on left) and continue approximately 1 ‐ 1.5 miles up the road. Mansion Drive will be on the left (there’s a blue “Keep Santa Fe Beautiful” sign on the right side of the road just before Mansion Drive). Turn left on Mansion Drive (you will see the Mansion up on the hill) and then take the first large driveway on the left (there is a big iron gate with red and yellow Zia signs which will be open). Drive up to the parking lot and come on in! If you get lost, call the Mansion at 505‐827‐7300 for further directions. The 38th Annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta October 3‐11, 2009 Coinciding with the Ninth Annual Binational Forum is the 38th Annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, NM. For nine days in October, the New Mexico skies are painted as hundreds of balloons lift off from Albuquerque's Balloon Fiesta Park. Whimsical special shapes and Balloon Glows create a magical landscape for spectators to wander. The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta will leave you awestruck and wanting more.
