BIENVENIDA A LOS SOCIOS / WELCOME ASSOCIATES
Queridos socios,
Este es el comienzo de un nuevo año de trabajo, de
amistad y de amor a las rosas.
¡¡¡Son ustedes bienvenidos!!!
El principio de todos los desafíos es algo que nos trae
zozobra pero el trabajo en equipo nos da la tranquilidad y confianza de que lograremos nuestros anhelos
y el desafío será al fin, el placer de alcanzar nuestros
objetivos.
Aspiramos a un trabajo en equipo, somos todos
responsables de elevar muy alto el nombre de la
Asociación Uruguaya de la Rosa. Me siento acompañada en mi tarea (Comisión Directiva, socios y
amigos) la pasión compartida por la rosa hará que
juntos alcancemos el éxito.
Deseamos que éste sea un año de amistad, de
realizaciones y de diálogo.
Esta Asociación se enriquece dialogando; no somos
ajenos a esta realidad y les pido que sea en este
ámbito que planteen sus dudas, sus cuestionamientos
y preguntas.
Este es el lugar adecuado entre amigos que tenemos
como meta una Asociación Uruguaya de la Rosa
pujante y dinámica.
Agradezco a ustedes que me eligieron para ocupar
este cargo que me honra y me llena de satisfacción y
orgullo.

Dear associates,
This is the beginning of a new year of work, friendship and sharing the love of roses.
You´re most welcome!!!
The beginning of all challenges brings us anxiety but
teamwork gives us peace of mind and confidence we
will achieve our goals and the challenge will finally be
the pleasure to reach our purpose.
We ask for teamwork, we are all responsible for
raising high the name of the Uruguayan Rose
Society.
I feel accompanied on my task (Board, associates and
friends) our shared passion for the rose will make us
reach success together.
I want this to be a year of friendship, happenings and
dialogue.
This Association enriches itself through dialogue, we
are conscious of this reality and ask you to raise your
doubts, queries and questions with us.
This is the right place for friends whose goal is a
dynamic and thriving Uruguayan Rose Society.
I thank those who chose me to occupy this chair that
honours me and fill me with satisfaction and pride.

RESEÑA DEL AÑO 2013
AUR FILIAL ESTE
La Filial Este de la Asociación Uruguaya de la
Rosa se reúne en la Chacra San Pedro o en la
Liga de Fomento de Parada 1en Punta del Este,
Maldonado.
Durante el 2013 se trataron diversos temas
como “Reconocimiento de rosas”, ”Floribundas, rugosas e inglesas”, “Display de rosas”,
“Poda práctica” y “Clasificación de Rosas
preparando la Expo”.
Asistimos a la disertación de Trevor Nottle.
Viajamos a la estancia Las Rosas y visitamos
San Pedro del Timote: una jornada inolvidable!!!!!
La Exposición fue gratamente comentada por
los paneles de Jueces asistentes destacándose
las Canastas de Rosas .
Despedimos el 2013 con una reunión que unió
a socios y familiares.

AUR EAST BRANCH
East Branch of the Uruguayan Rose Society
meets at the Chacra San Pedro or at the Liga de

During 2013 we had several lectures
“Recognizing roses”, “Floribundas, Rugosas
and English Roses” “Display of roses” “Practical
pruning” and “Classifying roses for the Show”.
We took part in Trevor Nottle`s conference.
We travelled to Estancia Las Rosas and visited
San Pedro del Timote, an unforgettable trip!!!
Our Show received very good reports from the
judges judging it highlighting the Rose Baskets.
We ended the year with a meeting with
members and their families.

En abril nos reunimos en el Museo Lacan
Guazú, después de disfrutar de las vacaciones.
Fue nuestra conferencista Rosemarie quien nos
hizo una “Introducción a las Rosas”.
Tuvimos una concurrencia muy linda con socias
nuevas, donde llevamos distintos ejemplares de
rosas para identificarlas.
En mayo nos visitó Jean Pierre Hounie, con
muchos gajitos y su disertación “El trabajo del
año con las rosas”.
Junio, nos visita Elba Simpson contándonos
toda su experiencia con el cultivo de rosas y
mostrándonos fotos del viaje realizado a
España.
En julio concurrimos todo el grupo al establecimiento rural de una de nuestras socias, donde el
Arq. Luis Carrau nos dio una charla y clase
práctica de poda de rosales.
En agosto tuvimos la grata visita de Marita
Lindner con la conferencia “Agua y Abono”.
La charla fue acompañada de imágenes de
rosales muy bellos.
En setiembre nos reunimos todas las socias y
realizamos una mesa redonda “Preparando la
exposición”, donde las socias con más experiencia invitábamos a exponer a las nuevas
socias.
El 18 de octubre tuvimos nuestra segunda
exposición titulada “Su majestad La Rosa”.
Fue un día muy especial donde el público nos
acompañó gratamente.
El 30 de octubre visitamos a Rosemarie en Paso
Correntino, donde nos recibió con mucha
alegría, recorrimos el jardín, luego almorzamos
y realizamos nuestra evaluación de la exposición y cambio de autoridades.
En noviembre realizamos la visita a la exposición en el LATU por los 30 años de la AUR.
Regresamos enriquecidas en conocimiento de
tantas variedades, color y belleza.

AUR WEST BRANCH
On April we met at the Lacan Guazú Museum,
after enjoying our holidays.
Rosemarie was our speaker and gave us an
“Introduction to Roses”.
We had a very nice turnout with new members
and brought different roses for identification.
Jean Pierre Hounie visited us in May sharing
swaps and lectured us on “The year´s work with
roses”
In June Elba Simpson visited us to tell us her
experience with growing roses and showed
pictures of her trip to Spain.
In July the group went to the farm of one of our
members where Arch. Luis Carrau gave us a
lecture and practical class on pruning rose
bushes.
In August we had the pleasant visit of Marita
Lindner.
She gave a lecture on “Water and Fertilization”,
very beautiful rose photos illustrated the lecture.
In September we discussed the preparation of
the Show with the members and invited the new
ones to exhibit.
On October 18th we had our second show
called “Her Majesty The Rose”. It was a very
special day with a lot of public.
On October 30th we visited Rosemarie´s farm
at Paso Correntino where we were greeted with
great joy, we toured the gardens, had lunch,
discussed our show and changed authorities.
In November we visited the Show at the LATU
celebrating the 30 years of the AUR. We
returned full of knowledge of so many varieties,
colour and beauty.

