Feria de Sevilla
Travel to the far banks of the Guadalquivir River to be in Spain's
Seville Fair. Walk the fairgrounds and see rows of elaborately
decorated Casetas. Here we meet Sanchita the jester and
Pepita the puppeteer, who are preparing to perform for Queen
Isabel. Using drama, dance, puppetry, visual art, and Spanish
vocabulary, the children become the performers. When Pepita
shares a puppet show with fighting, these young performers
use pretend and play to help change the show.

The Magic Drum
Journey to a Nigerian village and join the zebras, elephants and
flamingos for the story of The Magic Drum! What will happen
when Ijapa the turtle tricks them into giving her the drum? The
other animals, played by our campers, work together to teach
Ijapa about how unfair and hurtful it is to discriminate against
others. Our campers help finish the story through creative
play, visual arts, rhythm, and movement. The Magic Drum will
feature a special activity planned through a partnership with
Jefferson Memorial Forest.

Inspired by Anne Shelby’s retelling of traditional Appalachian
stories, students will build plays about the adventures of
Molly Whuppie. Molly is a self-sufficient and smart girl
who has a great curiosity about life and the world around
her. Join Molly in her adventures and help her to get out
of tight corners with imagination and quick thinking!

GirlSpeak gives girls an opportunity to learn about theatre as
well as to find their own voices, work together in a group, and
to use critical-thinking skills. Middle school girls will work
with Looking for Lilith artists to decide on a topic or issue
around which to create a play. Participating in collaborative
play-making activities, they will create their own play to be
staged at a family sharing on the last day of camp.
