Hello hockey fans,
The road to the 2018 Olympic Winter Games begins here in Valdemoro with the first
Olympic Qualification Preliminary Round.
We have some great hockey to look forward to, with teams from Europe and Asia
gathering in this central Spanish city to compete in what should be a hard-fought
contest.
It’s no guarantee that any of these nations will make it all the way to PyeongChang, however the national ice hockey teams of China, Iceland, Serbia, and Spain have made great strides in their individual hockey programs, and
should provide some great action on the ice.
I welcome each of the participating nations and I wish good luck to them all in this qualification round.

El camino hacia los Juegos Olímpicos de Invierno de 2018 se inicia aquí en Valdemoro con el primer Clasificatorio
Olímpico Ronda Preliminar.
Tenemos un gran hockey que esperar, con los equipos de Europa y Asia que se reúnen en esta céntrica ciudad
española para competir en lo que debería ser una competición muy reñida.
No es ninguna garantía de que estas naciones lleguen a su destino final de Pyeongchang, sin embargo, los equipos nacionales de hockey sobre hielo de China, Islandia, Serbia y España han hecho grandes avances en sus
programas de habilidades individuales de hockey hielo, y ofrecerán un gran espectáculo en el hielo.
Doy la bienvenida a cada uno de los países participantes y les deseo buena suerte a todos en esta ronda de
clasificación.

Dear Friends,
We are delighted and honoured to host the Olympic Qualification Preliminary Round
in the city of Valdemoro, Comunidad de Madrid, Spain being the first time in our History that we host such Men’s event since March 10th, 1923 when we became official
members of the IIHF although Spain did not start to participate in regular Championships til 1977 in Copenhaguen, Denmark .
I wish to extend a warm welcome to all participating Member National Federations
of the IIHF such as Serbia, Iceland, China and the host nation Spain, Game officials
and Players , as well as National and International Institutions who will be present during this event and welcome
you all to Valdemoro, Spain.
In a fast changing World we all look for a close partnership between Countries and by doing it through our Ice
Sports and particularly with Ice Hockey, I couldn’t think of a better way of cooperation that can provide a positive
impact to our game and our society!
I wish to express to the all participants and fans a very successful event and that Fairplay and Respect prevail as
it has always been in our Sport of Ice Hockey and among our IIHF Family.
Apreciados Amigos,
Estamos entusiasmados y es un honor organizar la fase Preliminar del Clasificatorio Olímpico en la ciudad de
Valdemoro de la Comunidad de Madrid (España). Esta es la primera vez en nuestra historia que se organiza el
evento masculino olímpico desde que el día 10 de Marzo de 1923 nos convertimos oficialmente en miembros de
la Federación Internacional de Hockey Hielo (IIHF). Sin embargo, España no participó en Campeonatos Oficiales
hasta el Mundial de Copenhague, Dinamarca de 1977.
Deseo extender una bienvenida calurosa a todos los participantes de los Países miembros de la IIHF como son
Serbia, Islandia, China y al país organizador España, árbitros, jugadores y seguidores, así como a todas las
Instituciones Nacionales e Internacionales que estarán presentes durante el evento y les doy la bienvenida a
Valdemoro, España.
En un mundo cambiante todos buscamos una asociación entre países y efectuándolo mediante los Deportes de
Hielo y en concreto el Hockey Hielo, no puedo pensar en una mejor forma de cooperación que la de proveer un
impacto positivo a nuestros deporte y a nuestra sociedad!
Deseo expresar a todos los participantes y seguidores un gran evento y que el Juego Limpio y Respeto prevalezca
Como siempre ha sido en nuestro deporte del Hockey Hielo entre la familia de la IIHF.