No pudimos cumplir con todas las actividades
programadas para el año debido a las grandes
distancias para movilizar a los conferencistas y
socios, pero estamos trabajando para mejorar
estos aspectos.
Los eventos en negrita que quedaron
pendientes serán cumplidos en el correr del
presente año.
No obstante este problema, las reuniones son
super interesantes y motivadoras, tuvimos
intercambio de esquejes que a la fecha han
florecido.
We could not fulfill all the activities planned for
the year due to the great distances to bring
lecturers and members, but we are working to
improve these aspects.
The events in bold were left pending and will be
carried out in the course of this year.
Despite this problem, meetings were very
interesting and motivating, we exchanged
cuttings that have already bloomed.

OF ROSES - TARARIRAS
Durante el año 2013 se desarrollaron con éxito
reuniones mensuales. Sus disertantes aportaron
interesantes temas enriqueciendo nuestros
conocimientos. Continuaron los trabajos en el
jardín de la asociación donde practicamos lo
enseñado.
Finalizando el año, nuestra exposición didáctica
demostró un buen aprovechamiento de los temas
tratados.
Se realizaron visitas a jardines de socios y
miembros de sociedades amigas. Un especial
agradecimiento a Jean Pierre Hounie, A.U.R. filial
Dolores y socias de Miguelete por su
extraordinaria acogida.
En la Asociación Amigos de las Rosas, con sede en
Tarariras, Departamento de Colonia, cuyos socios
vienen de diversas ciudades y parajes del mismo,
eligieron nuevas autoridades para el período
2014-2015 quedando integrada por:
During 2013 we had successful monthly meetings.
Our speakers provided interesting topics to enrich
our knowledge. We continued working in the
Association´s gardens where we practise what we
are taught.
At the end of the year, our educational show
proved good use of the topics covered. We visited
gardens of members and fellow societies.
Special thanks to Jean Pierre Hounie, the AUR
West Branch in Dolores and members of Miguelete
for their extraordinary welcome.
At the Society Friends of Roses at Tarariras,
Colonia members come from different cities and
places thereof.

informe de mi primer año como Vicepresidente
para Sudamérica.
También, en el Informe de Shows Standardisation,
en la pág 36, por Elizabeth Schleicher, van a
encontrar la respuesta a la pregunta a Di Durston,
Chairman del Heritage Rose Committee, sobre la
Bloomfield Abundance que cultivamos hoy en
nuestro país que es la misma que Spray Cécile
Brünner, Polyantha (Howard 1941).
- En Abril 2013 fui a Patagonia de vacaciones y
unos amigos me presentaron a Rafael Maino, que
vive parte del año en Bariloche y es un experto en
Rosas Antiguas. Lo entusiasmé para que fuera a la
Heritage Conference de Sangerhausen y finalmente decidió ir. Mientras visitaba el famoso
Rosedal, se percató que no estaban allí muchos de
los rosales que los inmigrantes europeos habían
traído a Sudamérica en el siglo XIX, entonces
ofreció a las autoridades que podía mandar estacas
a ese magnífico Museo de la Rosa que es
Sangerhausen y fue muy apreciado. Ahora acaba
de aplicar para que "Rosas Antiguas en Argentina"
sea Miembro Asociado de la WFRS.
Rafael Maino va a venir a Uruguay el 19 y 20 de
agosto a dar charlas, no se lo pierdan!
Considero que es muy importante asistir a las
diferentes Convenciones , donde uno intercambia
información y conoce gente de todas partes del
mundo, que comparten la misma pasión:
la Rosa…

as VP for South America.
Also, in the Shows Standardization Report, page
36, by Elizabeth Schleicher, answer to the
question to Di Durston, Chairman of the Heritage
Rose Committee: about Bloomfield Abundance
grown today in our country which would be the
same as Spray Cécile Brünner, Polyantha (Howard
1941).
- In April 2013 I went to Patagonia on holidays,
where some friends introduced me to Rafael
Maino, who lives part of the year in Bariloche and
is an expert in Old Garden Roses. I encouraged
him to attend the International Rose Heritage
Conference in Sangerhausen and finally he
decided to go. While he visited the famous
Rosarium, he noticed that many of the varieties
that the European immigrants had brought to
South America in the 19th C were not there, so he
offered to send cuttings to that wonderful Museum
of the Rose and it was very much appreciated.
Now he applied for Associate Membership from
the "Heritage Rose Group of Argentina".
Rafael Maino will come to Uruguay on the 19th
and 20th August to give lectures, don't miss them!
It is very important to attend different Conventions
where you interchange information and get to
know people from all over the world, who share
the same passion: Roses …

los Diplomas de Juez
a las nuevas juezas de
la AUR
Durante los dos últimos años se llevo a cabo un
nuevo Curso de Jueces de Rosicultura que finalizo
en agosto del 2013 con los últimos exámenes y en
el que intervinieron 22 personas de Montevideo,
Maldonado, Soriano y Tacuarembó.
Para inscribirse en el curso era necesario tener 3
años de antigüedad en la Asociación, ser un
exhibidor exitoso y obtener 3 primeros premios
antes de recibir el titulo de Juez.
Además de aprobar un examen práctico juzgando
Exposiciones como estudiantes y luego
Exposiciones como verdaderos jueces, al final del
segundo año presentaron monografías de un
excelente nivel sobre un tema especifico de la
Rosa. También tuvieron un examen teórico que
constaba de 900 preguntas con respuestas
múltiples, que cubrían temas de Ética,
Presentación, Clasificación de variedades,
Sanidad, etc.
El examen es aprobado con un promedio de 75%,
pero la nota más baja fue de 80% y la más alta de
98%.
Estoy feliz de haber sido responsable de este
Segundo Curso de Jueces. Contamos con la
invalorable ayuda de otras Jueces Nacionales y
Argentinas que brindaron clases muy didácticas
que fueron muy apreciadas por los estudiantes.
Para estar al día estos nuevos Jueces tendrán un
seguimiento del Curso que constara de 4 reuniones anuales en conjunto con las demás Jueces.

