Thank you girls and boys for helping.
Go therefore, and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I
have commanded you.”
(Matthew 28:19-20)
We welcome into the Roman Catholic
Church those who were baptized:
Antonio James Halliday
who was baptized August 16, 2015
“For this reason a man shall leave his father
and mother and be joined to his wife, and the
two shall become one flesh. So they are no
longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what
God has joined together, no human being
must separate.”
(Matthew 19:5-6)
We congratulate the couple who

“Is anyone among you suffering? They should pray . . . is
anyone among you sick? They should summon the
presbyters of the church, and they should pray over them
and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.”

TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy
8 December 2015
To
20 November 2016
NATURE OF THE THEME OF MERCY
Mercy is not a mere theological concept, as Pope Francis points out in his Bull of Indiction, the Face of
Mercy, announcing this Jubilee year. Mercy is love put into action.
During the Year, we will plan many opportunities to learn how to put that love into action. Becoming a
Church of Mercy means acting as Christ in today’s world. Acting is the key word. So this Jubilee, according
to the Holy Father’s intent, is not only about understanding mercy more fully but also about putting mercy
into practice.
GUIDE FOR THE JUBILEE OF MERCY
Pope Francis has asked us to grow this year using the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy as our guide.
Corporal Works of Mercy
Spiritual Works of Mercy
Feed the hungry.
Give drink to the thirsty.
Clothe the naked.
Shelter the homeless.
Visit those in prison.
Comfort the sick.
Bury the dead.
Admonish sinners.
Instruct the uninformed.
Counsel the doubtful.
Comfort the sorrowful.
Be patient with those in error.
Forgive offenses.
Pray for the living and the dead.

DAILY READINGS
TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Joshua 24:1-2a, 15-17, 18b
Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel and told them if it
did not please them to serve God, then they must decide
who they would serve. The people claimed that God had
brought them out of slavery and protected them on their
journey. Therefore, they would serve, the Lord their God,
and no one else.
Second Reading: Ephesians 5:21-32 or 5:2a, 25-32
Husbands and wives should love one another as Christ
loved the Church. They should nourish and care for each
other as Christ cared for the church. Through the union
between the two, they become one.
Gospel: John 6:60-69
Many of Jesus' followers were still disturbed by his teaching
of the living bread, which they could not yet fully
understand. Jesus explained that the Spirit gives life, and
flesh is unimportant. Some of the disciples decided to
leave. Jesus asked if the Twelve also wanted to leave.
Although they do not completely understand yet, they have
enough faith in Jesus to stay because they believe he is
God's holy one.

Religious Education Registration ( K - 8th) - 2015-2016
All enrolled this past academic year should have received a
re-registration form so we ask that you kindly update it
and return it the office promptly. Sixth graders all move
into our Junior High Program. If you have a child going into
high school you should be receiving information from
Youth Ministry, the Confirmation Program, whose Director

should be addressed to Jody Costello, Secretary at
[email protected], 973-377-4000 ext. 301.
For new families interested in registering, please contact
us for a program brochure with your education options.
We ask that you carefully consider which option best suits
the way your child learns and what is best for the family as
a whole. Space can sometimes be limited in certain
programs so we urge you to return your completed
paperwork in a timely fashion.
For preschool children, please contact us to learn more
about the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Program. If
your child has special needs, we also can share with you
about our God’s Rainbow program. One great way to
evangelize and spread the word about the love of Jesus is
to invite others to come to know Him.

Formation, 2nd floor, Ministry Center for further
questions, additional information or concerns at 973-3774000, Ext. 251 or [email protected].

parishioners are welcome.

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE
For many years now, our parish has helped students get
back to school with all the materials and supplies they
need. This year our school
supply drive will be held this
weekend and next, August
29/30. Your contributions of
supplies such as, backpacks,
lunch bags, crayons, pencils, red
pens, erasable pens and markers etc. help to make the
start of school a little easier and more affordable for many
families. Your donations can be placed in the vestibule of
the church. If you know of a family that could benefit from
this outreach, please call Maureen Dorney at 973-7659662.
A Family Perspective
Even though many found the teachings of Jesus "difficult,"
he did not back down. In our families it is important to say
what is difficult to hear, to speak the truth with kindness, to
correct with love and guide with understanding.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a los
judíos: “Mi carne es verdadera
comida y mi sangre es verdadera
bebida”. Al oír sus palabras,
muchos discípulos de Jesús dijeron:
“Este modo de hablar es
intolerable, ¿quién puede admitir
eso?”
