From the Pastor’s Desk…
On the sixth Sunday of Easter, Jesus is gradually approaching the end
of His earthly ministry, so He promised to send us the Holy Spirit who
will guide us in all our decisions and ways through this world. Jesus
assures us that the Holy Spirit will teach and remind us of all He
Himself had taught us. Only through the help of the Holy Spirit we
can preach as well as the Apostles did. This is because, “no one can
say Jesus is Lord except by the power of the Holy Spirit” (I Cor 12, 3).
The Ascension of the Lord
May 5th is the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord (Holy Day of
Obligation). We confess in the creed: “Jesus ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.” The Ascension makes
the end of Jesus’ life on earth and the beginning of the life of the
Church on earth. At His Ascension into heaven, Jesus told His
disciples to go all over the world and bear witness to the Gospel of
life. May God help us to continue His life-giving mission.
First Holy Communion
On Saturday May 7th, we will celebrate First Holy Communion for
many of our young people. They will receive the wonderful gift of
Eucharist for the first time. We congratulate each of them, as well as
their families and teachers who have helped these children to receive
this Sacrament. Here, I would like to share with you the beauty and
the richness of the Holy Eucharist.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church says. "The Eucharist is 'the
source and summit of the Christian life.” Just as it is necessary to
nourish our bodies with material food, so also it is necessary to
nourish our souls with spiritual food. Jesus loves us so much that He
gives Himself in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist; He gives us His
own Body and Blood as food for our souls.
To receive more abundantly the graces of Holy Communion, we
should strive to be our most fervent and to free ourselves from
deliberate venial sin.
After Holy Communion we should spend some time adoring Our Lord,
thanking Him, renewing our promises of love and obedience to Him,
and asking Him for blessings for ourselves and others.
God bless you,
Fr. John Francis

SIXTH Sunday OF EASTER
A Prayer for Mothers
Where would we be without our mother's love? Lord, bless
our mothers with wisdom to teach and guide their children
in a way that will help them to follow You and to become
men and women who will be pleasing in Your sight.
Give all mothers the patience to deal with the difficulties of
their job and, most of all, give them a special blessing as
they care so lovingly for the gifts that You have allowed
them the honor of raising. Amen.
The BEREAVEMENT GROUP
will have their meeting Monday, May 9th, in the
Religious Education Center at 7:30 pm.
If you would like to share your feelings over the
loss of a loved one we will be here for you, and
try to accompany you during the hardest hours of your
grief.
