Readings of this amazing week right before Easter. It is the most
important week of the year. Fr. Gelfer will explore with you the readings of each day as well as discuss the important and relevant aspects of each day’s liturgy that powerfully leads to Holy Saturday and
concludes on Easter Sunday. He will expand on the journey from
Palm Sunday to Easter and give time for personal reflection. Please
join Fr. Peter and bring your family! Childcare and fun activities will
be available. Both talks will be held in the church.

TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading: Moses speaks to the people and tells them of the deep
memory they are to retrain. The wandering in the desert does not erase
memory; it burns it into each heart the truth that God hears our cry and
responds with abundance. Our job is to return those gifts generously.
Psalm 91: The psalmist sings of the goodness and shelter of God. Our
God is protector and savior. The vivid image of being borne upon the
wings of angels and guarded is a source of comfort and hope. The reference to “shelter” is, in the psalms, a reference to the Temple precincts.
Second Reading: Following Jesus requires the same assent of heart and
mind that was asked of Israel in the original covenant. Here, Paul reminds
us that the boundaries of culture, location, and faith tradition are transcended in Christ, who is accessible to all.
Gospel: The story of the temptations of Jesus are a pointed reminder of
the mystery of the Incarnation. Like us, Jesus was human. Like us, he
could be tempted to indulge his appetites, find satisfaction in the material,
act in grandiose ways, and abuse power. All of these Jesus resists. He
has nothing to prove. His unwillingness to be seduced thwarts Satan. How
might this example be translated into our own human lives?

CORPORAL WORKS OF MERCY
Lord Jesus, you ask us to give drink to the thirsty. We can:
Conserve water by taking shorter showers, turning off the
tap when brushing teeth, and running full loads in dishwashers and washing machines.
Dispose of medicines properly to avoid contaminating the
water supply. (The Ojai Police Department accepts
medications-no syringes.)
Support clean water projects and water-smart landscaping.
SPRIRITUAL WORKS OF MERCY
God of mercy, show us how to console the doubtful. Help
us:
Accompany the people you put in our path and listen
carefully to their stories.
Avoid judging others.
Rejoice in even small movements toward beauty, goodness and truth.

Las lecturas de hoy
Primera lectura: Moisés habla a la gente y les dice de la memoria profunda que se
van a reciclar. El deambular por el desierto no borra la memoria; se quema en
cada corazón la verdad que Dios escucha nuestro grito y responde con abundancia. Nuestro trabajo es devolver esos dones generosamente.
Salmo 91: El salmista canta de la bondad y el refugio de Dios. Nuestro Dios es el
protector y salvador. La imagen viva de ser llevado sobre las alas de los ángeles
y vigilada es una fuente de consuelo y esperanza. La referencia al "refugio" es, en
los salmos, una referencia a el recinto del templo.
Segunda lectura: Siguiendo a Jesús requiere el mismo asentimiento de corazón y
mente que se le hizo a Israel en la alianza original. Aquí, Pablo nos recuerda que
los límites de la cultura, la ubicación y tradición de fe se trascienden en Cristo,

· Disponer de medicamentos en forma adecuada para evitar contaminar el suministro de agua. (El Departamento de Policía de Ojai

· Apoyo proyectos de agua potable.
Obras de misericordia espirituales
· Dios de misericordia, nos muestran cómo consolar a los que
tienen dudas:
· Acompañar a las personas que ponen en nuestro camino y escuchar con atención a sus historias.
· Evitar juzgar a los demás.
· Alégrate, incluso en pequeños movimientos hacia la belleza, la
bondad y la verdad.

Social media sites are available to anyone with an internet connection (computer,
phone, tablet). Your kids may be sharing their lives with complete strangers, and

friends are. One mobile app, Kik, is regarded as the most dangerous site for
internet predators, because users can send messages to anyone with a cellphone, including young children. Kik has no options for parental controls, leaving

Jubilee Year of Mercy
First Sunday of Lent
On Ash Wednesday Pope Francis commissioned "Missionaries
of Mercy," priest-confessors sent forth worldwide as "living
signs of the Father's readiness to welcome those in search of
[God's] pardon." In a way, though, Pope Francis challenges all
of us to become "missionaries of mercy" (Misericordiae Vultus,
18) by living Lent in this Jubilee Year of Mercy "more intensely
as a privileged moment to celebrate and experience God's mercy" (MV, 17). Francis bids us make the prophet Micah's words
our own: "God . . . who does not persist in anger forever, but
delights rather in clemency. You will cast into the depths of the
sea all our sins" (Micah 7:18, 19). Having experienced God's
mercy ourselves in the unconditional forgiveness of our sins,
how eager we should be to invite others to know the peace of
God's boundless mercy; perhaps even to experience, through
our reaching out in gentle kindness and compassionate care,
something of God's unconditional love for them.

“Misioneros de la Misericordia”, sacerdotes confesores que fueron enviados alrededor del mundo como “signos vivos de la prontitud del Padre para dar la bienvenida a quienes buscan el perdón de Dios”. En
cierta manera, el Papa Francisco desafía a todos nosotros a convertirnos
en “misioneros de la misericordia” al vivir esta Cuaresma del Año Jubilar de la Misericordia con “mayor intensidad, como momento fuerte
para celebrar y experimentar la misericordia de Dios” (Misericordiae
Vultus, 17). El Papa Francisco nos propone hacer nuestras las palabras
del profeta Miqueas: “No persistirá en su ira para siempre, porque se
complace en la misericordia. Volverá a compadecerse de nosotros, sepultará nuestras culpas” (Miqueas 7:18–19). Ya que nosotros mismos
hemos experimentado la misericordia de Dios en el perdón incondicional de nuestros pecados, que tan entusiasmados debemos estar para
invitar a todos los demás para conocer de Dios la paz de la misericordia
inmensa; más aún por experiencia, a través de nuestro alcance de bondad y cuidado compasivo, algo del amor incondicional de Dios por
ellos.
