BARNS FILLED WITH RICHES
The mortgage is paid off. So are the loans
that were taken out for college tuition and children’s weddings. The second home that was
once a far-off dream is now so close that it
seems safe to dig out the real estate magazines. And then . . . a daughter or son can no longer take
care of a child. It’s time to start over, this time as grandparents in the parents’ role. Thousands of older adults
face this situation today, becoming temporary or permanent guardians of their grandchildren.
Vanity of vanities. The years of toil with sights set on
a great reward now belong to someone else: food, clothing, braces, summer camps, and school tuition.
But, as one grandmother said of her 13-year-old
granddaughter, Megan, “It has all been worth it. She
brings such joy. What would I do without her?”
And so the barns filled with “riches” are again taken
down and new and true riches are discovered. Once
again a new self is found in Christ, and the storehouse is
filled with life that is truly pleasing to God.

Ya pagamos la hipoteca. Y también los préstamos que se tomaron para el pago de la universidad y las bodas de los hijos. La segunda
casa, que una vez fue un sueño lejano está
ahora tan cerca que sería recomendable empezar a revisar las revistas de bienes raíces. Y en ese
momento. . . un hijo o una hija no puede atender a su

esta vez como abuelos en el rol de padres. Miles de
adultos mayores se enfrentan hoy a esa situación, y se
convierten en tutores temporales o permanentes de sus
nietos.
Vanidad de vanidades. Los años de trabajo arduo
con miras a una gran jubilación hoy pertenecen a alguien
más: comida, ropa, ortodoncia, campamentos, escolaridades.
Pero, como dijo una abuela de su nieta de 13 años,
“Todo ha valido la pena. Ella me da una enorme alegría. ¿Qué haría yo sin ella?” Y así el granero lleno de
“bienes” se vacía y descubrimos nuevas y verdaderas
riquezas. Otra vez encontramos nueva vida en Cristo, y
el almacén se llena de la vida que realmente agrada a

Ya se inició la Construcción
de la Plaza del Santuario Mariano
Marian Shrine Plaza Construction has Begun
Construction of our Marian Shrine Plaza is well underway
(see the colored design in the vestibule). We still have many
items available for sponsoring. There are 3 sections of the
back wall at $2,000 each, flower bed seats at $1,000 each,
as well as numerous pavers on the floor of the plaza (8x8
square pavers to be placed on the main pathway to the
shrine at $250; 8x8 square pavers to be placed at the foot of
the flower bed seating area at $200 each; and 4x8 rectangular pavers to be placed throughout the plaza at $100). All of
these items will have the name in whose honor/memory the
item has been donated etched into them. To sponsor an
item, contact Mary Ann Gieglow at our Parish Office.

muchos banquetas del piso de la plaza (banquetas cuadradas
de 8x8 que se colocarán en la entrada principal del santuario a

macetero en el área de asientos, a $200 c/u; y banquetas rectangulares de 4x8 que se colocarán en toda la plaza, a $100 c/

Confirmation I and High School Youth Group: For those
students who have been preparing for Confirmation during
the last school year, Confirmation is scheduled for Tuesday,
November 26th at 6:30 PM. Rehearsal will be held the evening before at 6:30 PM, Monday, November 25th
Registration for 7th & 8th Religious Formation as preparation for HS Confirmation will be held next weekend on August 10th and 11th after Masses. High School Confirmation
(for 2014) and Youth Group registration, will also be held
next weekend after all Masses. The first Confirmation and
Youth Group meeting will be on Wednesday, August 21st at
7:00 PM in Dougherty Hall. Young people looking for service
opportunities, contact Lisa at Lastrouski@stcyril. com or 7951633 ext 107.
Confirmación I y Grupo Juvenil de High School: para aquellos
estudiantes que se han venido preparando para su Confirmación durante el pasado ciclo escolar, la Confirmación está programada para el martes 26 de noviembre a las 6:30 PM. El
ensayo se efectuará la noche anterior a las 6:30 PM, el lunes
25 de noviembre.
La inscripción para la Formación Religiosa de 7° y 8° para
la preparación de la Confirmación de HS, se llevará a cabo el
próximo fin de semana después de las Misas de agosto 10 y
11. La Confirmación de High School (para el 2014), y la inscripción para el Grupo Juvenil también se llevará a cabo después de las Misas del próximo fin de semana. La primera reunión de la Confirmación y el Grupo Juvenil del otoño, será el
miércoles 21 de agosto a las 7:00 PM en el salón Dougherty.
Our parish’s school begins this Thursday!
A Note from our Principal, Dr. Ann Zeches
Our school year at St. Cyril begins on Thursday of
this week. School packets are available in the back of
the church this weekend. These packets include important beginning of the school year information
along with forms to be returned the first day of
school. If something prevents you from getting to
Mass, packets will be available starting Monday, August 5th in the school office. The school office will
open at 8:00 AM that day and each day after until
the first day of school.
Catholic Tuition Support Organization
As the new school year begins, many of our students’ families are thankful for the Catholic Tuition
Support Organization for the financial assistance
available to them making it possible for them to
afford a Catholic education.
This year, CTSO was successful in raising $6.1 million dollars
in tax credit funds from individuals. A total of $283,644.73
comes from parishioners of St. Cyril of Alexandria Parish. In
addition to these funds directed to us via CTSO, various corporations also direct tax credit monies to the CTSO. Our
school receives monies from these credits also. All of what
we receive goes toward Financial Aide for families wishing to
send their children to our school, but who would not be able
to do so with this help. Thank you to those parishioners and
corporations who have directed their tax credits to our
school!
If you haven’t used this excellent avenue for keeping Catholic
Schools as an option for education of our children, you can
do so by signing up for a regular contribution either by a recurring charge to a credit card or Electronic Funds Transfer
(EFT). This is a 3rd option available. Taxpayers may claim all
contributions made January 1 through December 31 as a
Charitable Donation and qualify for a dollar-for-dollar tax
credit (up to $2,062 for a couple filing jointly and $1,031 for
a person filing single) up until April 15. You will receive a receipt in January for the previous year and you can call anytime to request one to be sent to you. Two other options are
by making a donation in full by December 31st of each year –
which is paid back to you at tax time (and which can also be
submitted as a Federal Tax Deduction for charitable contributions), or by making a donation in full before the April 15 th
Tax Day (however, this is not eligible for the Federal Tax Deduction until the following year).

