Mercy is love put into action. During the Year, we will plan many opportunities to learn how to put that love into action. Becoming a Church of Mercy means acting as Christ in today’s world. Acting is the key word. So this Jubilee, according to the Holy Father’s intent, is not only about understanding mercy more fully but also about putting mercy into practice. GUIDE FOR THE JUBILEE OF MERCY Pope Francis has asked us to grow this year using the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy as our guide. Corporal Works of Mercy Spiritual Works of Mercy Feed the hungry. Give drink to the thirsty. Clothe the naked. Shelter the homeless. Visit those in prison. Comfort the sick. Bury the dead. Admonish sinners. Instruct the uninformed. Counsel the doubtful. Comfort the sorrowful. Be patient with those in error. Forgive offenses. Pray for the living and the dead. HOW CAN WE PRACTICE MERCY DURING THE JUBILEE YEAR? PARISH PLANNING MEETING FOR THE JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY Sept. 27 at 3:30 PM in the Media Center All are welcome! Weekly Inquiry Sessions begin in September! Women’s Cornerstone is coming to our Parish SUNDAY READINGS TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Sunday Jos 24:1-2a, 15-17, 18b; Eph 5:21-32 or 5:2a, 25-32; Jn 6:60-69 Monday Rv 21:9b-14; Jn 1:45-51 Tuesday 1 Thes 2:1-8; Mt 23:23-26 Wednesday 1 Thes 2:9-13; Mt 23:27-32 Thursday 1 Thes 3:7-13; Mt 24:42-51 Friday 1 Thes 4:1-8; Mt 25:1-13 Saturday 1 Thes 4:9-11; Mk 6:17-29 DAILY READINGS TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME First Reading: Joshua 24:1-2a, 15-17, 18b Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel and told them if it did not please them to serve God, then they must decide who they would serve. The people claimed that God had brought them out of slavery and protected them on their journey. Therefore, they would serve, the Lord their God, and no one else. Second Reading: Ephesians 5:21-32 or 5:2a, 25-32 Husbands and wives should love one another as Christ loved the Church. They should nourish and care for each other as Christ cared for the church. Through the union between the two, they become one. Gospel: John 6:60-69 Many of Jesus' followers were still disturbed by his teaching of the living bread, which they could not yet fully understand. Jesus explained that the Spirit gives life, and flesh is unimportant. Some of the disciples decided to leave. Jesus asked if the Twelve also wanted to leave. Although they do not completely understand yet, they have enough faith in Jesus to stay because they believe he is God's holy one. This year our school supply drive will be held this weekend and next, August 29/30. Your contributions of supplies such as, backpacks, lunch bags, crayons, pencils, red pens, erasable pens and markers etc. help to make the start of school a little easier and more affordable for many families. Your donations can be placed in the vestibule of the church. If you know of a family that could benefit from this outreach, please call Maureen Dorney at 973-7659662. A Family Perspective Even though many found the teachings of Jesus "difficult," he did not back down. In our families it is important to say what is difficult to hear, to speak the truth with kindness, to correct with love and guide with understanding. San Vincente mártir “Experiencia hispana” Rev.