NEW JUDGES
A new Course for the preparation of New Judges
in Rose Culture was held during the last two years.
It came to an end last August 2013 with the last
Exams. Twenty persons finished the Course
successfully. To be able to take the Course it was
necessary to be a member of the Uruguayan Rose
Society for three years and to have obtained three
first prizes in Exhibitions.
The Final exams consisted of: successfully
completing a 90 multiple choice questions that
covered Ethics, Presentation, Classification of
Roses, etc, approving a practical examination
which consisted Judging in mock exhibits and
aierwards in actual exhibits, and, at last, presenting
a written study on a chosen theme on Roses. An
average of 75% was required to pass. The lowest
level was 80, the highest being 98%.
As responsible for the organization of this Second
Course, I am very happy with the results. We were
privileged by the invaluable help of National and
Argentine Judges. They gave very didactic classes,
much appreciated by the students.
The follow up of the Course will consist of four

SEPARANDO RAMAS
¿Al podar o descabezar sus rosas no se han
encontrado alguna vez con dos ramas grandes,
saludables y productivas creciendo muy juntas?
Queremos mantener las dos, pero al hacerlo el
follaje sufriría de poca circulación de aire y sería
más susceptible a la mancha negra y otras
pestes. Además, los nuevos brotes chocarían
con los otros afectando su crecimiento
causando tallos retorcidos y curvos.
¿Es posible mantener ambas ramas y su
productividad?
A menudo es posible separar las ramas para que
cada una tenga más espacio para crecer y
desarrollarse. Una forma de hacer esto es
insertar una “férula”, un divisor, horizontal entre
las dos para forzar la separación. Una estaca
finita y pequeña descartada de una poda, sirve
muy bien para este propósito. Suavemente
separe las varas y coloque la estaca entre ellas.
Los acúleos de la estaca y ramas ayudarán a
asegurar la separación al insertarla en el lugar.
Dejar la estaca en su lugar por varias semanas,
después de lo cual se puede quitar y las ramas
quedarán en su nueva posición.
Obviamente las ramas son más fáciles de
separar y entablillar cuando son jóvenes y
tiernas. Para las ramas más viejas e inflexibles
trate de hacer su entablillado en dos o tres
etapas. Sepárelos levemente la primera vez,
luego, después que se hayan establecido en su
nueva posición, entablíllelos nuevamente con
más separación. Al igual que vamos tutorando
las ramas de los rosales trepadores los rosales
arbustivos se pueden manejar si se hace el
trabajo en forma lenta y de a poco.
SPLINT THOSE
CROWDED CANES
Haven´t we all had the experience of
encountering two big, healthy productive canes
growing very close together when pruning or
deadheading our roses? We want to keep both
of them, but by doing so the foliage will have
poor air circulation and be more susceptible to
blackspot and other diseases. In addition interfacing sprouts will grow into each other stunting
their growth and causing twisted, bent stems. Is
it possible to keep both canes and still allow
them to be productive_
It is often possible to separate the canes so each
has more room to grow and develop. One way
to do this is to insert a “splint”, a divider or
separator, horizontally between the two to force
them apart. A thin, short piece of discarded rose
cane works very well for this purpose. Gently
spread the canes apart and put the splint
between them. A well-placed prickle on either
cane will help secure the split when inserted into
its soft pithy center. Leave the splint in place for
several weeks, after which time it can be
removed and the canes should remain in their
new position.
Obviously, canes are easier to spread and splint
when they are young and tender. For older,
more inflexible canes, try doing your splinting in
two to three stages. Spread them only slightly
the first time, then, after they have set in this
new position, resplint them slightly father apart.
Similar to training the canes on climbing roses,
those of bush roses can be managed if you take
things slowly and in small increments.

El Jardín Municipal de Rosas de San José “San
José Municipal Rose Garden” es una historia de
transformación. Este parque histórico fue
alcanzado por los recortes presupuestarios,
languideció en muy mal estado, fue puesto a
prueba, luego rescatado y renovado por Amigos
del San José Rose Garden (una organización sin
fines de lucro de voluntarios para rescatar y
renovar este parque histórico), que, en menos de
tres años, lo transformó en el "Mejor Jardín de las
Rosas de América" (Premio otorgado por la All
American Rose Selection).
Los detalles de cómo se lograron estas
transformaciones están documentados el sitio

Otros parques en los EE.UU. están utilizando el
caso de estudio de All American Rose Selection
de este programa como modelo. Este Jardín

The San Jose Municipal Rose Garden is a story of
transformation. This historic landmark park got hit
by budget cuts, languished into serious disrepair,
was put on probation, then rescued, renovated and
renewed by Friends of the San Jose Garden (a non
profit volunteer organization to rescue an renovate
this historic landmark park), which, in less than
three years, transformed it into “America's Best
Rose Garden” (All American Rose Selection
Award). The details of how these transformation
was achived is well documente onthe website
www.FriendsSJRoseGarden.org. Other Parks
across the USA are using the All-America Rose
Selection Case Study of this program as a model.
This Municipal Rose Garden has become a symbol
of the power of community service.

Existen maravillosas rosaledas en todo el mundo, pero algunas son realmente excepcionales de un
punto de vista histórico, educativo y/o visual. La Federación Mundial de Sociedades de Rosa a partir
del año 1995 ha reconocido a las mejores de estas rosaledas otorgándoles el Premio de Excelencia.
Hemos elegido cuatro de ellos en cuatro ubicaciones geográficas distantes y contextos diferentes que
han sido premiados con el “Award of Merit Garden Excellence”.
ROSEDAL DE PALERMO – ARGENTINA
El Rosedal de Palermo esta localizado dentro de
el Parque 3 de Febrero. Fue diseñado en 1914 y
la restauración comenzó en 1994 con una
donación de 2000 rosas de Meilland de Francia.
Las Pruebas Internacionales de Nuevas
Rosas comenzaron en 2000 y la restauración
fue completada en 2008. El jardín se encuentra
enmarcado por altos árboles autóctonos,
palmeras, jacarandas con sus flores azules en
primavera y ceibos con sus flores rojas rayadas
(nuestra flor nacional) en verano.
Una breve reseña histórica nos da una
idea de los antecedentes que hoy
conforman el Rosedal de Palermo: El
Gral. Urquiza al mando del Ejercito
Grande derroto al tirano Juan Manuel
Rosas en la batalla de Caseros en 1852
y confiscando sus tierras, determinó
que estas fueran lugar de recreo de
pertenencia pública. El nombre
Rosedal lo dio el tiempo ya que en el
origen la intención era embellecerlo
con caneros de flores y rosas. La
Rosaleda, propiamente dicha, con sus
numerosos canteros de diferentes
clases de rosas, es el corazón del
parque, donde todas las primaveras
florecen los más de 12.000 ejemplares
de rosas que alberga en una explosión
de color y aromas, protegido en todo su contorno
por una reja de hierro forjado. El Jardín de los
Poetas, exhibe bustos que recuerdan a
importantes escritores de distintos países; el Patio
Andaluz, construido en 1929 y obsequiado por la
ciudad de Sevilla a la ciudad de Buenos Aires; la
Glorieta, cubierta de rosales trepadores y
enredaderas que culmina en la obra escultórica de
Emile Peynot Ofrenda floral a Sarmiento¨; y el
Puente, magnifica construcción de madera que
atraviesa el lago.