Health Fair for Sunday, September 29th from 9:00 AM
until 1:00 PM. Parishioners are invited to stop by for
screenings and additional information.

de Apoyo a las Colegiaturas
Al iniciar el nuevo ciclo escolar, muchas de las familias de nuestros alumnos están agradecidas de la
Organización Católica de Apoyo a las Colegiaturas
[CTSO] por su asistencia financiera que les permite
la educación católica para sus hijos.
Este año, CTSO obtuvo con éxito $6.1 millones de dólares en
fondos del crédito de impuestos de las personas. De los parroquianos de la Parroquia de San Cirilo, CTSO recibió un total
de $283,644.73. Además de estos fondos que obtuvimos de
CTSO, algunas empresas también dirigieron fondos de sus
impuestos a CTSO y nuestra escuela también recibió fondos
de esos créditos. Todo lo que recibimos pasa a ser Asistencia

Si usted aún no ha usado este excelente medio para conservar
las Escuelas Católicas como una opción para la educación de

such as: Spiritual Formation, Scripture, Principles of Theology, Liturgy and Sacraments, Christian Morality, and Methodology. This course also strives to answer questions that

Adult Confirmation Classes this Fall
This year, Bishop Kicanas is scheduled to celebrate Confirmation in our parish on Tuesday, November 26th. In
preparation for this, we will be offering a preparation series in English for adult Catholics (18 years or older) who
were baptized and have received First Communion but
have not been confirmed. If you haven’t been confirmed,
and would like to celebrate this sacrament, please let Fr.
Edgar know of your interest (795-1633, Ext. 111 or [email protected]). Details will be available in a few weeks.
Sacrament Preparations for Adults
This year our parish will offer a series of classes for Spanish
speaking adults (18 years or older) who have been baptized as
Catholics but have not celebrated one or more of the following
sacraments: First Penance, Confirmation and First Communion.
The preparation series will begin this fall and run through
the spring of 2013
In conjunction with this series, we will also be offering
Spanish speaking couples who are married civilly but not in the
Church, the opportunity to prepare to celebrate the Sacrament
of Matrimony. If one or both of the married couple needs to
celebrate one of the above sacraments in preparation for having their marriage blessed, they should plan on participating in
the above series. More information about the series and how to
register will be in future bulletins, or you can call Deacon Mario
Aguirre at the Parish.

Este año, el Obispo Kicanas celebrará la Confirmación
en nuestra parroquia el miércoles, 28 de noviembre.
Antes de esto, ofreceremos una serie de preparación
en Inglés para adultos católicos (18 años o mayores)
que fueron bautizados y recibieron Primera Comunión
pero no han sido confirmados. Si usted no está confirmado, y desea celebrar este sacramento, díganselo

Preparación Sacramental para Adultos
Este año nuestra parroquia ofrecerá una serie de clases
para adultos hispanoparlantes (de 18 en adelante) quienes
han sido bautizados como católicos, pero les falta uno o
más de los siguientes sacramentos: primera reconciliación;
comfirmación; primera comunión. Las clases comenzarán
este octoño y terminarán a fines de la primavera de
2014.
Junto con esta serie de clases ofreceremos también, a parejas hispanoparlantes quienes están casados por lo civil mas
no por la iglesia, la oportunidad para preparar para celebrar
el sacramento de matrimonio. Si a uno o a ambos de la
pareja les falta el celebrar uno de los sacramentos mencionados arriba, deben hacer planes de asistir las clases de
preparación sacramental, para que se pueda bendecir el

We are in need of Ushers (greeters and collection takers), Lectors (persons who proclaim the scripture
readings), Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
and Altar Servers at all of our weekend Masses. We
try to assign ministers to the Mass of their choice so
as to make serving in these Liturgical Ministries an
easy thing to do within one’s schedule. To volunteer, please
contact Charmaine Piane-Dame (our Director of Liturgy and
Music) at the Parish Office - 795-1633, xt 110.

Estamos necesitando acomodadores (quienes saludan y
pasan la colecta), Lectores (personas que proclaman las
lecturas de las escrituras), Sacristanes (personas que
preparan todo para la Misa), Ministros Extraordinarios de
la Sagrada Comunión y Asistentes en el Altar, para todas
las Misas del fin de semana. Por favor consideren el servir en uno de estos ministerios en la Misa a la que ustedes
