The City Council of the City of Exeter, California, has put before
the voters a measure proposing to change the way the office of
the City Treasurer is filled. Currently the Exeter City Treasurer is
elected by the voters of Exeter. This measure proposes to fill
the position by appointment by the City Council.
El Concejo Municipal de la Ciudad de Exeter, California, ha
presentado a los votantes una medida en la que se propone
modificar el modo en el que se ocupa el cargo de Tesorero de la
Ciudad. Actualmente, el Tesorero de la Ciudad de Exeter es
elegido por los votantes de Exeter. Esta medida propone que el

Historically the position of City Treasurer has been an elected
position and the person holding the office has been required to
be a resident and elector in the city.

In recent years no candidates have come forward to run for this
office, resulting in a vacancy in the position which has been filled
by appointment by the City Council.
There has been an ever increasing need for technical training
and skills to perform the duties of City Treasurer, as
governmental accounting standards have become more complex
and time consuming, and large projects involving federal, state
and local grant monies have required specialized record-keeping
responsibilities. These technical requirements and increased
time requirements of the position have made it increasingly
difficult to find candidates qualified, interested and willing to run
for the office of City Treasurer.

En los últimos años, ningún candidato se ha postulado para
ocupar este cargo, y en consecuencia el cargo vacante es
ocupado por designación del Concejo Municipal.
Hay una creciente necesidad de habilidades y capacitación
técnica para desempeñar las tareas de Tesorero de la Ciudad,
ya que las normas gubernamentales de contabilidad se han
vuelto más complejas y llevan más tiempo, y los grandes
proyectos que implican subsidios federales, estatales y locales
exigen responsabilidades especializadas de registro de datos.
Estos requerimientos técnicos y la mayor demanda de tiempo

calificados, interesados y dispuestos a postularse para el cargo
