Faith’s Foundation
I could not help noticing the clarity with which Paul speaks to the people of Corinth. This letter was going
to be a difficult one for him. Sometimes in the Church we try to deal with a difficult situation by means of lawssometimes in our own affairs we deal with difficult situations on our own mental and spiritual power.
Paul did none of these: rather he took Jesus to his difficult situation, it was in the light of the Cross of Jesus
and the love of Christ that he brought his problems. Divisions had arisen in the Church.
1. There were those who belonged to Paul, no doubt mainly a Gentile Party.
2. There were those who belonged to Apollos, a Jew from Alexandria intelligent and versed in the Scripture.
3. There was Cephas, a Jewish high priest, a legalist who exalted the Jewish law.
Bringing the message Home
This message of St. Paul to the Corinthians reaches out of history and taps us on the shoulder.
We sometimes forget there is one Jesus. There is not a liberal Jesus, a conservative Jesus, a progressive Jesus,
a charismatic Jesus nor any other kind of Jesus, except the Real Jesus-the same yesterday, today,
tomorrow-The Foundation of Faith.
God bless,
Fr. Carlo DiNatale Tarasi

PASTOR´S MESSAGE
Below are two communications from the Diocese of Palm Beach concerning the importance of Catholic Education in
our church life. I present them for your attention so that we might all understand how critical Catholic Education is in
Catholic life and in our own parish life. The faith formation that goes on in our Catholic School and in our Religious
Education program is of critical importance as Catholic families together with our church efforts, pass on our Catholic
faith to our children. Thank you for your attention to this two following communications.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS CELEBRATED THIS WEEK
National Catholic Schools Week held
January 26 to February 1, 2014
Catholic Schools Week began in 1974, this year the annual
event marks its 40th anniversary of celebrating Catholic
education in the United States. Schools typically observe
National Catholic Schools Week with Masses, open houses,
and other activities for students, families, parishioners and
the community at large.
The theme for this year's National Catholic Schools Week is
"Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and
Service." The theme encompasses several concepts that are
at the heart of a Catholic education. First, schools are communities
- small families in their own right, but also members of the larger community of home, church, city and nation.
Faith, knowledge and service are three measures by which any Catholic school can and should be judged.
The new logo features a swirl of colors interacting around a cross, which is at the center of all Catholic education.
The vibrancy of the colors and the movement and shadows in the logo portray the inner-connectivity and
community life that are present in our Catholic schools.
In honor of this special week, Gary Gelo, Superintendent of Diocesan Schools, issued the following special message
to parishioners:
Dear Parishioners,
Last weekend our parishes conducted a second collection on behalf of Catholic Schools. "Catholic Schools:
Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service" is this year's national theme. Our Catholic schools have more than
6,000 students enrolled across the Diocese of Palm Beach. Our students are instructed in the faith on a daily basis,
have exceptional academic programs and serve our communities in many ways! Our diocese is blessed to have 19
wonderful, faith-filled schools, including two preschool centers and three high schools.
Your generous gift in the second collection will assist our schools as they continue to help young people grow
in their faith, excel academically and serve humbly. Last year each school received over $7,500 thanks to your
generosity!
Thank you for your support,
Gary Gelo

As you all know, implementation of Our Journey Forward Strategic Plan has
gradually started. This implementation of our Plan will require the collaboration
of many parishioners with the Seven Goal Champion Teams. In this bulletin you

that points-out a pertinence to one of St. Joan of Arc’s Goals:
GROW IN LOVE
SPREAD THE GOSPEL

TAIZE PRAYER SERVICE
THIS TUESDAY!
ALL ARE INVITED!
On TUESDAY, JANUARY 28, 2014 AT 7:30PM
we will have here at St. Joan a Taize Prayer Service in the Chapel.
Taize is a participatory service designed to bring into being a contemplative state through song,
prayer, and silence. One of the most essential elements of worship is singing. The short songs
used here are repeated over and over in order to produce that meditative state that will hopefully
allow us an easier conduit to listening to God.
We extend an open invitation to join us for a beautiful meditative evening in prayer, song,
and silence. You will be so glad you did!

FROM THE MARRIAGE MINISTRY DIRECTOR
MARRIAGE CEREMONY
On Saturday, January 18, 2014, I had the joy of being present at the Celebration of Dominique Howard and Aaron DeWitt’s matrimony
at our church. Dominique’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Howard have been St. Joan of Arc parishioners for many years. Dominique,
Danielle and Travis are triplets and along with their brother Kevin attended and graduated from St. Joan of Arc Catholic School. During
their studies at St. Joan, they were active participants in the Boys and Girls Scouts, they were Altar Servers at our church and members
of our Youth Group. The newlyweds did all of their marriage preparation at our parish and it was very special to see how one of our
students continued the journey of parish life at St. Joan of Arc with a beautiful celebration of the Sacrament of Matrimony. We are so
proud and rejoice in Dominique’s and Aaron’s happiness. May God bless them with many years of Love, Health, Joy and Faith.

"MARY'S FIAT TO GOD
AND OUR RESPONSE!"
Calling the attention of all our ladies parishioners. As in previous years,
the Columbiettes are once again sponsoring a day long Annual Retreat
this coming February 22, at 9:00am at the Sports Arena with this
year's theme: "Mary's FIAT To God And Our Response!"
This is indeed a timely call to self-evaluate our response to God as we try
to live our lives 24/7 in accordance with His Divine Will. We can learn so
much from our Blessed Mother at The Annunciation. Her “YES” to God
changed the course of history. But as Jesus himself stated, "The spirit is
willing but the flesh is weak," hence the need to reinvigorate our
commitment as His agents of change in our homes, in our workplaces,
and in our society.
Come, rest, learn and experience how to make our response to God's
call aligned with Mary's FIAT. Please pass on the invitation to others.
Our Blessed Mother is waiting for you. See you then. God bless you!

SJA NEEDS USHERS
Our parish is in need of additional USHERS hence we are calling all
parishioners wishing to do a ministry of love for God and for our fellow
parishioners. Our Ministry is composed of more than 35 members; men,
women and youth, who do simple yet important tasks like serving as
greeters and usherettes to other parishioners
and guests, making them feel welcome, being
the front-line of our parish.
Another important responsibility is collecting
properly the offerings, making sure that
everyone has an opportunity to give their love
offering and assisting during Communion so as
to maintain orderliness at all times. Finally,
we distribute the Bulletins after Mass to ensure
that parishioners receive a copy thus making them aware of the various
activities within the week. And as we welcome them gladly, we likewise
wish them God’s abundant blessings on their way home.
If you are interested, please do not hesitate to join and enjoy a
great Ministry. Truly, it is enriching and rewarding as we have personally
experienced it through the years of service.
Hope you join us and may God bless you and your loved ones!

The St. Joan of Arc Knights of Columbus were very successful in this
year’s food drive. Not only did they collect much needed food for
the St. Joan food pantry but they also presented a check to our
Care Ministry for $6,871.00. They collected these funds from our
very generous parishioners who keep our food pantry and crisis center
stocked and funded to help those less fortunate in our community!
So we would like to extend a big “THANK YOU” to the Knights and
our parishioners for all that they do!

MISA EN ESPAÑOL TODOS LOS SABADOS A LAS 6:30pm.
exigencias de la caridad, que va más allá;
el bien que tenemos oportunidad de realizar, y hacerlo; el mal que podría derivar
de una determinada actuación, y evitarlo;
