To abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays
of Lent means to not eat meat on those days. It does not
intend the omission of eggs or dairy products.
Marin Catholic Presents “Havana Nights”
Fashion Show & Auction March 12, 2016
The required fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday involves eating only one full meal on those days. One or two
smaller meals may be taken on those days, but may not total
one full meal. The required fast does not allow eating anything between meals.
KENTFIELD, CA – The Marin Catholic Parents Association will present “Havana Nights,” the school’s annual
fashion show and fundraising auction on Saturday, March
12, 2016 at the Marin Civic Center Exhibit Hall in San
Rafael.
"All Catholics who have completed their fourteenth year are
bound by the law of abstinence; all adults are bound by the
law of fast up to the beginning of their sixtieth year.
Two shows will be presented. The luncheon event
begins at 10:00 a.m. with a boutique of local vendors,
lunch catered by Il Fornaio and the fashion show . The
evening event starts at 5:00 pm, with cocktails, silent and
live auctions, sit-down dinner by Il Fornaio, fashion show
and dancing. Tickets for the luncheon are $75.00, dinner
show tickets are $165.00.
Nevertheless, pastors and parents are to see to it that minors
who are not bound by the law of fast and abstinence are educated in an authentic sense of penance."

This year’s Novena will be conducted by

The families expressed hear elt gra tude and joy as they received their gi s. Witnessing their thankfulness brought forth
the true love and purpose of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
CHARACTER
A simple judge of my character is how I treat a person who can do absolutely nothing for me.
Helping Hands is most grateful for your overwhelming generosity. We could not do this without each of you. You brought

Mark your calendars for Our Lady of Loretto’s 12th Annual
Youth Ministry Golf Tournament to be held Thursday, June
23rd, at Indian Valley Golf Club. We hope each and every
parishioner will support this very important fund raiser by being a sponsor, playing a round of golf, purchasing a raffle ticket, and/or attending the delicious dinner in the church hall following the tournament. With your generous support, we continue to provide much-needed funds for Youth Ministry, an
ever-expanding program for the teens and young adults of our
parish.
Thank you! 12th Annual Golf Committee
Dear Friends,
Each February, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone asks us to join his efforts to provide
programs and ministries to the people of the Archdiocese of San Francisco through our
participation in the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal. We are called by God to be good stewards of all that He has given us, and this Appeal is an excellent way to respond to that
call.
In the Gospel of Luke, which we read from this year, we are reminded over and over
again that we have all benefited from God’s goodness. Each of us has been richly blessed
and we can find some way to give back to God. We can become the hands and heart of Jesus through our participation in this Appeal. The ministries funded by the Appeal reach the poor, the homeless, youth, senior citizens, the disabled, the sick, and many, many other people in need. These ministries and services aid virtually
every Catholic, and the Appeal also helps to spread the Good News to people who have not yet heard of Jesus
Christ. Every Catholic at Our Lady of Loretto is asked, and because we are Catholic, expected, to participate
in this Appeal.
Our parish assessment this year is $135,000, which is $28,000 more than last year, the highest in Marin County. I ask you, I beg you, to consider making a donation this year so that we can meet our assessed
amount. I personally pledge $1,350 to our parish assessment, which is 1% of our goal, $3.70 a day (who can’t
afford $3.70 a day? It’s the cost of a cup of Starbucks Coffee per day!). I ask you to join me in giving 1% or
more to the Appeal as well. All those who join me in this 1% Club will be treated to a Thank You Dinner in
the Parish Hall sometime in May. I hope and pray that you will answer my call to at least match, or give more,
than my personal donation. Of course, any amount that you can give will be greatly appreciated. In 2015, of
the 1800 registered OLL families, 380 gave to the Appeal. Out of 380 parishioners who gave, we not only
reached our goal of $107,000 but exceeded it by $40,000, which was given back to the parish to pay some
outstanding bills. It is my hope and prayer that this year many more people than 1in 5 parishioners will help
us meet our Parish Assessment. Any money raised, in addition to $135,000 will be used for our own parish
needs.
The perpetual maintenance costs on our older buildings are always a big drain on our resources. We need to
do extensive work on all our buildings: the Church, Hall, School, Rectory, and Convent. We desperately need
to update the bathrooms in our Hall.
On Sunday, March 6th, you will see a video on the AAA. The following Sunday, March 13th, you will
hear a short AAA Talk followed by an opportunity to fill out your Pledge Cards in Church. Pledge Cards will
be in the pews that Sunday so that you can easily make your pledge. After March 13th, you will not hear
about the AAA again from the pulpit. I will keep you informed on what’s going on through the Sunday Bulletin. Again, I thank you for your careful consideration of this matter and your willingness to make a pledge.
Enclosed is a brochure that gives you more information about this Appeal and the ministries and programs that it funds here in the Archdiocese. God bless you for your stewardship and for your support in the
efforts of our Church to share our abundance with those in need. I am honored to be your pastor.
Sincerely,
Father Brian

A SUNDAY FOR REJOICING
Today’s Gospel story of the prodigal son is a favorite
of many. We can identify with all the major figures and
their crisscross of emotions. The father’s initial grief over
his young son’s avarice is turned to relief at his return.
The son’s grief over his loss of fortune, family, and
friends is turned to delirious joy at the sight of his father.
We understand the eldest son’s bewilderment over his
father’s generosity. For the older son, virtue seems not to
be its own reward. For all his honorable toil and loyalty,
there seems to be no celebration. The father, however, is
prodigal in his forgiveness and mercy. He expects the
same generosity from his older son. He wants all to rejoice when the lost one is found.
This is a Sunday for rejoicing. It’s time to pause, consider, and encourage one another. We are the prodigal
children heading home. We are the elder siblings waiting
with the eager Father, who scans the horizon. In Christ
Jesus we are reconciled to the Father and one another. In
his death and resurrection we have passed over. We are a
new creation. In this we rejoice.

pagar algunas cuentas pendientes.
ayudarán a alcanzar nuestra Evaluación Parish.
Atentamente,
Padre Brian
