La Epifanía del Señor
6 de enero de 2013
Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! Your light has come,
the glory of the Lord shines upon you.
— Isaiah 60:1
a nuestra iglesia.
nueva vida. Como ellos, regresamos a
casa por una nueva ruta.
Se nos pide terminemos esta
temporada festiva renovados y consientes
The splendid magi, all sparkle and dash and solemnity,
march right up off the pages of Matthew’s Gospel and into our
churches today. Matthew alone tells us this grand and seductive
story so that we might see the light and know that the child these
magi visited is the fulfillment of prophecy, the king of the world
that stretches to the magi’s home country and beyond, right down
the ages to us.
We too see and understand
anew. Like the magi, our patron saints
for this day, we see in the newborn
child the king of the universe and light
of the world. Like the magi, we find in
ourselves a new faith and a new life.
Like them, we return to our home by a
new route.
We are asked to come away
from this festive season ourselves renewed and awake to the presence of
God among us. We are asked to find
God where God is to be found, to be
attentive and surprised and ready to
bow down in adoration and to offer
our gifts.

Dear Baby Jesus,
Querido Niñito Jesús:
Quickly come down to earth. You will bring joy to children. Also bring me joy. I
would like a Volks-Schott, green clothing for Mass and a heart of Jesus. I will
always be good.
Greetings from Joseph Ratzinger
Saludos de José Ratzinger.
The first thing the Pope wanted was a Schott, one of the first prayer books with
the missal in German and a parallel text in Latin. At the time there were two
editions in the country, one for adults and one for children. But little Joseph also
asked for “green clothing for Mass.” The Pope and his brothers used to play the
“game of the priest,” and their mother, a seamstress, would help them by making
clothes similar to those worn by priests, according to an “Inside the Vatican”
interview his brother, Monsignor George Ratzinger, gave a few years ago. He
also asked for a heart of Jesus, referring to an image of the Sacred Heart, which
his family was very devoted to.
How much are we willing to promote
vocations in our families like our Holy
Father’s family invested? If they had not
dedicated time as the Pope’s mother did,
we, our Church would have lost a priest,
a bishop, a wise man, a great man, a
future Saint...
http://www.ucatholic.com/catholic-articles/7-year-old
-joseph-ratzingers-christmas-letter-to-baby-jesus/

Jesus’ Visitors
Scholars do not consider Matthew’s report about the Magi who come to visit Jesus at his birth as historical fact. It is rather a rich,
traditional reflection upon Scripture, perhaps the story of Balaam in Numbers 22-24, intended to demonstrate that Gentile believers
are an integral part of God’s plan from the very beginning!
In Matthew’s story line, representatives from the nations to whom the risen Jesus sends his disciples (Matt 28:19) are already present
at the beginning of Jesus’ life (Matt 2:1-12).
Just as our ancestors in the Faith frequently reflected upon and interpreted their scriptures creatively to help them understand and
explain Jesus, so too did their Christian descendants throughout the ages continue that creative reflection upon Matthew’s story of
the Magi’s visit to the newborn Jesus.
In this latter process, the number of visitors (never mentioned by Matthew) varied from two (see the art in the Roman catacombs of
Sts. Peter and Marcellinus) to twelve (in some medieval Eastern lists).
Matthew’s mention of three gifts prompted the conclusion that there were three visitors.
Early on (end of the second century), these Magi, or astrologers/astronomers (these disciplines were not yet distinct), were elevated
to royalty.
A tradition dating from about A.D. 700 describes one of the visitors as “black-skinned and heavily bearded” and named Balthasar.

Learn Natural Family Planning —Natural Family Planning refers to natural, healthy, and morally acceptable methods of family planning recommended by the Catholic Church to
help couples achieve or postpone pregnancy. These methods use daily observations of signs and symptoms that reflect the hormonal changes within a woman's menstrual cycle.
Couples can learn how to interpret these in order to recognize the natural fertile and infertile phases of the cycle in order to achieve or avoid a pregnancy. This knowledge can be
applied to regular or irregular cycles. Natural Family Planning can be used during a woman's entire fertile years, even during periods of breastfeeding and pre-menopause.
Natural Family Planning allows married couples be one in body as well as one in heart and mind, because it allows for more time to communicate, more time to rekindle common interests, and more time to nurture feelings.
There are monthly instructions at St. Mary's at 10:00 am on Saturdays, on the last Saturday of the month in Our Lady of Guadalupe room. The instruction is FREE. Instructor:
Natalie Kigeral, RN,PHN. Any questions call 661/674-8827.