No podía faltar algo tan emblemático como el
Jardín de la Royal National Rose Society.
Los jardines de la Rosa, inaugurados en 1963,
es el jardín de la Royal National Rose Society.
El jardín original incluyo rosas modernas, rosas
especie de importancia histórica, rosas trepadoras modernas y antiguas y las pruebas internacionales de rosas nuevas.
Estuvo cerrado al público en 2005 y reabierto
en 2007 completamente rediseñado y reformado. El nuevo diseño, que abarca 5 hectáreas,
esta más de acuerdo con la ideas modernas
sobre todo lo relativo a las plantas acompañantes.

GULAB BAGH – UDAIPUR – INDIA
Gulab Bagh: traducido como “El jardín de las
rosas” está ubicado en el Sajjan Niwas Park, de
Udaipur.
Udaipur: la Ciudad de los Lagos, en la India.
En el estado indio de Rajastan, al noroeste de la
India, se encuentra una de las mas hermosas
ciudades del subcontinente asiático.
Udaipur, rodeada de lagos,
donde el más grande de
todos ellos, el lago Pichola,
se ubica dentro de la
ciudad. Construido por
Sajjan Singh en el tardío
siglo XIX Gulab Bagh es un

REVIEW OF 4 ROSE GARDENS WITH
“AWARD OF MERIT GARDEN EXCELLENCE”

There are beautiful rose gardens in the world , but some are truly exceptional from a historical,
educational and/or visual point of view.
Since 1995 the World Federation of Rose Societies has recognized the best of these rose gardens
granting the “Award of Excellence”.
We chose four of them in four distant geographic locations and different contexts, that have been
awarded the "Award of Garden Merit Excellence".
ROSEDAL de PALERMO ARGENTINA.
The Rose Garden of
Palermo is located in the 3
de Febrero Park. It was
designed in 1914 and
restoration began in 1994
with a donation of 2000
roses Meilland from

Roses Trials began in 2000
and the restoration was
completed in 2008.
The garden is framed by tall
native trees, palms,
Jacaranda trees with its
blue flowers in spring and
Erythrina crista-galli trees
with red striped flowers
(our national flower) in
summer.
A brief history gives us an
idea of the background that now make up the
Rose Garden of Palermo: Gen. Urquiza
commanding the Great Army defeated the
tyrant Juan Manuel Rosas at the Battle of
Caseros in 1852 and confiscating their lands,
determined that these will be use as playground
of public ownership.
The name “Rosaleda” (Rose Garden) was given
by the time as at the begining it was intended to
embellish the beds with flowers and roses. “La
Rosaleda”, itself, with its many different kinds of

rose beds, is the heart of the park, where every
spring over 12,000 roses bloom in an explosion of color and fragrances, protected on all
sides by a wrought iron fence.
The Garden of the Poets, exhibits busts in
memory of important writers from different
countries, the Patio Andaluz, built in 1929 and
given by the city of Sevilla to Buenos Aires, the
Gazebo, covered with climbing roses and vines
that culminates in the sculptural work of Emile
Peynot “Floral Offering to Sarmiento”, and the
magnificient wood Bridge over the lake .

Could not miss something as iconic as the
Garden of the Royal National Rose Society.
The Gardens of the Rose, opened in 1963, it is
the garden of the Royal National Rose Society.
The original included modern roses, species
roses of historical significance, modern and
antique climbing roses and international trials of
new roses .
The Garden was closed to the public in 2005
and reopened in 2007 completely redesigned
and refurbished. The new design, which covers
5 hectares, is more in accordance with modern
ideas specially in relation to companion
planting.

Gulab Bagh : translated as " The Rose Garden "
is located in the Sajjan Niwas Park, Udaipur.
Udaipur: City of Lakes, in India. In the Indian
state of Rajasthan, in northwestern India, it is
one of the most beautiful cities in the Asian
subcontinent.
Udaipur, surrounded by lakes, where the biggest
of them all, Lake Pichola, is situated within the
city.
Built by Sajjan Singh in the late nineteenth
century Gulab Bagh is a spectacular rose garden
established by Maharaja Sajjan Singh on the
east side of Lake Pichola.
It is the best garden in Asia located in a
populated area and covers about 40 hectares.
This is the garden of the Pakistan National Rose
Society.
It was established in 1992 and is open to the
public throughout the year. It contains about
200 varieties of roses and about 15,000 plants.
The garden consists of large lily ponds and
several varieties of trees that provide ample
shade to visitors.
There is a mini zoo and a children's train that
runs through the garden.

The Royal National Rose Society aims to have a
garden where members can enjoy and be
proud, attract visitors and promote the rose.
This garden is a "work in progress" and the
intention is to continue the development so that
it becomes the main rose garden in Britain.
TREVOR GRIFFITHS ROSE GARDEN - TIMARU - NEW ZEALAND
Trevor Griffiths "Rose color Garden "
Opened in 2001, this garden was
established to preserve and honor the
collection of roses collected by the
World renowned horticulturist Trevor
Griffiths.
Designed by Sir Miles Warren, the
garden contains more than 1100
varieties of roses - especially heritage,
species and varieties from David
Austin.
The varieties are cultivated to provide
continuous flowering, achieving a gradual
progression in color from one end to the the
other of the garden . The garden is at its best in
November and December when the ramblers
and noisettes are in bloom.
It is owned by the community, so it is maintained
by the Timaru District Council in addition to
volunteers, an example to follow.

