“The loneliness of mission”
Sometimes we feel misunderstood. “No one
understands me,” young people often complain. It is very
difficult to go inside another person and fully understand his or
her feelings, motivations, and dreams. The loneliness of not
being understood can be very painful.
Feeling misunderstood or the fear of being judged can
be very paralyzing. Sometimes people are capable of great
things, but they don’t feel people fully believe in them and so
they lose confidence and cannot do anything any longer.
This might happen in our own homes. We are so
familiar with those around us that sometimes we cannot see all
their capacities and potential. Not being recognized precisely
by the people who matter most to them, sometimes the
members of the family become paralyzed. They cannot do
anything. All the good they could have done remains undone,
untapped. And they feel lonely, isolated. This clips anyone’s
wings and, in a certain way, sets people up for failure.
The same thing happened to Jesus. He did not work
miracles in His own hometown because since he was so well
known, people did not believe in Him. They did not believe He
could be other than what His father was: an artisan. For any
good work, two things are needed: the capacity of the one who
does it and the belief of those around Him or Her. Otherwise,
nothing is achieved, no matter how great the feat is. People
would not be able to see it because they don’t believe it.
If we did believe in one another, we could do
extraordinary things. Each one would feel impelled and
encouraged to give his or her best with trust and hope.
For reflection
Do you know the dreams, aspirations, and capabilities of your
children? Do you encourage them to aim for greatness, not just
for their prestige and social advancement but for the good of
the community?

This weekend, Father Sam Cunningham, SVD from the
Divine Word Missionary will be with us for the annual mission
appeal. He is working at St. Patrick’s Parish in Fr. Wayne,
Indiana.
Divine Word Missionaries (SVD) is a religious
community of 6,100 Priests and Brothers who serve 72 countries
of the world. Please be generous in the second collection next
weekend.
Next weekend, the Church’s national collection for Black
and Indian Missions in the United States will be taken at all
Masses. Through your gifts, you will join your sacrifice to
Christ’s by helping those who sacrifice daily to lead others to
Christ. Please be generous. Envelopes are available in the rear of
the church.
If you will be away on vacation, please don’t forget –
parish expenses continue all year long and we so depend on your
weekly donations. Thank you for all that you do for your parish.

Effective July 1, 2012, Fr. Lino Otero has been appointed
the 11th Pastor of St. Peter’s Parish. Our prayers are with
him as he continues on his ministry to the People of St. Peter’s
Parish.

It’s Summer – As we enter summer and we think about
weekend picnics, trips to the beach and vacations, there are two
very important things we should keep in mind”
1. The summer is a time for vacations from work and school;
but it is not a time for vacation from church. We are called to
keep holy the Lord’s Day throughout the year, including the
summer months. Don’t forget about Sunday Mass.
2. During the hot weather, we should remember to dress,
appropriately for giving worship to God. Mass times while
traveling – Parishioners who are traveling may call 1 (800)

Masses in Catholic Churches throughout the USA.

RELIGIOUS ED REGISTRATIONS are currently being
accepted in the Parish Rectory. Please bring in your child’s birth
and baptismal certificates and the last school report card. The
registration fee is $70 and must be paid before September 1st.
After September 1st the fee will be $10 more per child.
Registrations will be held Monday- Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

FELICIDADES
“La Soledad de la misión”
A veces nos sentimos incomprendidos. “¡Nadie me
entiende!,” dicen a veces los jóvenes. Es muy difícil entrar en
el interior de otra persona y comprender sus sentimientos,
motivaciones y sueños. Y la soledad se hace muy dura.
El sentir tal falta de comprensión, o el temor a ser
juzgados por lo que se hace, a veces paraliza a las personas.
Podrían hacer grandes cosas, pero no sienten que nadie crea en
ellas y por lo tanto, pierden la confianza y ya no pueden hacer
nada.
Es frecuente que esto suceda en nuestra propia casa.
Tenemos tanta familiaridad con los que nos rodean, que a veces
no vemos todas sus capacidades y potencial. Al no sentirse
reconocidos precisamente por los más cercanos, a veces los
miembros de la familia no pueden hacer nada; se sienten como
paralizados. Y entonces, todo el bien que podrían hacer se
queda estancado. Y ellos se sienten solos, aislados, faltos de
comprensión. Eso corta alas, aspiraciones y sueños y, de algún
modo, condena al fracaso.
A Jesús le pasó esto mismo. En su propio pueblo no
pudo hacer milagros porque, como era tan conocido, la gente
no creía en él. Para toda cosa grande hacen falta dos cosas: el
poder y la capacidad de quien las realiza y la fe de los de
alrededor en que es posible. Si no, no se consigue nada porque,
por muy maravilloso que sea el acto realizado, nadie lo acaba
de creer.
Si creyéramos unos en otros, por cercanos que
estemos, veríamos cosas extraordinarias. Porque cada uno se
sentiría impulsado y animado a dar lo mejor de sí con
confianza y esperanza.
Para la reflexión
¿Sabe bien los sueños, las aspiraciones, las capacidades de sus
hijos? ¿Cómo los anima a que apunten a lo más alto, no sólo
por su propio prestigio y avance social sino por el bien de toda
nuestra comunidad?

El próximo fin de semana, la Conferencia de Obispos de
los Estados Unidos tendrá su colecta anual en todas las Misas para
las misiones afro-americanas e indígenas de este país. Con su
aporte, acompañaría su sacrificio con Cristo y colaboraría con
todos los que se sacrifican diariamente para guiar a otros hacia
Cristo. ¡Seamos generosos! Hay sobres disponibles en la parte
trasera de nuestra iglesia.

nombrado el 11 Párroco de San Pedro. Nuestras oraciones están

septiembre, 2012. Después de esta fecha, se aumentará la cuota a $10 por

The farmer’s market at St. John’s Church in Getty
Square is open every Thursday from July until November
from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Several farmers from upstate New
York come every Thursday and sell a variety of fresh fruits,
vegetables, baked pies, cakes and seasonal plants. A flea
market will also be featured with vendors selling a variety of
merchandise. Refreshments will be for sale from early

St. Peter’s Food Pantry is open each Tuesday and Friday
from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. We serve over 200 families
each week. We thank you for your help. The need has
increased so significantly that we want to continue serving
those who depend so much on the food that they receive
