VALENCIA EN VERANO ES… MEDITERRÁNEA
Valencia en verano huele a Mediterráneo, a frescas terrazas, a deliciosos sabores
procedentes de renombrados fogones, a cultura, a gastronomía, a fiestas y a agenda de ocio
los siete días de la semana.
Con la brisa del borde del mar, en refrescantes patios interiores, en parajes naturales o
rodeadas de jardines, así se sirven las terrazas del verano valenciano. Al caer la noche,
qué mejor que una ruta nocturna por las azoteas más atractivas y para los amantes de la
diurnización del ocio, qué mejor que degustar el “brunch” en algunos de los locales más
“cool” de Valencia.
Entre plato y plato, la ciudad propone disfrutar de los conciertos, castillos de fuegos
artificiales o la Batalla de Flores de la Feria de Julio. Sin olvidar paseos tan agradables como
los que ofrece la huerta o el casco histórico, actividades para todas las edades como las del

Embedded between the dunes of the El Saler Natural
Park is the Arrocería Duna, whose wooden terrace unfolds
along the El Saler beach. This establishment is famous for its
rice, and every dish on the menu is a sure hit. A little north of
this park lies the El Saler Parador hotel with its unparalleled

eleccionado por la BBC británica como
uno de los mercados más bellos del mundo, el Mercado
Central es la catedral de la gastronomía valenciana y
mediterránea para todo aquel amante de la cocina que se
precie de buscar el producto más fresco y de mayor calidad.
Más de 8.000 metros cuadrados aglutinan la actividad de 400
boutiques y 1.500 vendedores, fue el primer mercado europeo
en ofrecer compra online, desde el 2 de octubre de 1996 que
es posible hacerlo.
De arquitectura modernista y con una distribución interior de
tipo racionalista, fue concebido para satisfacer las necesidades
alimenticias de los valencianos. Hoy no sólo es un mercado en
el que abastecerse de víveres, sino símbolo de la relevancia
que la cocina tiene para los ciudadanos, símbolo de la riqueza
y frescura de la huerta, las granjas y la pesca en Valencia. Es
también espacio de encuentro para actos y eventos como
exposiciones o espectáculos gastronómicos dirigidos a los
usuarios del mercado.
Memoria viva del pasado, su reputación lo ha consolidado
en el presente y lo ha apuntalado para su futuro. Otra suerte
tuvo el Mercado de Colón, que tras su esplendorosa
restauración fue convertido en espacio de ocio y se llenó
de restaurantes, bares, cafeterías e incluso una escuela
de cocina, la de Ricard Camarena. Hoy perviven en él
algunos de los legendarios comercios que abastecían a los
vecinos de la zona ofreciendo productos gourmet. Escuchar
un concierto o simplemente reunirse con amigos bajo el bello
armazón de hierro de su esqueleto, son sólo algunos de los
placeres que ofrece este singular espacio.
De arquitectura modernista, ubicado en la elegante zona
del Ensanche valenciano y rodeado de tiendas, el es punto
de encuentro y de referencia de la gastronomía valenciana.
También dentro del Ensanche, en la popular y actualmente
más bohemia zona de Ruzafa, se ubica el mercado de lleva su
mismo nombre y aunque su tamaño engaña, cuenta con casi
5.000 metros cuadrados de superficie y 160 puestos de venta.
El Mercat de Russafa es uno de los más activos, recibió
recientemente la insignia Bravo! de Tripadvisor y ha
sido sede de uno de los primeros Street Food Festivals
de la ciudad. Con actividades y propuestas simpáticas e
interesantes atrae a los vecinos de la zona y a curiosos de otras
partes. De colorida arquitectura, tiene fama de albergar algunos
de los mejores puestos de pescado, quesos y embutidos.
Singular encanto tiene el Mercado de Mosén Sorell, uno
de los más pequeños, conformado con una estructura
de acero lacada en blanco y panelada en cristal, lo
que integra la actividad del mercado en la plaza donde
se ubica, permite entrada de luz natural al interior y
la actividad de los bares y restaurantes que le rodean se
confunde con la de las tiendas del mercado, generando una
especial simbiosis. Los productos colocados con esmero, la
atención personalizada al cliente y la ubicación en una animada
zona de la tarde y la noche valenciana, hacen de este mercado
uno de los más atractivos de Valencia. Abierto las tardes de
los jueves y los viernes, permite hacer la compra y terminar
tomando una tapa o un vino en uno de los bares que lo rodean.