PREPARANDO ROSAS PARA EXHIBIR
DOS MESES ANTES
Estamos a fines de invierno, ya nuestras Rosas están
podadas, alimentadas y soportando los últimos fríos.
A un mes y medio de nuestra Exposición tenemos que
mirarlas con atención todos los días. Ver cómo se
están desarrollando, cuidar que no las ataque alguna
enfermedad. Si somos principiantes lo mejor es
visitar varias exposiciones, observar las clases, anotar
las variedades ganadoras e intentar determinar porque fueron premiadas. Si este año no se animan a
participar esto ayudará a hacerlo al año próximo.
Si ya esta preparado para presentar una rosa este
año, es aconsejable que empiece por elegir Rosas que
sean sanas y con una forma elegante. Nuestros
conocimientos irán aumentando a medida que las
conozcamos mejor. Debemos ir alimentándolas primero suavemente, por lo menos hasta que aumente
un poco la temperatura. Le podemos agregar
estiércol bien descompuesto, humus de lombriz, té de
alfalfa, cama de caballo y si el tamaño del rosal lo
permite empezar con fertilizantes químicos; pero en
pequeñas proporciones. Recordar siempre que es
mejor poca cantidad, (incluso menos de lo que indica

UN MES ANTES
Empezamos a preparar nuestros rosales. Las rosas
por término medio y dependiendo del clima, florecen
unas 12 semanas después de la poda, pero este
período puede oscilar entre 10 y 16 semanas. Existe
un sistema básico que utilizan los expertos: trate de
cultivar tantas plantas como pueda y pódelas en
fechas diferentes, El riego es importante, si hay si hay
sequía riegue diariamente, esto ayudará a disolver los
nutrientes que la planta está ávida de absorber,
DESPIMPOLLADO
Esta tarea se realiza en las rosas que se presentan con
una sola flor por tallo. Ej. Híbridas de Té. Cuando se
vean los pimpollos como para poder retirarlos con
mucha prolijidad y dejar solamente uno por tallo, esto
permite que el pimpollo principal se desarrolle mejor
y más vigoroso. Para las rosas que florecen en
ramillete más o menos dos semanas antes de la
Exposición se retira el pimpollo central y uno o dos
de los más pequeños, así se abrirán todos juntos y del
mismo tamaño. Ahora ya podemos ir agregando
buenos fertilizantes específicos de Rosas como TOP
ROSE, OSMOCOTE, PHOSTROGEN, MIRACLE
GRO o 15-15-15, algunos son de liberación
controlada y otros son sales solubles que se pueden
utilizar para abono foliar.
DOS SEMANAS ANTES DE LA EXPOSICION
A esta altura ya tendremos el Programa de la
Exposición, debemos estudiarlo detenidamente
tratando de que podamos entenderlo e ir señalando
las rosas que tenemos y que tienen su clase en el
programa. Buscar sus nombres y su clasificación, es
decir, saber si son Hibridas de Té, Floribundas,
Polyanthas, Trepadoras, Antiguas, Especies,
Arbustivas Modernas (R. Inglesas, Rugosas, etc.) o
Miniaturas. Buscar ayuda en las personas que tienen
más años exponiendo y ganando premios. No
debemos olvidar que el riego debe ser importante, es
lo que le da sustancia a las flores y al follaje. Mojar
solamente la tierra no el follaje para evitar manchas
que quitarán puntos a la muestra. Pedir las tarjetas de
Expositor con tiempo y así poder rellenarlas
cómodamente.

PREPARING ROSES FOR A SHOW
TWO MONTHS BEFORE
By the end of winter, our Roses are pruned
already, fed and struggling the end of the cold
season. One month and a half before our Show
we have to watch them daily very carefully. Check
how they are developing, avoiding possible
diseases. If we are beginners, it is best to visit
several shows, observe the classes, take notes on
the winning species and try to determine why they
won. If this year you are not sure, this will
encourage you to participate next year.
If you are prepared to exhibit a rose this year, it is
best to start choosing a healthy rose with an
elegant form. Our knowledge will improve as we
get to know them better. Firstly we must feed
them gradually, at least until temperature rise. We
can add well rotten manure, vermicomposting,
alfalfa tea, and horse bed. And if the size of the
rose bush allows, start with chemical fertilizers, but
in small quantities. Always remember that it is
better few amount (even less than the
recommended dose) more often than to fertilize
more often with lots of product and less seldom.
Spray with a good preventive fungicide and
control aphids that may appear with an
insecticide.
ONE MONTH BEFORE
We start to prepare our roses. Generally speaking
and depending on climate, Roses bloom
approximately 12 weeks after pruning, but this
period may differ between 10 and 16 weeks.
There is a basic method used by experts: try to
plant as many plants as you can and prune them in
different stages. Watering is important, if there is
drought water daily, this will help to dissolve the
nutrients the plant is avid to absorb.
DISBUDDING
This task is to be performed on roses that will be
exhibited under one bloom per stem. For ex. in
Hybrid Teas. When buds become visible they must

be removed neatly leaving only one per stem, this
allows the vigorous development of the main bud.
For those roses that bloom in sprays, around two
weeks prior to the Show the central bud is removed
as well as two of the smallest one so the rest of
them will open together and have the same size.
Now we can add good fertilizers specific to roses as
TOP ROSE, OSMOCOTE, PHOSTROGEN,
MIRACLE GRO or 15-15-15, some are slow
release and others are soluble salts that can be used
as foliar fertilizers
TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE SHOW
At this time we will already have the Show`s
Program, we must study it carefully, trying to
understand it and keeping track of the roses we
have and have their class in the programme. Look
out for names and their classification, this is, to
know if they are Hybrid Tea, Floribunda,
Polyantha, Climbing, Old Garden, Species, Shrub

Las pruebas de ADR se establecieron por Wilhelm Kordes hace 50
años, dada la necesidad de probar y
evaluar el desempeño de nuevas
variedades y fortalecer la conciencia de variedades. Hoy, el grupo de
trabajo ADR esta formado por la
Asociación Alemana de Viveros,
criadores de rosas y jardines de
ensayo independientes.
Los objetivos de cría han cambiado
con los años. Se han desarrollado
nuevos colores, flor y tipos de
crecimiento para varios propósitos.
De la misma manera cambiaron las
directrices para las pruebas ADR.
Actualmente, las variedades nuevas se prueban en once centros de
ensayo durante varios años. Se
evalúan características como la
resistencia al invierno, número de
flores, atractivo y aroma de la flor y
tipo de crecimiento. Las principales
características de esta evaluación,
sin embargo, son resistencia a
plagas y enfermedades. Las
variedades cultivadas en los sitios de
ensayo no reciben pesticidas
químicos. Las variedades ganadoras están por encima de un cierto
nivel de calidad. Más de 2.000

