Pastor’s Column
La Columna del Padre
Christ Jesus our Lord, shine in us!
Christ Jesus our Lord, shine through us!
Mary, our Lady, help us with your motherly kindness!
Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor, ¡brilla en nosotros!
Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor, ¡brilla en nosotros!
María, nuestra Señora, ¡ayúdanos con tu bondad
maternal!
On this first official Sunday of my service at Saint
Joseph Parish, I wish to greet all of you in the parish.
Let us rejoice in the Lord because it is good for us to be
here! Thanks to so many of you who have already made
us feel welcome over these past few days. We arrive on
a wonderful feast … the Assumption of the Blessed
Virgin Mary! Father Josh and I are here to nourish the
parish with Christ Jesus through Word and Sacrament ...
and who better to teach us how to do that than she who
nourished Him?
Since the announcement of our assignment to Saint
Joseph Parish was made in May, our actual arrival may
have seemed like a long time coming. When are those
new priests getting here?!! This was to allow the
opportunity to be strengthened evermore to be of service
to you and God. From June 28 through August 5, I was
at the Institute for Priestly Formation on the campus of
Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska to make the
Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. The
Spiritual Exercises involved a 30-day silent retreat to
allow the Lord to speak deeply to my heart. I will be
processing the graces from that experience for the rest of
my life. As one person said to me, “If it was wonderful
for you; it will be wonderful for the people of the
parish.” While I was in Nebraska, Father Josh was at
Probigua Institute in Antigua, Guatemala to study the
Spanish language and culture more in depth. This was
his second immersion experience in Central America.
He spent four hours a day in one-to-one instruction and
also assisted at the Parish of Our Lady of Mercy on
occasion. In upcoming bulletins we will make more
personal introductions.
In the days ahead we will get to know one another much
better, and you will be able to get an ever-clearer reading
about who we are: our gifts and strengths, our
weaknesses and shortcomings, our pastimes, and my
vision for how all of us at Saint Joseph Parish can work
together to fulfill our mission, with the help of the Holy
Spirit.
Christ Jesus our Lord, shine in us!
Christ Jesus our Lord, shine through us!
Mary, our Lady, help us with your motherly kindness!
van a llegar esos nuevos sacerdotes?! La tardanza era
para permitirnos la oportunidad de fortalecernos para
mejor servirles a ustedes y a Dios.
nuestras debilidades y faltas, nuestros pasatiempos, y mi
maternal!
