Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and
earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord
Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father
before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God
from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the
Father; through him all things were made; For us men and for
our salvation he came down from heaven,
(all bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin
Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered
death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in
accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and
is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in
glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will
have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of
life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the
Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken
through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and
apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of
sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the
life of the world to come. Amen.

la Virgen, y se hizo hombre;
Y por nuestra causa fue crucificado en tiempos de Poncio Pilato;

(Estribillo)

Bergoglio IX
In 1960 he entered Colegio Máximo, an hour’s drive from Buenos Aires; it would be his base for the next 23 years. Initially he
was there to study, but after receiving his “minor orders” on his journey to the priesthood, he entered upon the Jesuit required
“regency” in which he taught Spanish Literature at a prestigious secondary school in Buenos Aires, La Inmaculada. Students
responded well to the future Pope, and as they do, they nicknamed him in Argentine slang “Carucha” – meaning “long face,”
because of his mournful expression. You can still see that expression on his face when he is at rest or praying. The 2nd Vatican
Council took place during this time, and as happened in the US so in Argentina: the Church underwent profound changes. Many
Latin American priests got involved in political revolution using Marxist ideology to string their ideas together. In contrast Jorge
clung to the idea of “reform” rather than “rupture” or revolution. By the time he was ordained a priest on Dec. 13, 1969, only a
couple of his fellow novices remained, most having left the order to marry or join the social struggle or both. Jorge then was sent
to Spain in preparation for “final vows” focusing on the “Spiritual exercises” of St. Ignatius of Loyola. At the end of that year, he
took his final vows including the simple vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, and a fourth vow peculiar to Jesuits “special
obedience to the Pope.” IHM pray for us, Fr. Jerry
Bergoglio IX