Chosen by the BBC as one of the most beautiful markets in the world, the
Central Market is the cathedral of Valencian and Mediterranean cuisine for
all those foodies looking to find the freshest and highest quality produce. Over 8,000
square meters bring together 400 boutiques and 1,500 vendors and it was the
first European market to offer online shopping, which has been possible since 2nd
October 1996.
With its Modernist architecture and rationalist style interior layout, it was designed
to meet the nutritional needs of Valencia’s residents. Today it is not only a market to
stock up on groceries, but is also a symbol of the importance that cooking has is
for the city’s residents, a symbol of the richness and freshness of the Huerta green
belt, the farms and fisheries in Valencia and a meeting space for events such as
gastronomic exhibitions or shows for market goers.
As a living memory of the past, the market has consolidated its reputation in the
present and has underpinned it for the future. The Mercado de Colón enjoyed
a different fate, and after its magnificent restoration it was converted into
recreational space filled with restaurants, bars, cafes and even a cooking
school, run by Ricard Camarena. Some of the legendary shops that once catered
to the locals live on today in the market, now offering gourmet products. Listening to
a concert or just meeting up with friends under the beautiful iron structural frame are
just some of the pleasures offered by this unique space.
With its Modernist architecture and located in the elegant Eixample area of Valencia
and surrounded by shops, it is a meeting point and a reference for Valencian cuisine.
Also in the Eixample, in the popular and now bohemian area of Ruzafa, is the Ruzafa
Market and though its size is deceptive, it covers nearly 5,000 square meters and has
160 stalls.
The market, known locally as El Mercat de Russafa, is one of the most active
in the city, and was recently awarded the Bravo! badge by Tripadvisor and
hosted one of the first Street Food Festivals in the city. Through its activities
and proposals, it attracts residents from within the neighbourhood and curious
visitors from elsewhere. With its colourful architecture, it is famous for some of the
best fish, cheese and sausage stalls in the city.
The Mosen Sorell Market has unique charm, is one of the smallest in the city,
and has a white steel structure with panelled glass, which brings the market
activity in to the Plalza where it is located, allowing the natural light into the
inside. The activity in the bars and restaurants surrounding it mingles in with the
market stores, creating a special symbiosis. Carefully placed products, personalized
customer service and its location in a lively evening area and the Valencian night all
make this market one of the most attractive in the city. Open on Thursday and Friday
evenings, you can go shopping and enjoy a glass of wine and some tapas in the bars
that surround it.

Despertarse el fin de semana un poquito más tarde de lo habitual y
disfrutar de las delicias de un buen desayuno con tintes de comida, es
lo que hoy llamamos “Brunch” y que tan de moda pusieron las chicas
de una conocida serie Norteamericana. Pues bien, esta modalidad de
almuerzo-comida ha llegado también a Valencia y pisa con fuerza.
De la playa al centro, la ciudad rebosa de lugares donde saborear
este delicioso momento mañanero. Desde el corazón de la ciudad el
bar Molto ofrece un delicioso brunch en el que combinar ensaladas,
zumos o degustar el “mejor bocadillo del mundo”.
Quintana es otra de las apuestas seguras, aunque aquí hay que ser
mínimo seis personas y reservar con antelación para disfrutar de su
brunch. Otra opción es ir a comer pronto, pues allí ofrecen comidas a
partir de las 12.30 horas.

