Mission Statement
We, the people of St. Monica Catholic Church, recognize ourselves as a community of God’s children called to holiness
through Baptism and the Eucharist, to share the love of Christ through the message of the Gospel. Our mission is to
pray and worship, teach and share Christ’s saving message as we evangelize, build up, and nurture communities of
faith; serving in Christ’s name as we journey with each other to the fullness of eternal life.

Parish faithful, will you commit to watch and pray for at least 30 minutes on Holy Thursday? Just as Jesus took Peter, James, and John
to keep watch at Gethsemane we encourage the parish faithful to continue adoration before the Blessed Sacrament anytime between
8:30 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. This is a great opportunity to spend time meditating on the great sacrifice Jesus made on Good Friday so
come alone, with your family, or with your ministry/organization. If you have a question please call 281-370-7391.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Today is Palm Sunday and the beginning of the holiest of Christian weeks. Let us pray for the grace to take up our
own cross and to follow Jesus through death to new life.
As you place your gift in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box, know that you are a sign God’s love to those who carry their cross of suffering and pain.
The Promise of Giving
In an effort to keep from depleting our food supply at our Food Pantry we need your help. Beginning next month, April, we will
begin “The Promise of Giving” food collection project. This project enables everyone in the parish to play an active part in ending
the dreadful epidemic of hunger in our community. Every first Sunday, we will provide brown bags with a list of items we need in
our pantry for that particular month, attached to the bag. There will be someone distributing the bags after each Mass. This is strictly
on a volunteer basis, so please don’t feel obligated. The Word of God says, “Give according to the blessings of your life.” If you feel
that you’ve been blessed, then we ask that you please be a blessing to someone else by taking a bag, purchase the items included on
the list, place the items in the bag, and at some point during that month when you come to Mass, place the bag in the St. Vincent de
Paul food box located in the vestibule of the church. We can’t beat God’s giving no matter how we try. Let’s unite together and
eliminate hunger in our Community.

From The Pastor’s Desk:
Palm Sunday always reminds me that life is one big paradox. Jesus stated this paradox in one of his teachings when he said: Unless
a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies it remains a single grain, but if it dies, it produces much fruit (Jn 12 24). He also taught
this: He who seeks his life will lose it but he who loses his life for my sake will find it (Mt 10:39).
Every year we narrate the story of Palm Sunday because, we want to recall the event that saved us and brought us a pledge of eternal
life and glory, to relive the experience in order to draw strength for our own suffering and daily dying, and to build up our hope in
God and what he has promised. When we die to self we live for God. Let us ask God for the grace to go through our daily transformation which prepares us for eternal life.
On Easter Tuesday, April 2, 2013, I will travel home to Nigeria to visit with my family. I will be back in the Parish on May 3, 2013.
Please pray for my safe trip.
Please keep the bulletin insert of the schedule of events for Holy Week and consult it as needed. There will be no morning Mass on
Thursday, Friday and Saturday of Holy Week. I strongly encourage all parishioners to attend the Holy Week ceremonies with a spirit of devotion and reverence for God who loves us so much. Thank you and God bless you today, and everyday.
Fr. John Ayang, S.O.L.T.
Sunday Spiritual Thoughts
We are now in the most dramatic celebration of the year wherein the King, Jesus Christ, who is so well praised and adorned in his
entrance to Jerusalem, is to be hung on the cross; the Lord of heaven and earth, Jesus Christ. is to be lorded by his supposedly servants. However, the dramatic story of Jesus is ultimately conquered by his relentless humbling of himself through suffering and
death by offering of his life on the cross. Can we give the gifts (talents and charism) of ourselves to God and his church without
reservation as Jesus did on the cross?
This Gospel story of Jesus in this Palm Sunday celebration requires us to have a good amount of faith so as to make the story relevant in ourselves. We can be led by the story of Jesus into his life itself, if we start to believe that Jesus suffers and dies for us, because he loves us and he wants to save us. Jesus expects us to become part of his life story and not spectators. Can we give the
same amount of love and faith to Jesus? Yes we can, by our humble service to others, by our personal and communal efforts, and by
our growth in our sacramental life.
The individual conversations that Jesus made with his listeners up until he was hung on the cross appeared that his ministering mercy was to the very end and it should encourage us to build up our trust in him. To whom shall we go and put our trust in all of our
trials, persecutions and death? To Jesus!

Vamos a

¡A Jesús!

No podemos pegar a Dios dar no importa cómo intentamos. Vamos a unirse juntos y
bancas.