ADR ROSEN (Germany)
Earth-Kind is a special designation
given to select rose cultivars by the
Texas AgriLife Extension Service
through the EarthKindlandscaping program. It is
based on the results of extensive
research and field trials and is
awarded only to those roses
demonstrating superior pest
tolerance, combined with
outstanding landscape
performance.
Earth-Kind roses do well in a
variety of soil types, ranging from
well-drained acid sands to poorly
aerated, highly alkaline clays.
Once established, these select
cultivars also have excellent heat
and drought tolerance.
The use of Earth-Kind roses
provides the opportunity to enjoy
these wonderful flowering plants
while limiting the use of fertilizers,
pesticides, and water.
These sustainable practices are
excellent examples of how EarthKind landscaping is working to
preserve and protect our natural
resources and the environment
ADR tests were established by
Wilhelm Kordes 50 years ago,
given the need to test and evaluate
the performance of new varieties
and strengthen the awareness of
varieties. Today, the ADR working
group is formed by the German
Association of Nurseries, rose
breeders and independent testing
gardens.
The breeding objectives have
changed over the years. New
colors , flower types and growth for
various purposes have been
developed. In the same way they
changed the guidelines for ADR
testing. Currently, new varieties
are tested in eleven test sites for
several years. Characteristics such
as winter hardiness, number of
flowers, attractiveness, fragrance
and growth habit are evaluated.
The main feature of this
evaluation, however, is resistence
to pests and diseases. The varieties
grown in the test fields do not
recive chemical pesticides.
Winners are varieties above a
certain level of quality. More than
2,000 varieties have been
evaluated. The current list of ADRRoses comprisses 178 varieties.
However, this certificate may be
withdrawn by the ADR jury, if a
variety does not meet the standard
of quality ADR anymore. ADR is
an essential contribution to organic
farming and the use of roses in
parks and public and private
gardens, as it provides wellfounded information to consumers
and nurseries to assess the many
varieties of roses.

OTROS TIPOS DE ROSAS
AUSTIN:
David Austin, el hibridador inglés, presentó su
primera creación, "Constance Spry” en 1960 y
desde entonces ha desarrollado una enorme
colección de rosas modernas con el aspecto y el
perfume de las rosas antiguas europeas y el
beneficio añadido de la refloración. También
conocidas como "Rosas inglesas”
BERMUDA MYSTERY ROSES:
El término fue utilizado por primera vez por
Peter Harkness cuando visitó las Bermudas a
finales de los 70. El término se refiere a una
serie de variedades, que se han cultivado en las
Bermudas durante muchos años - algunos desde
mediados de 1700. Se cree que la mayor parte
de estas rosas son cultivares de rosas antiguas,
que de otra manera se han dejado de cultivar, o
mutaciones de los mismos. Son "rosas misteriosas" porque sus nombres "correctos" históricos
se han perdido. La tradición dicta que llevan el

BILTMORE ROSE GARDEN
COLLECTION:

criadores de rosas están contribuyendo rosas
con gran variedad de hábitos de crecimiento,
tamaños y colores. Los temas comunes entre
ellas son la resistencia a enfermedades, la

BUCK ROSES:
Al igual que en Dr. Griffith Buck, el hibridador
que hizo su misión el crear rosas que podrían

CANADIAN HARDY:

EASY ELEGANCE:
Colección de los Viveros Bailey. Es una serie de
rosas arbustivas criada por Ping Lim.
Compactos por naturaleza, ofrecen una amplia
gama de color y forma de floración y resistencia
excelente.
ENGLISH LEGEND®:
Un grupo de rosas de Harkness de Inglaterra.
Han ganado muchos premios en todo el mundo
y han sido comercializados en Francia y
Alemania, como rosas "English Legend"
durante varios años. La mayoría tienen una
fragancia maravillosa con varios perfumes
diferentes y perduran como flores cortadas. Los
English Legend™ se ubican entre las "Rosas
inglesas" y las "Romántica”. Sus principales
características son una gama de colores más

FLOWER CARPET®:

FOUND:
Una rosa que se ha descubierto y aún no
identificado. Tomarán un nombre temporal que
refleja la ubicación donde se descubrió. Por lo
general, se dan los nombres de estudio entre
comillas. En Australia se denotan por ROR (rosa
antiguo renombrado) después del nombre de
estudio.
GENEROSA:
Rosas creadas por la firma francesa Guillot con
la forma de rosas antiguas. Su principal objetivo
es recrear la belleza y la fuerte fragancia de rosas
antiguas con la floración repetida de las modernas.
GROUND COVER:
(Cubresuelos): A fines de la década de 1980,
fuimos testigos de la aparición de auténticos
rosales cubresuelos, especialmente creados
para propagarse sin ganar altura. Por cierto,
estos quedan muy bien en una cesta colgante.
HERITAGE ROSES:
(Rosas de Patrimonio): Rosas originarias del
siglo XIX o anteriores con especial valor
histórico, educativo o genético.
KNOCK OUT ®:
Introducido en 2000 por Bill Radler, Knock Out
ganó el prestigioso Premio All American Rose el
primer año de distribución, y desde entonces ha
vendido por millones y continúa haciéndolo.
Son increíblemente fiables, resistentes, no se
enferman y llevan a fomentar el cultivo de otras
rosas .
KORDES:
Una empresa alemana (con más de 120 años)
que se especializa en la hibridación de rosas.
'Iceberg' es un famoso ejemplo de un rosa
Kordes. Ellos fueron uno de los primeros viveros
dejar de fumigar sus campos de prueba y por lo
tanto han hecho grandes avances en la resistencia a las enfermedades de sus rosas.
LANDSCAPE (PAISAJE):
Este tipo de rosa fue desarrollado principalmente para la plantación ornamental en masa. Las
llamadas rosas "paisaje" se han desarrollado
para cumplir con el deseo del consumidor, una
rosa de jardín que ofrece color, forma y fragancia, y es de bajo mantenimiento y fácil de cuidar.
La mayoría cuenta con las siguientes características: hábito de crecimiento bajo, por lo general
menos de 60cm, reflorecientes; resistencia a
enfermedades y plagas; crece en sus propias
raíces, y no requiere mucha poda.
MAERCHEN ROSEN®:
Desde Kordes de Alemania, Märchen Rosen se
traduce como "Rosas de cuento de hadas" y es
la versión de la Rosa Inglesa, exuberante,
perfumada y refloreciente.
MEIDILAND:
Estas rosas provienen del famoso creador
francés Meilland, y se definen como de bajo
mantenimiento, resistentes, y floración
repetida. En definitiva, una rosa paisaje
perfecta. A menudo las rosas Meidiland se
abrazan tanto al suelo que ayudan al control de
la erosión.