During the 6th and 8th of November the city of Valdemoro, within the Autonomous
Community of Madrid, will host the first round of the Olympic Ice Hockey Qualification
Tournament. As President of the High Council for Sport, allows me to address in first
person to all the institutions and groups that have contributed to the organization of
this event, which is a real honor.
For this reason, I want to take this opportunity given to me to thank the enormous
efforts made by the Government of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, the City
Hall of Valdemoro, the Madrid Winter Sports Federation and the collaborating private entities in the organization
which will contribute to the extraordinary success of this event.
I would like to extend my appreciation to the Spanish Ice Sports Federation, which gradually has managed to
spread and encourage this sport, achieving significant international results.
This sporting event, which takes place in the magnificent Ice Pavilion of Valdemoro, with the participation of the
teams from China, Iceland, Serbia, along with the Spanish national team, which aims to achieve the qualification
for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
I wish to all athletes the best of luck, from the belief that the competition will develop into an excellent sports
atmosphere.
Entre los días 6 y 8 de noviembre la localidad madrileña de Valdemoro acogerá la primera ronda del Torneo PreOlímpico Clasificatorio de Hockey Hielo masculino (Grupo L). La Presidencia del Consejo Superior de Deportes
me permite dirigirme en primera persona a todas las entidades, instituciones y colectivos que han contribuido a
la organización de este evento deportivo, lo cual constituye un verdadero honor.
Por esta razón, quiero aprovechar la ocasión que se me brinda para agradecer el enorme esfuerzo realizado por
el Gobierno de la Comunidad de Madrid, el Ayuntamiento de Valdemoro, la Federación Madrileña de Deportes
de Invierno y las entidades privadas colaboradoras en la organización de este evento, lo cual contribuirá al extraordinario éxito de este acontecimiento deportivo.
Agradecimiento que quiero hacer extensivo y singularizar por su labor en la Federación Española de Deportes
de Hielo, que poco a poco ha logrado difundir y motivar la práctica de este deporte, consiguiendo resultados
significativos a nivel internacional.
Esta cita deportiva, que se disputará en el magnífico Pabellón de Hielo de Valdemoro, contará con la participación de los equipos de China, Islandia, Serbia, además de la selección española, que aspira a lograr la clasificación definitiva para los Juegos Olímpicos de Pyeongchang 2018.
Deseo a todos los deportistas participantes la mejor de las suertes, desde el convencimiento de que la competición se desarrollará dentro de un inmejorable ambiente deportivo.

It may be surprising to the general public that an Olympic Ice Hockey Qualification Tournament will be organized in Valdemoro (Madrid), but the implication of this
southern city of Madrid with ice sports is total. Proof of this is the campus that our
great champion skater, Javier Fernandez, prepares there, and the future creation of
an ice sports high performance centre in the municipality.
This Olympic Ice Hockey Qualification Tournament is an example of the commitment
of Valdemoro with some specialties which are setting roots in our country.
All hopes are with our representatives to achieve the qualification for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games. It would be the first time that Spain participates with a team of this specialty, which would be a historic event
for all. I am convinced that with the determined work of the president of the Spanish Federation, Frank Gonzalez,
and technical and athletes, this goal can be achieved someday.
Finally, I would like to thank the involvement and effort of the Spanish Ice Sports Federation, public institutions,
sponsors and teams who have made possible to celebrate this event, the sum of all of them will allow us to see
a great event.
Puede resultar sorprendente para el gran público que se celebre un Torneo Preolímpico de Hockey Hielo masculino en la localidad madrileña de Valdemoro, pero la implicación de esta ciudad del sur de Madrid con los deportes
de hielo es total. Prueba de ello son el campus que nuestro campeonísimo patinador, Javier Fernández, organiza
allí, y la futura creación de un centro de tecnificación de hielo en el municipio.
Este Torneo Preolímpico de Hockey Hielo Grupo L es una muestra más del compromiso de Valdemoro con unas
especialidades que van arraigando en nuestro país.
Todas las esperanzas están puestas en que nuestros representantes logren la clasificación para los Juegos
Olímpicos de Pyeongchang 2018. Sería la primera vez que España acude con un equipo de la especialidad, lo
que supondría un hecho histórico para todos. Estoy convencido de que con el trabajo decidido del presidente
de la Federación Español, Frank González, y de los técnicos y deportistas esta meta se puede lograr algún día.
Por último, y como es de rigor en estos casos, agradecer la implicación y el esfuerzo de la Federación Española
de Deportes de Hielo, de las instituciones públicas, los patrocinadores y los equipos participantes que han hecho
posible que se celebre este evento, la suma de todos nos va a permitir presenciar un gran espectáculo.

