TRIGESIMO DOMINGO EN TIEMPO ORDINARIO
From the Pastor’s Desk
“You should love the Lord, your God, with all your heart,
with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This
commandment, described by our Lord in today’s Gospel as
the “Greatest and first commandment,” is a fitting mission
statement for every Christian on the face of the earth. This
commandment might lead one to imagine millions of
isolated Christians with their eyes turned upward in a kind
of love trance toward the Lord. To make sense of this great
commandment, we must link to the second: “You shall love
your neighbor as yourself.” With the two commandments at
hand, we can now imagine these millions of Christians
showing their love of God not in transfixed isolation but
through their love of neighbor. Look for hints to what “love
of neighbor” requires in today’s first and second reading.
Trigésimo domingo del tiempo ordinario
“Amarás al Señor tu Dios, con todo tu corazón, con toda tu
alma y con toda tu mente.” Este mandamiento, descrito por
el Señor en el evangelio de hoy, es el primero y el más
grande de los sacramentos, es una declaración y una
misión que seguimos todos los cristianos en la faz de la
tierra. Este mandamiento nos puede hacer pensar en
muchos cristianos que viven ellos mismos con una idea
equivocada de Dios “viviendo en las nubes”, y para poder
hacer válido éste mandamiento debemos relacionarlo con
el segundo: “amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.” Con
éstos dos mandamientos podemos imaginar millones de
cristianos mostrando su amor a Dios poniéndolo en
práctica con el necesitado.

CHRIST THE KING ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
Christ the King Roman Catholic Church will sponsor an All Souls’ Day Concert,
Sunday, November 2, 2008, 5:00 p.m. Christ the King Singers and Dallas String
Quartet (Quintet) join forces in a performance of selections from Bach’s motet
“Jesu, meine freude”, scored for mixed chorus and continuo; and Max Reger’s
cantata “O wie selig seid ihr doch, ihr Frommen”. “O wie selig” is scored for
soprano, mixed choir, string quintet and organ. Christopher Anderson, Ph.D,
German Romantic scholar and Associate Professor of Sacred Music at Perkins
School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, will conduct the Bach
and Reger. In addition, Henry McDowell, Director of Music/Organist at Christ the
King will conduct motets by Bruckner, Mozart, Fauré, Cherwein, and Manz. The
concert will conclude with arrangements of spirituals by African American
composers Moses Hogan and Hall Johnson. Featured soloists are Lucy TamezCreech, soprano, and David Grogan, baritone. The concert is free and open to
