APRIL 27, 2014
Well known American actor Anna Julian has played in a few famous movies. In March 1985 during her gym exercises, she noticed a bump on her body. After seeing this she was not only shocked but also terrified thinking it could be a tumor. The next day
before the doctor’s appointment, she went to say a short prayer in the church. When she was walking in, she saw the words that
were written above the door. She had never before paid attention to them. These words were written: “The same good and merciful God, who cares for you today, will take care of you tomorrow and every day”. God turns suffering back from you, or gives
you the power to survive it. That is why you become calm and you release fear, timidity and anxiety.
After reading those words Anna realized that they spoke to her. She knelt and began to pray, to take those words as they are intended. When she was praying a deep and internal peace overcame her heart. Two weeks later, she went through the surgery
and was lucky that the tumor was removed. After the recovery she began to help people who were sick with cancer.
The history of this actor reflects what happened in today’s gospel. The apostle Thomas didn’t remember all the positive and fabulous events, which he had been experiencing during the 3 years when he was with Jesus. He didn’t remember His teachings, His
miracles; the healing of the sick, the raising of the dead, the multiplication of bread, the subsiding of the storm… He remembered everything what was the most tragic; the last day’s events, the passion and the death of Jesus on the cross. Thomas said
to the Apostles who saw the resurrected Jesus; “I will not believe it until I see the nail marks in His hands and put my hand into
His side”. After eight days the resurrected Jesus appeared to the Apostles again and Thomas was with them. Thomas received
from Jesus a chance to test what he desired. Jesus said to him; put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand here in
my side. Stop being an unbeliever and believe”.
The same words “…stop being an unbeliever and believe…” Jesus could say to each one of us. We also have short memories.
We declare our faith in God when everything is going well, when we are happy and glad. In the moment when problems and
crosses appear, our trust and faith in God disappear.
How much God cares for us is revealed in the words of Jesus manifested to Sister Faustino Kowalska, the apostle of God’s mercy;
“…untrusting souls break the heart of mine, in spite of my inexhaustible love - they do not believe me, even my death is not
enough for them.” How those words of revelation match today’s Gospel in which Jesus admonished Thomas in the words; “you
believe because you see me. Those who believe without seeing me will be truly blessed.”
We are remembering today the feast of God’s mercy and let’s ask ourselves; do we try to believe and trust in God in every moment of our lives? Do we trust and believe in God specially when it’s tough and we have to face problems and unhappiness.
Do not be unbelievers. Do not lose trust in God’s infinite mercy. Let’s pray often: “Lord I trust in You.“
Our merciful God looks at us with love. So we should answer to His love for us with our love. Let’s finish our reflection with the
words which Anna Jillian read above the door in the church; “The same good and merciful God, who cares for you today, will take
care of you tomorrow and every day”. God turns suffering back from you, or gives you the power to survive it. That is why you
become calm and you release fear, timidity and trust in God.