The Community of Madrid, a region committed to the promotion of sport, from grass
roots to high performance sport as we are delighted to host the organization of the
first round of the Olympic Ice Hockey Qualification Tournament. It is a pleasure, as
President of the Community of Madrid, to welcome all participants to this tournament
from China, Iceland, Serbia and our home country, Spain!
On behalf of the people of Madrid, I thank the International Ice Hockey Federation
and the Spanish Ice Sports Federation for the confidence in our region to support the
organization of this Olympic Tournament. We are very interested in promoting this sport as we have similar facilities such as the ice rink of Valdemoro, where the tournament will be held, in Majadahonda, Leganés and Boadilla
del Monte which are also prepare for the practice of the Ice sports at its highest demand.
I sincerely hope that the organization of this championship will contribute to the recruitment of our youth in our
community of Madrid, to the practice of this fascinating sport.
La Comunidad de Madrid, una región comprometida con el fomento de la práctica deportiva, desde el deporte
de base hasta el de alto rendimiento, está muy satisfecha de acoger la celebración del Torneo Pre-Olímpico
Clasificatorio de Hockey sobre Hielo. Es un placer, como presidenta de todos los madrileños, dar la bienvenida
a todos los participantes en este campeonato de primer nivel, de China, Islandia, Serbia y nuestro propio país,
España!
En nombre de los madrileños, agradezco a la Federación Internacional de Hockey Hielo y a la Federación Española de Deportes de Hielo la confianza depositada en nuestra Comunidad Autónoma para apoyar la organización
de este campeonato. Estamos muy interesados en promover la práctica de este deporte. Además de la pista de
hielo de Valdemoro, donde se celebra el torneo, contamos con instalaciones similares en Majadahonda, Leganés
y Boadilla del Monte, preparadas para la práctica deportiva de la más alta exigencia.
Espero sinceramente que la celebración de este campeonato contribuya a que más madrileños se acerquen a
este fascinante deporte.

A challenge and an opportunity. That is what hosting the Ice Hockey Olympic Qualifying Tournament means for Valdemoro: the challenge is participating in the organization of an event with international scope and the opportunity of turning the city
into an ice Sports leader. We eager to face both circumstances and appreciate the
trust of the Federation.
We feel proud that this event puts our Municipal Ice Rink Francisco Fernandez Ochoa
on the worldwide map. It is a great infrastructure that pays tribute to the only Spanish
that won a gold medal at a Winter Olympics, and now it has been honoured with the
presence of Javier Fernández, figure skating world champion and three-times european champion.
The reconditioning of this installation on the occasion of the tournament entails improvements that have been
incorporated into the sports heritage of citizenship. The kindness of Valdemoro people is a plus that joins the high
level of the rink and our hospitality sector, so I invite athletes and fans to know Valdemoro, monuments, parks and
gastronomy. For them it is an opportunity too and they can not miss it.
Un reto y una oportunidad. Eso supone para Valdemoro acoger el Preolímpico de hockey hielo: el reto de participar en la organización de un evento con proyección internacional y la oportunidad de hacer de la ciudad un
referente en deportes de hielo. Afrontamos con ilusión ambas circunstancias y agradecemos la confianza de la
Federación.
Nos enorgullece que esta cita dé a conocer nuestra Pista Municipal de Hielo Francisco Fernández Ochoa, una
instalación de primera magnitud que homenajea al único español que logró el oro en una olimpiada de invierno,
engrandecida ahora con la presencia de Javier Fernández, campeón del mundo y tricampeón europeo de patinaje artístico.
La puesta a punto de este equipamiento con motivo del clasificatorio conlleva mejoras que se han incorporado al
patrimonio deportivo de la ciudadanía. Al alto nivel de la pista y la hostelería se une la hospitalidad valdemoreña,
por eso invito a deportistas y aficionados a conocer Valdemoro, sus monumentos, parques y gastronomía. Para
ellos también es una oportunidad y no pueden desaprovecharla.
