RelectionofToday’sGospel~John1:29-34
In this passage, we’re told that John identified Jesus as
the “Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”
Commentators suggest that this might be an allusion
to the Passover lamb consumed by the Jews as a
commemoration of the Exodus event, to the prophetic
witness in regard to the “suffering servant of Yahweh,”
to the symbolic representation of a horned lamb that’s
made for some of the heroes of Israel, or to the twice
daily sacrifice of a lamb in the temple of Jerusalem.
John the Baptist unites all of these symbolically when
he recognizes Jesus as the “Lamb of God.” The Jews
considered the offering of Isaac by Abraham to be the
pivotal event in salvation history. Rather than requiring
the sacrifice of Isaac, God sent an angel to Abraham
to point out a ram (an adult male sheep) caught by his

Do you truly believe that Jesus has come to take your
sins away? If there is something in your past for which
you are ashamed, confess it now, in the silence of your
heart, and ask the Lamb to remove it from you. If nothing
immediately comes to mind, spend time in prayer asking
that the Lamb help protect you from all temptation.

"Pope's Prayer for Synod of Bishops for Families"
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the
splendor of true love, to you we turn with trust.
Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families may
be in places of communion and
prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and
small domestic churches.
Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never
again experience violence, rejection and division;
may all who have been hurt or scandalized find
ready comfort and healing.
Holy Family of Nazareth, may the approaching
Synod of Bishops make us once more mindful
of the sacredness and inviolability of the family,
and its beauty in God's plan.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer.

THE BISHOP’S APPEAL 2014
IS UNDERWAY
“LIVING THE EUCHARIST”
The Bishop’s Appeal 2014 begins with a mailing that many of our parishioners have received or will soon receive.
This is a mailing from Bishop Stika asking for a generous pledge to this year’s Appeal.
Your gift not only funds many of the operations of the Diocese, it funds services that are of great help to the ministries
here in our parish. For example, funds support…
Liturgical Ministries
Service Ministries
Catechetical Ministries
This year, the theme of the Appeal is “Living the Eucharist”. The Eucharist is the center of our faith. It is a great gift from
Jesus Christ that helps us to extend His Word, His Love and His Light to others. Your contribution to the Bishop’s Appeal
serves as a symbol of your gratitude for the Eucharist and all of God’s many gifts to you. Each Appeal gift enables the
Diocese to build up the kingdom of God throughout East Tennessee.
God gives us all that we have. Even when we want to believe that our successes are self-made, we know that it is God
who has blessed us abundantly with all we have. He is always giving to us. His grace is always there for us. One way
that we can show our gratitude is by offering our generous financial support to our parish and to our Diocese and to
the Church throughout the world. The gifts that we give enable ministries, education and services that
touch thousands of lives.