DIOCESAN SERVICES APPEAL
The 2014 Diocesan Services Appeal recently
launched in parishes across the Diocese of
Palm Beach. There are many ministries and
programs supported by this annual appeal.
Because of the DSA, and your generosity, the
Diocese can continue to support the many
aspects of our larger Church, including the
53 parishes and missions, and our 19 schools.
The DSA is the primary source of funding for
the Diocese, providing more than 70 percent
of the annual operating income. The strength
of our diocese comes from us recognizing
God’s gifts and sharing a portion of these gifts
for building up the Kingdom of God. Please
contribute to the Diocesan Services Appeal
and help us meet our Parish Goal.
As you all know, implementation of Our Journey Forward Strategic Plan has
gradually started. This implementation of our Plan will require the collaboration
of many parishioners with the Seven Goal Champion Teams. In this bulletin you will notice a Journey Forward Goal number next to every event, task or program
that points-out a pertinence to one of St. Joan of Arc’s Goals:
GROW IN LOVE
SPREAD THE GOSPEL
GROW IN SERVICE
GROW OUR RESOURCES
GROW IN FAITH
GROW OUR SCHOOL
GROW THE CHURCH
Please consider your role in working with Ministry Leaders, parish staff and
many of your fellow parishioners to create a future that will be energized
by the Holy Spirit and responsive to God's will.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY CELEBRATION!
This year’s celebration is extra special because the late Pope John Paul II who
declared that every Second Sunday of Easter is Divine Mercy Sunday will be canonized
on April 27, 2014, together with Blessed Pope John XXIII.
Please join us this Sunday, April 27 at our Parish Church at 2:30 p.m. We will begin
with the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, pray the Holy Rosary, read a passage
from The Diary of Sister Faustina, have a Short Reflection, Sing the Chaplet of Divine
Mercy and end with Holy Benediction.
Invite all your family members to join us in celebrating this grace-filled annual Divine
Mercy Sunday to honor the newly canonized great Saints. There will be a Pot Luck
Reception to follow in Mercy Center.
May St. Pope John Paul II, St. Pope John XXIII and St. Mary Faustina protect and
intercede on our behalf. Amen!
“Christ, make me become and remain the servant of your unique power, the servant
of your sweet power, the servant of your power that knows no eventide. Make me be
a servant. Indeed, the servant of your servants.” Saint Pope John Paul II
- Father Jimmy B. Hababag
SPECIAL THANK YOU FOR IMPROVEMENTS AT THE ARK!
Our ministries house The Ark now has added wireless
internet, a 6 ft. fence in the back yard, and some art
work as well including a mural in the kitchen and a
wall of saints. We’d like to thank in a very special
way our donors, William and Kathy Kerins, whose
generosity made these developments possible.
We'd also like to thank an anonymous benefactor
who made possible the purchase two new plastic
picnic tables for the patio at the Ark. These tables
are used when any of the ministries use the back
yard of the Ark, especially the Mommy and Me and
Youth group.
These are great additions to our patio
at the Ark.

TWO POPES WHO LOVED CHILDREN
Dear Children,
We all like surprises! Today the Church will name
two new Saints. Both were Popes, that is leaders of the
Church. One was John XXIII and the other John Paul
II. You may be familiar with Pope John Paul II and
seen him in T.V. Pope John XXIII may not be as familiar because he went with God before many of you
were born.
Today I invite you to learn a bit more about our
new Saints. Perhaps some Confirmation students may
want to consider getting the name of one of these new
Saints as your confirmation name.
Here are some ways in which you may be similar
to these two holy men
When John XXIII was your age, he
• was called Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli
• lived in Italy
• grew up on a farm
• had 6 brothers and 6 sisters
• prayed every day
• went to Mass on Sunday
• studied hard at school
• liked to joke and laugh
• liked spending time with other people
• loved God
• looked at the positive side of things
• helped other people because he loved Jesus
6 l ST. JOAN OF ARC l APRIL 27
When Pope John Paul II was your age, he
• Was called Karol Jozef Wojtyla
• Lived in Poland
• Grew up in the city of Wadowice
• Has an older brother and an older sister
• Loved sports specially soccer
• Loved to study
• Played the position of goalkeeper
• Was an altar server and served in early mass
• Loved to hike up mountains
• Was an actor
• Attended daily mass
• Learned as many as 13 languages
Today we invite you to thank God for giving us these
holy men

SAINT OF THE DAY
ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER
Feast Day was May 1, 2014
Catholic saints are holy people and human
people who lived extraordinary lives. Each saint
the Church honors responded to God's invitation
to use his or her unique gifts. God calls each
one of us to be a saint.
St. Joseph has two feast days on the liturgical
calendar. The first is March 19—Joseph, the
Husband of Mary. The second is May 1—
Joseph, the Worker.
“Saint Joseph is a man of great spirit. He is
great in faith, not because he speaks his own
words, but above all because he listens to the
words of the Living God. He listens in silence.
And his heart ceaselessly perseveres in the
readiness to accept the Truth contained in the
word of the Living God,” Pope John Paul II had
once said.
There is very little about the life of Joseph
in Scripture but still, we know that he was the
chaste husband of Mary, the foster father of
Jesus, a carpenter and a man who was not
wealthy. We also know that he came from the
royal lineage of King David.
We can see from his actions in scripture
that Joseph was a compassionate man, and
obedient to the will of God. He also loved
Mary and Jesus and wanted to protect and
provide for them.
Since Joseph does not appear in Jesus'
public life, at his death, or resurrection, many
historians believe Joseph had probably died
before Jesus entered public ministry.
Joseph is the patron of many things, including the universal Church, fathers, the dying and
social justice.

