Dear St. Mary of Carmel Catholic School Families,
Last week, as we prepared for Christmas and the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, I asked the students
to go home and ask their parents to read chapters 1 and 2 from the Gospel of Luke. As many of you
know, Luke is my favorite Gospel, not that the others aren’t great. However, chapters one and two
really summarize what our faith is all about and in particular the true meaning of Christmas. If you
have not done so, please spend some time reading these chapters with your entire family, and share
your thoughts and feeling afterward.
I read parts of these chapters at least once a day. I feel blessed to be a part of St. Mary of Carmel
Catholic School and that I may help spread the word of our Lord on a daily basis. I have attached lines
from my favorite all-time Christmas cartoon. Charles Schulz fought CBS executives in 1965 to keep
this monologue in the cartoon. He understood that Santa Claus, Christmas presents and Christmas
food would not be possible without Jesus Christ.

Linus: “Sure Charlie Brown, I know what Christmas is all about.”
“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by
night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about
them: and they were so afraid. And the angel said unto them, ‘Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good
tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a
Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in
swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.’ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the
heavenly host praising God, and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will
toward men.’ ” (Luke 2:8-14)
“You see, Charlie Brown—that’s what Christmas is all about.”

Estimadas familias de la Escuela Católica de Santa María de Carmel,
La semana pasada, mientras nos preparamos para Navidad y el nacimiento de nuestro Salvador,
Jesucristo, les pedí a los estudiantes que les pidieran a sus padres leer los capítulos 1 y 2 del Evangelio
de Lucas. Como muchos de ustedes saben, Luke es mi evangelio favorito, no que los demás no son
magníficos. Sin embargo, los capítulos uno y dos realmente resumen lo que nuestra fe es y, en
particular el verdadero significado de la Navidad. Si no lo han hecho, pase algún tiempo en la lectura
de estos capítulos con toda su familia y comparta sus pensamientos y sintiendo después.
He leído partes de estos capítulos por lo menos una vez al día. Me siento bendecido formar parte de la
escuela Católica de Santa María de Carmel y que puedo ayudar a difundir la palabra de nuestro Señor
sobre una base diaria. He conectado líneas de mi caricatura favorita de Navidad. Charles Schulz
luchó contra ejecutivos de CBS en 1965 para mantener este monólogo en la caricatura. El reconocía
que Santa Claus, regalos de Navidad y comida de Navidad no sería posible sin Jesucristo.

Y esto les servirá de señal: encontrarán a un niño recién nacido envuelto en pañales y acostado en un
pesebre». Y junto con el Ángel, apareció de pronto una multitud del ejército celestial, que alababa a
Dios, diciendo: ¡Gloria a Dios en las alturas, y en la tierra, paz a los hombres amados por él!». "(Lucas