OSO EASY ® y OSO HAPPY :
R
parte de la serie Proven Winners de los viveros
Srping Meadow (EE.UU.). Estas rosas son
desarrolladas por diferentes criadores, pero
todos ellos se distinguen porque crecen en sus
propias de raíces y son rosas paisaje de fácil
cuidado .
PATIO:
Un término más reciente (alrededor de 1996)
para describir una rosa que es pequeña y
compacta, refloreciente y adecuada para una
maceta en un patio o terraza, de ahí el nombre.
POULSEN:
A principios del siglo XX las Rosas Polyantha ya
eran populares, pero para mejorarlas aún más,
la familia danesa Poulsen cruzó algunas
Polyanthas con Te, creando de este modo, en
1924 , un nuevo grupo que se conoció como las
Poulsen Roses.
RENAISSANCE ®:
Poulsen es la versión danesa de las Rosas
Inglesas. Una rosa con la apariencia de las rosas
Antiguas con flores de aroma fuerte y floración
repetida.
ROMANTICA:
la respuesta de Francia a las rosas inglesas, las
Romántica se caracterizan por tener el encanto
de las rosas antiguas con la repetición de la

WEEK ROSES por Tom Carruth:
Tom Carruth fue el hibridador de rosas del
Vivero Week durante muchos años. Su gama de
rosas es amplia, desde arbustivas a trepadoras.
Todas responden muy bien en el jardín y
florecen desde la primavera hasta el otoño.
Algunos de los arbustos más grandes son
excelentes trepadores en los climas más cálidos.
OTHER TYPES OF ROSES
AUSTIN:
David Austin, the English rose breeder,
introduced his first creation, "Constance Spry'
in 1960 and since then has developed an
enormous collection of modern roses with the
look and scent of old European varieties and the
added benefit of repeat bloom. David Austin's
roses are often referred to as “English Roses”.
BERMUDA "MYSTERY" ROSES:
The term was first used by Peter Harkness when
he visited Bermuda in the late 70's. The term
refers to a number of cultivars, which have been
grown in Bermuda for many years – some since
the mid 1700's. Most of these roses are thought
to be Old Garden Rose cultivars that have
otherwise dropped out of cultivation, or sports
thereof. They are "mystery roses" because their
"proper" historical names have been lost.
Tradition dictates that they are named after the
owner of the garden where they were
rediscovered. Efforts have been undertaken to
document and preserve these roses and to
identify them when it is suspected that they are
varieties imported years ago under longforgotten names. The roses have significant
value and interest for those growing roses in
tropical and semi-tropical regions, since they
are highly resistant to both nematode damage
and the fungal diseases that plague rose culture
in hot, humid areas. They are also capable of
thriving in hot and humid weather.
BILTMORE GARDEN ROSE
COLLECTION:
This collection is being assembled from garden
roses all over the world that are currently not
offered in North America. A multitude of rose
breeders are contributing roses in a range of
growth habits, sizes and colors. The common

themes among them are disease resistance,
fragrance and ease of care.
BUCK:
As in Dr. Griffith Buck, the hybridizer who made
it his mission to create roses that could survive a
harsh northern winter and could do with little
spaying and watering. The modern shrub rose
'Carefree Beauty' is by far his most successful
rose to date. It is also an “Earth Kind™” rose.
CANADIAN HARDY:
Two main lines of roses were developed for the
extreme weather conditions of Canadian
winters by Agriculture Canada. They are called
the Explorer series and the Parkland series.
These programs have now been discontinued;
the remaining plant stock has been taken over
by private breeders. These plants are extremely
tolerant of cold weather, some down to -35C.
All have repeat bloom. A wide diversity of forms
and colors were achieved.
DELBARD:
A recent collection of highly perfumed shrubs
and climbers from Delbard Breeders of France.
DRIFT:
Landscape roses marketed through Conard
Pyle, USA, (various hybridizers) and are a cross
between groundcover and miniature roses.
Touted as being disease/pest resistant and
winter hardy with consistent bloom.
EARTH KIND®:
Earth Kind is a registered trademark associated
with rose cultivars that were field tested by the
Texas AgriLife Extension Service. To receive
the status of being an Earth Kind rose, they must
demonstrate superior performance without
chemical or physical interventions such as:
drought and poor soil tolerance and pest and
disease resistance.
EASY ELEGANCE:
Collection from Bailey Nurseries is a series of
shrub roses bred by Ping Lim. Compact in
nature, they offer a broad range of color and
bloom shape and excellent disease resistance
and hardiness.
ENGLISH LEGEND®:
A group of roses from the Harkness family of
England. They have won many awards
throughout the world and have been marketed
in France and Germany as “English Legend”
roses for several years. Most are wonderfully
fragrant with a number of different perfumes
and are long-lasting as cut blooms. The “English
Legend Roses™” fall somewhere between the
'English Roses' and the 'Romantica's'. Their
main features are a wider range of colors than
either of the other groups of rose bushes. They
tend to have more fragrance than the
'Romanticas' and are a much more compact
rose bush than most of the David Austin®
English Rose introductions
EXPLORER: see CANADIAN HARDY
FLOWER CARPET®:
Sometimes referred to as “groundcover roses”
Flower Carpets are incredibly robust: winter
hardy, disease and pest resistant as well as free
flowering. Bred by Reinhard Noack of
Germany, not all Flower Carpet roses share the
same relations and therefore may not look
anything like the other. However, they all bear
the same durable characteristics. The “Next
Generation” series that includes: 'Scarlet',
'Amber' and 'Pink Supreme' have improved
heat/humidity and disease tolerance.
FOUND:
A rose that has been discovered and not yet
identified. They will take a temporary name
reflecting the location from where it was
discovered. They are usually given study names
in double inverted commas. In Australia they are
denoted by ROR (renamed old rose) after the
study name.
GENEROSA:
These are very full, old fashion type roses that
are being created by the French firm Guillot.
Their main purpose is to bring back the beauty
and strong fragrance of yesterday's roses with
modern repeat bloom.
GROUND COVER ROSES:
The late 1980's witnessed the advent of genuine
low-growing ground cover Roses, specialty bred
to spread without gaining height. Incidentally,
these make wonderful hanging basket displays.
HERITAGE ROSES:
Roses originating in the nineteenth century or
earlier and roses with particular historic,
educational, or genetic value.
KNOCK OUT®:
Introduced in 2000 by Bill Radler, Knock Out
won the prestigious All American Rose Award
the very first year of distribution, and has since
sold by the millions and continues to do so. They
are incredibly reliable, hardy, disease resistant
and a good gateway drug to growing other
roses.
KORDES:
A German company (over 120 years old)
specializing in rose hybridization. 'Iceberg' is a
famous example of a Kordes rose. They were
one of the first nurseries to stop spaying their
test fields and consequently have made great
strides in the disease resistance of their roses.
LANDSCAPE:
This type of rose was developed mainly for mass
amenity planting. So-called "landscape" roses
have thus been developed to fill the consumer
desire for a garden rose that offers color, form
and fragrance, but is also low maintenance and
easy to care for. Most have the following
characteristics: Lower growing habit, usually
under 60 cm (24 inches); Repeat flowering;
Disease and pest resistance; Growing on their
own roots; Minimal pruning requirements.
MAERCHEN® ROSEN:
From Kordes & Sons of Germany, Märchen
Rosen translates to “Fairy Tale Roses” and is
their version of the “English” rose–lush, full,
scented blossoms with repeat bloom.
MEIDILAND:
These roses come from the famous French
breeder, Meilland, and are defined as lowmaintenance, rugged, and repeat blooming. In
short, a perfect landscape rose. Often Meidiland
roses are ground hugging and make for good
erosion control.
OSO EASY® and OSO HAPPY TM:
R
Part of the Proven Winners from Srping
Meadow Nursery (USA) these roses are
developed by different breeders, but they all
share the distinction that they are own-root,
easy care landscape roses.
PATIO:
A more recent (circa 1996) term to describe a
rose that is small, compact, free flowering and
suitable for a container on a patio or terrace,
hence the name.
POULSEN ROSES:
By the early twentieth century the Polyantha
Roses were already popular; but to improve