VOCATION CHALICE AND FAMILY
PRAYERS FOR VOCATIONS
Several years ago the Diocese of Palm Beach began the Vocation Chalice program. Families were
encouraged, one Sunday at a time, to take a chalice home after Mass for a week of prayer for
vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
The Serra Club started this ministry, to foster and promote vocations to the priesthood and religious
life and to further family spirituality and devotional practices. The worldwide Serra movement has
over 23,000 members in over 700 clubs in 36 nations. It is named for Blessed Junipero Serra,
a Franciscan priest who was a California missionary in the late 1700s.
How the Vocation Chalice Program works
One family each week takes a chalice home after the end of the Massand family members pray every
night with the chalice in their midst for more priests and religious vocations. They return the chalice
by the following Sunday for it to be given to the next family who is selected for that weekend.
We, at St. Joan of Arc, have not only continue this practice, but have also included it with the
Spanish-speaking parishioners at the 6:30pm Mass on Saturdays.
Participants must be families with children. If you are interested in participating, please contact
Betsy Nieporte at (561) 929-6324.
RCIA 2014 EASTER VIGIL
12 l ST. JOAN OF ARC l APRIL 27
FROM THE DIRECTOR OF FAMILY LIFE MINISTRIES
AND THE FRUIT OF LOVE IS SERVICE
What do we do with this beautiful and powerful love of the Risen Christ? We can feel it, this powerful
life-giving touch and life changing love (Msgr's words at Easter), our hearts leap with joy and our faith is
renewed. With grateful hearts we proclaim the great news of the resurrection and the promise of eternal
life. But how do we let the rest of the world know how we feel? How do we evangelize?
I love to read about Blessed Teresa of Calcutta. Her humble heart, with love and gratitude, shone with
the light and love of Christ everywhere she went. In her words: "The fruit of prayer is the deepening of love, deepening of faith. If we believe, we
will be able to pray, and the fruit of love is service. Therefore works of love are always works of peace, and to be able to put our hearts and hands
into loving service we must know God,
we must know God is love, that He loves us and that He has created us-each one of us- for greater things".
I am blessed to share my days with amazing parishioners as Director of Family Life Ministries here at St. Joan of Arc. Everyday my faith is
renewed and my love strengthened by the beautiful acts of service I am privileged to witness. But a very special group of ladies have stolen my
heart and captured my admiration. They work with their hands to produce priceless pieces, which are touching lives, one at a time.
Twice a month, across the street at our little Casa Hispana, our Knitting for Needs Ministry
comes together to pray, laugh and knit some of the most beautiful items I have ever seen. Those
items vary from blankets given to our Homebound Parishioners, Baby items for Birthline, hats,
scarves and sweaters for our migrant workers, to miniature hats for our premature babies in
Neonatal Hospital Units. Their joy is contagious, their faith...
unbreakable, and their love...unforgettable. I make it a point to visit because they are the real
thing, and they give me strength, hope and much wisdom. Their humble and selfless gifts have a
great impact in the lives of those who benefit from their service. WE even have “homebound
knitters” who occasionally drop off beautiful pieces to be given away. My niece, who works at a neonatal unit, is a recipient of mini caps for her
"babies", and she shares such gratitude for the joy and hope such personal gifts bring to the parents of those fragile babies. They all go home
with a "touch of love".
I am convinced that the secret to happiness is to let God’s love into our hearts, and love in action leads to service. The less we think of
ourselves and the more we think of others, the happier we will be. I have seen it with my own eyes. Small or big, every act of service is an act
of love. Our faith is meant to be shared, through simple, small acts of love.

Our Family Life Ministry hosted our Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, April 11th in Mercy Center and surrounding school fields. Everyone had a great

Después dijo a Tomás: Trae aquí tu

Gracias.
