This is a reminder of how we should live our lives 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week – putting God first in all that we do. Not only
when I am at Mass and parish activities, but when I am in the
world, at work or at school. Living gratefully and generously is a
lifestyle, it’s how I make all my decisions.
THIS WEEK, FR. DAN, FR. MIKE & FR. VICTOR will be in the Annual Archdiocesan
Convocation. They will be out Monday, May 9, Tuesday, May 10, Wednesday, May
11, and Thursday, May 12. In the place of weekday Masses, Communion Services
will be celebrated by Deacon Dan, Deacon Horr and Deacon Pedro. During these
days, our priests will have the opportunity to discuss mutual pastoral concerns,
participate in special presentations on aspects of their ministry, be given an update
on the affairs of the diocese and share in liturgies, meals and fellowship with their
confreres. The convocation provides all the priests time to get away from their parish
ministries and administration and build priestly fraternity by praying together,
celebrating Mass together, and socializing. This is also the time for learning with one
another through discussions and listening to various presentations from invited
speakers. There will be NO Confessions on Wednesday, May 11th.

DOMINGO 8 DE MAYO DEL 2016
LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Parishioners,
The Ascension is always, every year, a celebration, but
shouldn't we mourn it instead? Shouldn't we regret and be sad
that he is no longer among us? Doesn't it seem that he has
abandoned us? Not at all. In today's Preface (the prayer the
priest prays at the start of the Eucharistic prayer) the Church
tells us why: "Christ... has passed beyond our sight, not to
abandon us but to be our hope. "Christ is the beginning, the
head of the Church; where he has gone, we hope to follow." If
Jesus had not ascended into heaven, body and soul,
humanity and divinity, we would not be able to hope for
heaven ourselves. The ascension is the direct source of our
hope. It means that we are never alone.
Years ago, a Catholic missionary was preaching in the open
square of a village in North India. As he finished, a Muslim
gentleman approached him and said: "You must admit we
have one thing you have not, and it is better than anything you
have." The missionary smiled and said, "I should be pleased
to hear what it is." The Muslim went on, "You know, that when
we go to Mecca we find at least a coffin. But when you
Christians go to Jerusalem, your Mecca, you find nothing but
an empty grave." The Missionary replied, "Ah ha! But that's
just it, and it makes all the difference. Mohammad, the founder
of Islam, is dead, and he is in his coffin. But our Leader has
risen from the dead and returned to heaven."
As Christians, we don't just believe in a philosophy or a
theology. As Christians, we believe in a person, a Savior, a
God who is alive and who has brought our own human nature
into heaven, so that we can have a hope that is not just
wishful thinking, but a dream guaranteed to come true. We do
not have to wish upon a star; we pray to the One who made
the stars. In Israel, there is an ancient tradition that has
preserved a monument on the Mount of Olives. There, they
say, Christ left his footprints in the rocks as he ascended into
heaven. That's the point. Jesus has gone into heaven, not to
abandon us, but to be our hope: he has led the way; he has
left us the trail of his footprints so that we can follow him to
everlasting life.
May God Bless You…. Fr Dan

THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD
LA ASCENSION DE SENOR
CARTA DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO
Queridos Parroquianos,
¿No lamentamos y
Si Jesús no
a
garantizado a hacerse realidad.

No
ESCUELA CATOLICA SAN JERONIMO
EDUCANDO MENTE, CORAZON Y ESPIRITU

LAUGH LINES – A Kindergarten teacher was observing
her classroom of children while they were drawing. She would
occasionally walk around to see each child's work.
As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked
what the drawing was.
The girl replied, 'I'm drawing God.'
The teacher paused and said, 'But no one knows what God looks
like'. Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing, the
girl replied, 'They will in a minute'

2016-2017 REGISTRATION is now taking place. Early
enrollment is the best way to ensure your child has a place as
a St Jerome Student. “The education that we receive in a
Catholic school is invaluable. Many sacrifices are made so
that students can attend St. Jerome and even continue on in a
Catholic school after 8th. Grade graduation. These sacrifices
are made by parents who know and cherish the value of the
moral and spiritual education their children receive as well as
the quality presented by our teachers. "Education is not the

Pope Francis speaks of another type
of persecution: "polite persecution". This is the social
marginalization of Christians who dissent from the
directions in which secular society is moving. Polite
persecution has been in full display in recent weeks
here in the United States. (from a recent homily of
Pope Francis)
RESPECT LIFE:
HISTORY OF THE ASCENSION OF OUR LORD - The reality of Christ's
Ascension is so important that the creeds (the basic statements of belief) of
Christianity all affirm, in the words of the Apostles' Creed, that "He
ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead." The denial of
the Ascension is as grave a departure from Christian teaching as is denial of
Christ's Resurrection. Christ's bodily Ascension foreshadows our own
entrance into Heaven not simply as souls, after our death, but as glorified
bodies, after the resurrection of the dead at the Final Judgment. In
redeeming mankind, Christ not only offered salvation to our souls but began
the restoration of the material world itself to the glory that God intended
before Adam's fall. The Feast of the Ascension marks the beginning of the
first novena, or nine days of prayer. Before His Ascension, Christ promised
to send the Holy Spirit to His apostles. Their prayer for the coming of the
Holy Spirit, which began on Ascension Thursday, ended with the descent of
the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday, ten days later. The Ascension of Our
Lord, which occurred 40 days after Jesus Christ rose from the dead on
Easter, is the final act of our redemption that Christ began on Good Friday.
On this day, the risen Christ, in the sight of His apostles, ascended bodily
into Heaven (Luke 24:51; Mark 16:19; Acts 1:9-11).

MOTHER’S DAY- Lord Jesus, send
your gracious blessings on mothers
everywhere. Bless the mothers of new born
babies. Give them joy and excitement in
nurturing new life. May they always mirror
your love in the care and guidance they will
give. Bless the mothers of young children.
Give them understanding and guidance to instill true values in their
children. May they teach by their example and their words. Bless the
mothers of teenagers. Give them wisdom and courage to lead their
children to adulthood and mature Christian faith. Enlighten them to
know when to be gentle and when to be firm. Bless all the mothers,
Lord, help them as their children grow older and need them less, to
find joy, and peace and rest. Give them good health. Give them the
joy of seeing their families prosper. And bless them with the grace of
watching their families grow closer to God by living the message of
Your Gospel. We ask this Lord, in your name. AMEN.

seminary. Participants are invited to join the seminary community at prayer, in classes at the University of
Dallas, socials, and other scheduled events throughout the weekend. The college formation program not
only prepares students in philosophy and the liberal arts, but also brings to maturity their understanding