Para los golosos, la Horchatería Daniel y Suc de Lluna tienen
una extensa carta de dulces valencianos y su producto estrella, la
horchata. También Micub ofrece almuerzos en versión salado. Todos
ellos ubicados en el modernista Mercado de Colón, sólo el entorno
merece la plena. Y otro lugar situado en un entorno privilegiado es Le
Marquís, perteneciente al Hotel Inglés, su terraza se despliega frente
a la portada barroca del Museo Nacional de Cerámica y cuenta con un
delicioso brunch en su carta.
Y si el deseo es sentarse a disfrutar de un “almuerzo-comida” en el
típico patio interior rodeados de plantas y amenizados con música
relajante, el patio del Hospes Palau de la Mar es la apuesta. Un
brunch algo diferente es el que ofrece The Westin Valencia, al que
llama “sprunch” y en el que incluye una sesión de spa en su Caroli
Health Club unido a un almuerzo en el Restaurante Jardí del Hotel.

delights of a good breakfast with hints of lunch it is what Valencians
have come to know as “Brunch”, an event made so fashionable by
the girls in a famous North American series. Brunch has arrived with a
bang in Valencia.
From the beach to the city centre, the city is full of places to savour
this delicious morning moment. In the heart of the city, Molto offers a
delicious brunch where you can combine salads, juices and enjoy the
“best bocadillo sandwich in the world”.
At the Central Bar in the Central Market, some of the best tapas in
town are made; their Russian salad, cod croquettes and delicious
grilled crayfish all delight those feeling peckish in the morning.

Quintana is another safe bet, but here you need to be in a group of at
least six people and book early to enjoy their brunch. Another option is
to have an early lunch, as they begin to offer meals from 12.30.
For those with a sweet tooth, Horchatería Daniel and Suc de Lluna
have an extensive menu of Valencian sweets together with its flagship
product - horchata. As well Micub offers delicious brunches. Located
in the modernist Mercado de Colón, its surroundings alone are
worth a visit. Another place situated in a privileged environment is Le
Marquis, which belongs to the Hotel Inglés. Its terrace unfolds before
the baroque façade of the National Ceramics Museum and it has a
delicious brunch on the menu.
If what you want to do is to sit down and enjoy brunch in a typical patio
surrounded by plants and with relaxing music, the courtyard at the
Hospes Palau de la Mar is the place. A somewhat different brunch is
offered by The Westin Valencia, which it calls “sprunch” and which
includes a spa session at the Caroli Health Club together with lunch at
the Restaurante Jardí in the Hotel.

La Batalla de Flores es el acto más colorido y
singular de la Feria de Julio con el que se pone
punto y final al calendario de eventos lúdicos de la feria
veraniega. Con 124 años de antigüedad, es la batalla
más antigua de España. Carrozas, calesas y grupas
engalanadas con pétalos y flores se sumergen en un
aromático y dulce linchamiento de flores que tiñe de
naranja y amarillo el elegante Paseo de la Alameda.
Una batalla de olor y color que no debes perderte el
próximo 26 de julio a las 20.00 horas.
The Flower Battle is the most colourful and unique
event in the July Fair which brings to a close the
calendar of entertainment in this summer fair. At 124
years old, it is the oldest battle in Spain. Carriages and
floats adorned with petals and flowers are immersed
in an aromatic and sweet bath of flowers that dyes the
elegant Paseo de la Alameda in orange and yellow. A
battle of smell and colour not to be missed on 26 July
at 8.00 pm.

Playa de Las Arenas y la Malvarrosa
Accesibles en transporte público y a escasos dos kilómetros del
centro de la ciudad, son largas playas de arena fina, flanqueadas
de los más sabrosos chiringuitos, bares y restaurantes, en ellas
es posible disfrutar de actividades náuticas y acuáticas, como de
abandonarse a la lectura con algunos de los títulos de la “bibliomar”.
Con mucha historia y tradición, sucumbir a las playas urbanas de
Valencia, es uno de los mejores planes del verano.
Accessible by public transport and just two kilometers from the city
centre, these long sandy beaches is flanked by the tastiest snack
bars, bars and restaurants, where you can enjoy sailing and other
water activities, as well as getting lost in a book from the “bibliomar”
librabry. Steeped in history and tradition, succumbing to the urban
beaches of Valencia is one of the summer’s best things to do.
La huerta · The Huerta green belt
Horchata
The northern area of the city is the best ambassador of the
Valencian huerta.. Walking the paths that cross the fields sown
with tigernuts and other vegetables transports us to the world of
agriculture and its customs.
Horchata is the quintessential drink of Valencia. Made from tiger
nuts, water and sugar, you can try it out in traditional cafés around
the Plaza de la Reina or in modern ones in the Mercado de Colon.
La zona norte de la ciudad es la mejor embajadora de la huerta
valenciana. Un recorrido por los caminos de atraviesan los
campos de chufa y otros vegetales, nos transporta al universo de
la agricultura y sus costumbres.
La horchata es el refresco por excelencia de Valencia. Hecho a
base de chufa, agua y azúcar, es posible tomarlo en tradicionales
establecimientos en torno a la Plaza de la Reina o en los más
modernos del Mercado de Colón.

