►The author/illustrator:
Roser Capdevila (born in Barcelona, 1939) is a writer and children’s books illustrator.
She started drawing when she was a child herself and her work includes printmaking,
oil painting and watercolours. In 1980 she started writing and illustrating books, mostly
for children, while she continued to publish popular fiction books for both young and
adults. Moreover, since 1990, she has produced a series of cartoons of The Three
Baby Triplets. Her work has been translated from Catalan language into all main
European languages. In February 2010, she received the Golden Medal prize for
excellence in Fine Arts, given by the Spanish Council of Ministers and she was further
awarded with the Honours Medal from the Catalonian Parliament.

►The authors and illustrators:
Sergio Kern (born in Rosario, Argentina, 1954) worked as printer and typographer
designing poetry books. As a plastic artist he participated in painting exhibitions in the
Argentinean cities of Santa Fe, Entre Ríos and Córdoba and he also directed the comic
collection called 'Tinta'. In 1982 he settled in Barcelona, Spain, where he continued his
career as an illustrator. He currently lives in Buenos Aires, where he works as a poet,

comic designer, author and illustrator of children’s tales including Rafa y Zoe (Rafa &
Zoe), Vengo a comerte (I am coming to eat you), Había una vez una gata (Once upon
a time there was a cat), Había una vez un árbol (Once upon a time there was a tree),
¿Qué tal ratones? (How are you doing, mice?), Adriana y el árbol (Adriana and the
tree) and Un tigre de papel (A paper tiger).
Cristian Turdera was born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 1973. His work combines
illustration and design without drawing any separation line between the two disciplines.
Author of more than 20 published books, amongst them Canción decidida, with texts
from David Wapner, (Pequeño editor Argentina, 2003), La Reina Mab, El hada de las
pesadillas, based on texts from William Shakespeare adapted by Ruth Kaufman
(Pequeño editor, Argentina 2007) and Bobos and L´abecédaire des super-héros (The
super heroes alphabet), both with texts from Agnès de Lestrade, Éditions Milan, France
2008 and 2009, respectively. He currently works internationally for advertising
agencies, magazines, papers and publishing houses.

►The author:
Roberto Aliaga was born in Argamasilla de Alba (Ciudad Real, Spain) in 1976. He
graduated in biology, and began his career in children's literature in 2005 with the book
‘La oficina de objetos perdidos y encontrados’ (The Lost and Found Office). In 2008, in
collaboration with Roger Olmos, he won the Premio Lazarillo de Ålbum Infantil Ilustrado
for El príncipe de los enredos (The Prince of Tangles). His works have been translated
into several languages.
►The illustrator:
Carles Arbat was born and lives in Bescanó (Girona, Spain). He graduated in Graphics
Design and is a Multimedia Systems specialist. In 2000, he started his work as a
professional illustrator for several publishing houses (Hiperión, Kalandraka, Aljibe,
Brosquil, Edebé, Planeta&Oxford, etc.) and has illustrated children’s, teenagers’ and
adults’ books as well as textbooks and advertising material.

►The author:
A writer living between Spain and Argentina, Gabriela Keselman is one of the most
important Spanish language children's literature writers. She has published more than
30 children’s stories in magazines and more than 40 children’s books (some of them
translated into English, French, Japanese, Korean and Portuguese). Gabriela
Keselman has been awarded the most prestigious prizes of Spanish language
children’s literature.
►The illustrator:
Teresa Novoa was born, lives and works in Madrid, Spain. Teresa’s passion for
drawing began when she was studying Architecture. Since 1990, she has illustrated
children’s literature and text books. She has also collaborated on papers and has
illustrated poetry books for adults. She was also author of some of the children’s books
she illustrated, one of them published in Japan. She further collaborates with diverse
Spanish and International publishing houses in France, Germany, Mexico, Argentina,
Colombia, Japan, Korea and China), always illustrating books for children. She has
been awarded multiple prizes for her work such as the ‘Premio a la orilla del viento’, by
the Economic Culture fund of México) for “El pájaro y la princesa” (‘The bird and the
princess’). She has been appointed at “Ilustrísimos”, an exhibition organized by the
Spanish Ministry of Culture during the ‘XLII Children’s Book Fair’ in Bologna, Italy. She
was further awarded with the “White Raven” prestigious label at the ‘Internationale
Jugendbibliothek’ (International Youth Library) of München, Germany.

►The author:
Hans Christian Andersen (1805 -1875) is one of the most read authors in the world and
he is considered to be one of the fathers of children’s literature. As of 1858, Andersen
used to narrate with his own voice the fairy tales that made him famous world-wide. His
most famous tales were ‘The little match girl”, ‘The naked king’, and ‘The emperor’s
new clothes’.
►The author/illustrator:
Marta Vicente is a painter, engraver and illustrator. She was born and currently lives in
Argentina. She won the Mexican prize ‘Premio a la orilla del viento’ for illustrated
albums. She has published books in Mexico, Spain and Argentina.

