Week by Week through The Year of Mercy
World Youth day in Krakow: “Blesses are the merciful, for they
will be shown mercy” This week, the universal Church focuses
in prayerful solidarity on World Youth Day in Krakow, where
WYD’s founder, Saint Paul II, severs as archbishop. Its theme
coincides with that of Pope Francis’ Jubilee Year of Mercy:
“Blesses are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy” (Matthew 5:7). Today’s Gospel echoes the same
theme, as Jesus teaches us not only words to pray, but
what deeds must match authentic prayer. How beautifully down-to earth is Jesus’ portrait of a God who can
be trusted to do what is best for us. A pesky neighbor
disturbs a sleeping friend and disturbs the household.
Yet beautiful images unfold. Persevering prayer receives active, practical mercy in loaves of bread,
recalling Luke’s unique expression for the Eucharist,
“the breaking of bread” (Luke 24:35; Acts2:42). WYD,
the Jubilee, and Jesus thus unite to define perfect prayer
as preserving communion with God and unconditional
mercy toward our neighbor.

El Evangelio de hoy se hace eco del mismo tema, como Jesús
nos enseña no sólo palabras para orar, pero ¿qué acciones debe
coincidir con la oración auténtica. Como muy bien los pies
en la tierra es el retrato de un Dios que se puede confiar
para hacer lo que es mejor para nosotros de Jesús. Un vecino molesto perturba un amigo para dormir y perturba el
hogar. Sin embargo, bellas imágenes se despliegan. la
oración perseverante recibe piedad activa, práctica en
hogazas de pan, recordando la expresión única de Lucas a
la Eucaristía, "la fracción del pan" (Lucas 24:35; Hechos
2: 42). JMJ, el Jubileo, y Jesús lo tanto se unen para definir
la oración perfecta como la preservación de la comunión con
Dios y la misericordia incondicional hacia nuestro vecino.

Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
The gospel this weekend shows a picture where
Jesus teaches his disciples how to pray. It’s a
beautiful and inspiring scene where the Master
of prayer is with his followers who have a great
longing to pray. Jesus taught them the Lord’s
Prayer, calling God, Father. Prayer is a very
important aspect of our christian life. Pope
Francis says in one of his homilies that “prayer
is the strength of the Christian and of every person who believes.” Prayer is the source of our inpiration and our strength.
The pope says further that in the weakness and frailty of our
lives, we can turn to God with the confidence of children and
enter into communion with him. In the face of so many wounds
that hurt us and could harden our hearts, we are called to dive
into the sea of prayer, which is the sea of God’s boundless love
and mercy. Let us, like the disciples of Jesus, ask him, “Lord
teach us how to pray”.