Playa de El Saler
En pleno parque natural de El Saler, sus dunas y el bosque
mediterráneo que la rodean la hacen más exótica y salvaje de lo
que es, si cabe.

Bioparc
Lleva de expedición a África a tus hijos y/o sobrinos sin salir de la
ciudad para hacerles descubrir cómo viven los animales en la selva
o en la sabana africana. Los leones, las cebras, lo ñus, las jirafas,
los elefantes, la pantera o los antílopes, son solo algunos de los
3.300 animales que encontrarás en este parque africano.

La Albufera
Es sin duda el paraje natural de la ciudad por excelencia, en él
es posible un apacible paseo en barca desde el que observar
los movimientos de las múltiples especies de aves, visitar la
típica barraca valenciana y degustar algunos de los mejores
arroces en El Palmar.

where you can go on a gentle boat ride and watch numerous
species of birds, visit a typical Valencian barraca farmhouse
and enjoy some of the best rice dishes in El Palmar.

Ser entrenador por un día, dar de comer a los pingüinos,
dormir con los tiburones, adentrarte en los mares tropicales
o descubrir la vida de la Antártida, son sólo algunas de las

Comenzó a tocar la guitarra a los 7 años cuando sus padres
le regalaron una porque era muy inquieto, a los 17 decidió
dedicarse profesionalmente a la música y hoy es uno de los
jazzistas más reputados del panorama internacional. Ximo
Tèbar en Valencia se siente en casa, siente calor, color y
armonía. Cree que Valencia es ciudad de la música no sólo en
España, sino también en el ámbito internacional, “pues aquí
se vive la música cada día, forma parte de nuestra tradición,
nuestra cultura y nuestras costumbres”. Él cree que un
visitante no puede dejar de tomar una buena paella en la playa
o en El Palmar, visitar el casco antiguo, la Albufera, escuchar
un concierto de nuestras bandas de música, visitar el Museo
Lladró, así como el IVAM y el San Pío V. Destaca de Valencia
la luz y el clima, para pasear prefiere hacerlo por el barrio del
Carmen, la Calle Colón, la zona del Mercado de Colón y el
Río. Lo que más le gusta hacer en Valencia es pasear, comer y
visitar museos. Considera que la primavera, marzo y Fallas son
los mejores momentos para visitar Valencia.
Tebar began playing guitar at the age of 7 when his parents
gave him one to channel his restless nature, at 17 he decided
to take up music professionally and today he is one of the most
renowned jazz musicians on the international scene. In Valencia
Ximo Tebar feels at home, and also feels the warmth, the colour
and harmony. He believes that Valencia is a city of music, not
only in Spain but also internationally, “because we live music
here every day, it is part of our tradition and our culture.” He
believes that a visitor should not miss the opportunity to enjoy a
good paella on the beach or in El Palmar, visit the old town and
the Albufera, listen to a concert by one of the city’s bands, and
visit the Lladró, IVAM and San Pío V museums. His highlights in
Valencia are its light and climate, his preferred place to go for a
stroll is the neighbourhood of El Carmen, Calle Colon, the area
around the Mercado de Colon and the river. What he most likes
to do in Valencia is to go for walks, eat out and visit museums.
He thinks that spring, March and Las Fallas are the best times
to visit Valencia.