►The author:
Victoria Pérez Escrivá (Valencia, 1964) graduated in Musical Education from the Royal
Conservatory of Music in Madrid, and subsequently studied literary analysis and
creation in the Madrid Writers' Workshop with Ángel Zapata. She has worked as a
scriptwriter on the televison series 'Los simuladores' or 'SMS'. As a writer (and
sometime illustrator), her work has been published by the most important companies in
Spain. She has produced two books with Anaya Infantil y Juvenil: "Ay!" (with
illustrations by Claudia Ranucci, 1st Prize for Illustrated Book, Ciudad de Alicante,
2004) and "Antes, cuando Venecia no existía" (2002). In 2010 she received 1st Prize in
the XXIX Vila d'Ibi Children's Fiction Contest with her book "Cuando mi hermano se
subió a un armario".
►The illustrator:
Lucía Serrano is a young illustrator who has been awarded several prizes for her work,
amongst which the ‘Princesa de Éboli’ prize for her illustrated album "El día que olvidé
cerrar el grifo", (‘The day I forgot to close the tap’) and First Mexican prize "A la orilla
del viento", organized by the Economic Cultural Fund.

►The author:
Maria Victoria Rodríguez Salido is 33 years old and has a degree in Architecture. She
won a prize for her writing at the age of eleven. After publishing La Presa (1998) and
Querida Ondina (2001), she joined publishing house Hidra, where she started writing
the children’s collection “Luna Moon”, aimed at girls between 6 and 12 years old. The
first titles of this collection are: “Mi amigo Hugo“and “Equipo ganador”.
►The illustrator:
Dolores Okecki is an Argentinean illustrator and digital animator. She loves and
specializes in sequential art.
She has done children’s book and magazines illustrations, storyboards (both for

advertising and production), comics, character design, texture mapping, concept art
and digital animation (both 2D and 3D). Her style is genuine and oriented to cartoon
aesthetics, combining the use of digital media.

►Synopsis:

►The author:
Jorge Bucay was born and grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, into a family with
Jewish and Arab roots. He studied medicine and psychology and worked from the age
of 13 at many jobs: from taxi driver to clown and street seller. He has published over 20
successful books, which have been translated into more than 20 languages, including
English, Chinese, Polish, Greek, Russian and Hebrew.
►The illustrator:
Gusti was born in Buenos Aires ‘with a pencil under his arm’, according to his mother.
In 1985, he travelled to Europe and he has lived since then in Barcelona, where he has
become a well-respected illustrator. He has been awarded many prizes, but the most
important one of all is being able to do what he really loves. In Océano Travesía he
published Basurarte, Nino el rey de todo el mundo and, in collaboration with Jorge
Bucay, El elefante encadenado.

►Synopsis
On his birthday, a boy receives a set of 25 toy soldiers and arrays them on a table top.
One soldier stands on a single leg, having been the last one cast from an old tin spoon.
Nearby, he spies a paper ballerina with a spangle on her sash. She too is standing on
one leg and the soldier falls in love. That night, a goblin among the toys angrily warns
the soldier to take his eyes off the ballerina, but the soldier ignores him. The next day,
the soldier falls from a windowsill (presumably the work of the goblin) and lands in the
street. Two boys find the soldier, place him in a paper boat, and set him sailing in the
gutter. The boat and its passenger wash into a storm drain, where a rat demands the
soldier pay a toll. Sailing on, the boat is washed into a canal, where the tin soldier is
swallowed by a fish. When the fish is caught and cut open, the tin soldier finds himself
once again on the table top before the ballerina. Inexplicably, the boy throws the tin
soldier into the fire. A wind blows the ballerina into the fire with him; she is consumed at
once but her spangle remains. The tin soldier melts into the shape of a heart.
►The author:
Julia San Miguel Martos was born in Madrid in 1965. She graduated in Hispanic Philology
and received a Doctorate in Latin American Literature and Literature Workshops. She
coordinates the proof-reading department at SM publishing house and collaborates in
specialized publications such ‘Bornova’. Her work has received several prizes. She has
published the novel “Valderas” and several children’s fairy tales, among them the
remarkable “El monstruo de Ricardo” (‘The monster of Ricardo’), published by Kalandraka
in Spanish and Galician languages, and illustrated by Rocío Martínez.
►The illustrator:
Tsou began drawing at a very early stage in her life, but began illustrating
professionally four years ago. Her most important cultural influences are traditional
Indian ink paintings, Japanese comics and street art. In 2009 she completed a Master’s
in Communication, Art and Design at the Royal College of Art in London, where she
currently lives. Most notable among her work are the nearly 3,000 drawings she did on
people’s necks. The result of this work was an exhibition in one of London’s smallest
barber shops, Badlambs & Sons. Page Tsou has twice taken part in the Illustrators’
Exhibition at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair (in 2008 and 2010).

