(Sr. Catherine) ************ FIESTA THANKS Dear Parishioners, Very many thanks for the response to the Parish Fiesta. It was a great day for all of us. First of all, “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His mercy endures forever.” Secondly, the lay-out was very well conceived; the placement of the tents, the stage, the food and drink booths, and the information booth were all looking very good. The food was once more five-star, cinco estrellas. The members of the Righetti Marimba Band, with their colorful dances and rhythms and songs...did themselves proud. Well done, Bill Veroski, Steve Hein, Marie Farley and their spouses for overseeing everything. Well done, too, the big crowd of helpers whose unseen services and labors brought it all together. PAGE THREE PART-TIME CUSTODIAN NEEDED The parish is in need of a nighttime custodian to work: Wed., Thur, Fri..,Sat 5:30-9:30pm. Sunday 4:30-8:30pm And on the first Friday from 10am-12 noon. Back to school: it’s important to meet school staff As we go back to school, parents should take an active role in getting to know the instructors that will be caring for and teaching their kids. In the morning before school starts walk your children into the building to meet teachers and staff. Ask the teachers and administrators to explain how they plan to keep students safe, including monitoring of remote areas of the school. For more back-to-school safety tips and complete article from VIRTUS® email: [email protected]. FR. CHARLES UPDATE Fr . Char les is in Mar yland, from Sept 1-23. He will start the CPE course at Methodist Hospital in Arcadia from Sept. 28-Dec. 11th. He will reside at Holy Angels parish in Arcadia which is a block away from the hospital. Fr. Charles email is: [email protected] Fr. John is in charge until Fr. Aidan arrives in the middle of October. ************************************************* FR. AIDAN PETER We await the arrival of our new pastor, Fr. Aidan Peter. He is eager to come, but he is delayed because of Visa/passport. He hopes to be here by the second week of Oct. In the meantime, we pray for him and for all of SLDM Parish. (Sr. Catherine) ******************************************** Bishop Robert Barron If you read the Sept. 11 edition of the Tidings, you know that we have three new Bishops in the LA Archdiocese: Bishop Robert Barron, Bishop Joseph Brennan, Bishop Joseph O’Connell. We welcome Bishop Robert Barron as the Bishop of the Santa Barbara Pastoral Region ( Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties). Even though this Chicago native is not familiar with the Central Coast, he is no stranger to us. Those of us who followed the mini series on Catholicism two years ago appreciated his vast knowledge and interesting presentations. He assures us that he is opening his loving heart to all of us; he is working diligently on becoming fluent in Spanish; and he using map search and other means to be able to avail of our hospitality. He has the privilege of giving the Keynote Address at the World Meeting of Families, Sept. 22, in Philadelphia. On Sept. 23 he will attend the canonization of St. Junipero Serra in Washington, D.C. (Close connection to Pope Francis!) We have been informed that we will be the HOST PARISH to welcome him officially to Region One of the Archdiocese.