them still further, the Danish Poulsen family
crossed some Polyanthas with Teas, thus
creating, in 1924, a new group that became
known as the Poulsen Roses.
RENAISSANCE® ROSES:
Poulsen of Denmark's version of the “English
Rose.” An Old Garden rose appearance with
strongly scented blossoms and repeat blooms.
ROMANTICA:
France's answer to the English roses,
Romanticas are characterized as having Old
Garden rose charm with repeat bloom. The
term was coined by the French company which
introduced them, Meilland.
SIMPLICITY:
From the powerhouse that is Jackson & Perkins
came Simplicity roses that are marketed as great
plant-it-and-forget-it hedge rose. Simplicity
roses have been in cultivation for about 18
years.
WEEK ROSES by Tom Carruth:
Tom Carruth was the rose breeder for Weeks
Roses for many years. His range of roses is
broad, from shrubs to climbers. All respond
nicely to good garden maintenance and bloom
from spring to fall. Some of the larger shrubs
make excellent climbers in warmer climates.
HABLANDO DE PETALOS
Los pétalos de rosa llamados "hojas" en muchas recetas antiguas contienen aceites
volátiles perfumados y colorantes naturales. El perfume de la rosa es considerado un
sedante que trae armonía a la mente e incita a la meditación y al sueño. Es empleado en
aromaterapia para reducir el temor aumentar la vitalidad.
Cada variedad contiene su perfume propio y diferente, debido a distintas combinaciones de aceites aromáticos en sus pétalos lo cual permite que la mayoría de las personas
encuentren alguna rosa que les guste para utilizar en la cocina.
Al recolectar pétalos con fines culinarios conviene hacerlo de mañana cuando la rosa
recién se esta abriendo. Así tendrán el máximo de aceite perfumado todavía intacto.
Lavar los pétalos y secarlos en escurridor de ensaladas o secar con un repasador.
(Importante: Sólo utilizar rosas orgánicas, que no han sido pulverizadas!)
Pétalos o Pimpollos en hielo
Llenar una cubetera a la mitad con agua o limonada y congelar. Luego colocar los
pétalos (ej. "Louis Philippe") o pequeños pimpollos (ej. "Cécile Brünner" o "Bloomfield
Abbundance") sobre los medios cubitos y terminar de llenar con el líquido hasta el
borde, y volver a colocar la cubetera en el congelador. Estos cubitos decorados son
ideales para servir con té helado, etc.
Vinagre de Rosas
1 botella de vinagre de vino blanco
2 tazas de pétalos frescos perfumados
1 taza de pequeños pimpollos
Calentar el vinagre y echar sobre los pétalos en un frasco grande de vidrio. Dejar
reposar durante 2 semanas y luego colar y probar. Si el sabor a rosas no es suficiente,
repetir el proceso con pétalos frescos. Llenar un frasco o botella decorativa con los
pequeños pimpollos y verter el vinagre de rosas encima.
Muy bonito de aspecto. Este vinagre se conserva por bastante tiempo. Se puede utilizar
en aderezos para ensaladas, para carnes frías y ensaladas de mariscos. Los pimpollitos
también se pueden agregar a la ensalada o carne y ser comidos como alcaparras.

TALKING ABOUT PETALS
Rose petals sometimes called “leaves” in old cooking recipes contain natural volatile
perfumed oils. The rose scent is considered a sedative that brings harmony to the mind
and induced meditation and sleep. It is used in aromatherapy to reduce fear and to
increase vitality.
Each variety has its own distinct scent, due to different combinations of aromatic oils in its
petals that allows most people to find a specific rose to use in the kitchen.
When picking petals for culinary purposes it´s best to do so early in the morning when the
rose is about to open. This way the scented oils will be at their maximum and still intact.
Wash the petals and dry them in a salad squeegee or kitchen cloth.
(Important: Use only organic roses that have not been sprayed!)
Petals o Rosebuds on ice
Fill half an ice cube container with water or lemonade and freeze. Then place the petals
(i.e. “Louis Philippe”) or small buds (i.e. “Cécile Brünner” or “Bloomfield Abundance”)
over the half cubes and finish filling with the liquid to the rim and return the ice cube tray
to the freezer.. These decorated cubes are ideal for serving iced tea, etc.
Rose Vinegar
1 bottle of white wine vinegar
2 cups of fresh perfumed rose petals
1 cup of small rose buds
Heat the vinegar and pour over the petals in a large glass jar, Let stand for 2 weeks and
them strain and taste. If the rose flavour is not strong enough repeat the process with
fresh new petals. Fill a jar or decorative bottle with small buds
and pour the rose vinegar over.
Very nice looking, this vinegar lasts for a long time. It can be used in salad dressings for
cold meats and seafood salads. The rosebuds can be added to salads or meats and be
eaten like capers.