►The author:
Pau Joan Hernández was born in Barcelona in 1967 and currently lives in Bigues i
Riells. He began to dedicate himself to literature at an early age, and at eighteen years
old his first children's novel was published: ”Tot et serà pres" is a realist work which
looks at the topic of euthanasia, and with more than twenty eight editions, it has
become his biggest success. Later, however, his work evolved more along the lines of
fantasy fiction, or fiction which combines fantasy and reality. He currently combines
literary creation with literary criticism in the pages of the Catalan newspaper "Avui", and
translations from Castilian, Basque, French and Galician into Catalan language.
►The illustrator:
Fernando Vicente Sánchez is a Spanish painter and illustrator born in Madrid in
November 1963. A self-taught person, his first works as illustrator were published in the
early 80s in the magazine Madriz and La luna de Madrid. After that, he stopped
working as an illustrator for 10 years and his core professional activity evolved in the
advertising sector working as Art Director for several agencies. From 1999, he went
back to the world of illustration, working regularly for the national paper El País and its
various supplements, such the cultural supplement “Babelia”. He won three main prizes
such as the Award of Excellence given by the Society for News Design. Next to his
work for the daily press and magazines, he has illustrated a number of books and has
created several book and album covers.

►The author/illustrator:
Mireia Pérez Plaza is a Spanish writer and illustrator born in Valencia in 1984. During
her childhood, Mireia Pérez read Mafalda and several issues of Super Humor and ‘El
Jueves’ which belonged to her family. As an adolescent, she discovered manga,
European comic and alternative American comic. In 2003, she began to study Fine Arts
at the San Carlos University of Valencia, majoring in cinematography and drawing. In
2008, thanks to an Erasmus Grant in Angoulême, she started her career as comic
writer. Since then she has collaborated with magazines such "El Manglar" and "El
Jueves". In 2010 she won the Injuve Comic and Illustration prize and in 2011, the
International Prize Fnac-Sins Entido for Graphic Novel with ‘Nómada’ the first part of
“La muchacha salvaje”.

BLUE JEANS, pseudonym of Francisco de Paula Fernández, was born in Sevilla and
works currently in Madrid. He is one of the Spanish authors with the highest number of
fans in the social media.
Educated in journalism, he became popular thanks to the trilogy “Canciones para
Paula”, which sold more than 300.000 copies and has been translated into several
languages.

covers many different styles and his books are mandatory reading at Spanish and Latin
American schools. He is a great expert and communicator in the educational field. He
has been awarded with almost twenty Literature prizes. He commits to tell and describe
what he sees and feels during all his constant travelling around the world. Travelling is
his inspiration source and nurtures him with the energy he transmits to his characters
and novels.
The quality of his enormous work, with more than 300 titles and translations into 25
languages has been recognized on numerous occasions, receiving prizes such as the
National Childrens’ and Teenagers Literature Prize in 2007.

►The author:
Seve Calleja was born in Zamora, Spain, in 1953. He has lived in the Basque Country
since his childhood and works as Language and Literature lecturer at the Miguel de
Unamuno Institute of Bilbao. His early works were focused on poetry and tales for
adults. He began to be part of the poetry group 'Zurgai' and obtained the "Ignacio
Aldecoa" prize in 1981. To date, he is devoted to writing for children for teenagers, the
specialized literature field to which he dedicates most of his time and effort. Among his
studies about Children and Teenager Literature, is his very remarkable book of tales
written in Basque language, which was first published in Spanish under the title
Literatura infantil vasca (‘Basque Children’s Literature’). He also published many
classic traditional fairy tales of African, Latin American and gipsy origin, which have
been further translated, with his help, into both Spanish and Basque languages.
►The illustrator:
The town of Valladolid saw Raúl Allen grow up, come and go. While in Salamanca he
graduated in Fine Arts. Later he moved to Boston to study Illustration and Design. He
currently lives in Spain. He’s been always searching for a way to see the inside and
outside of things, to the extreme of sleeping with his eyes open.
His work has been selected and awarded by the Society of Illustrators of New York 49th
Annual Exhibition, Illustration West 43, 3 x 3 Magazine of Contemporary Illustration and
The National Drawing Award Gregorio Prieto among many others. His work has been
exhibited in New York, Madrid, Boston and Barcelona.

►The author:
Fernando Argenta played in a rock music band, graduated in Law and followed Music
Studies at the Royal Music Conservatory of Madrid. He has made programmes in
Spain such as Clásicos Populares and El Conciertazo for which he has received
numerous prizes, honours and awards. In addition, in the last 30 years he has
organized, presented and directed popular concerts and concerts for children across
Spain. He has also written several books about Music.
►The illustrator:
Jvlivs graduated in Advertising. After starting his career in the world of advertising, in a
moment of madness, he switched to graphic humour. He has published his drawings in
El Mundo national newspaper and in El Jueves magazine. As an illustrator he already
has a portfolio of 12 fully illustrated books.
