WHAT`S INSIDE: Diaconate Ordination for Gerald J. Zukauckas
January 31, 2010
Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Diaconate Ordination for Gerald J. Zukauckas
Our prayers and best wishes go to Gerald J. Zukauckas who will be
ordained a permanent deacon for the Archdiocese of Atlanta next
Saturday, February 6 here at the Cathedral. A parishioner of Christ
the King since 2003, Gerald will serve our parish family, joining
Deacons McNabb, Robichaux and McManus.
His calling to the permanent diaconate began when his wife Sharon
arranged for them to bring home the Elijah Cup to pray for vocations for a week.
Shortly after that, Deacons McNabb and Robichaux held a meeting at the
Cathedral to provide information about being a deacon. As a result of that
meeting, and with intensive prayer, daily Mass and time in the Adoration Chapel,
he submitted his application and his five year journey began.

Would You Like To Help Care for the Altar Linens?
The Altar Guild is looking for volunteers who would like to help care
for the altar linens. Our Cathedral is growing. With the additional
evening daily Mass and increased attendance, we use more altar linens
and could use additional help in caring for the altar linens. The work can be done
in your home on a flexible schedule. We especially need your help at Easter and
Christmas. If you are interested in helping, please contact Kevin Culver at 404233-2145 x428 or [email protected].
Wedding Workshop — February 1
If a wedding at the Cathedral is in your future, plan to attend this workshop,
held the first Monday of each month (February 1) at 7 pm in the Cathedral.
Brides-to-be, their mothers, their fiancés and any interested friends are invited to
come. Members of the Wedding Guild will explain wedding procedures and
answer questions concerning the planning of the ceremony.
What Is An “Active” Parishioner Status?
Active parishioners rightfully look to their parish for any number of services. Among
these are:
• Certification as godparents/sponsors for Baptisms and Confirmation
• Active parishioner tuition rates in Catholic schools
• Use of the facilities for liturgical services such as Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals.
• Enrolling children in the Religious Education Programs and Sacramental program for
First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation.
These rights and services within the Church bring with them certain obligations, as in
any form of community. The criteria for determining active parishioner status include:
• Be a registered member of the parish.
• Attend Mass at Christ the King on a regular basis
• Support the parish through the giving of your time, talent and treasure.
Receiving regular mailings from the Cathedral (newsletters, envelopes) means that you
are registered in the parish. If you are not registered, please pick up a registration form
at the back of the church or at the front desk.

Youth Choir Festival
Best wishes to the 21 members of the Cathedral Boy Choir and Girl Choir who
have chosen to attend the annual Archdiocesan Youth Choir Festival being
hosted at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marietta next Saturday, February
6. These choristers , with their Director, Dr. Tim Wissler, will participate with
youth from seven other parishes on that day, culminating in their providing the
music in an 82-voice choir for the vigil Mass at 5:30 pm. We are proud of our
young singers and their willingness to share their time and talent in weekly
rehearsal, singing at our 9 am Mass throughout the school year and helping to
celebrate special events in the archdiocese. We thank all members of the
Cathedral Boy Choir and Girl Choir for singing at this weekend’s vigil Mass to
celebrate Catholic Schools Week, and send our support to those who will be
singing next weekend at St. Joseph’s. (All parishioners are welcome to attend this
beautiful liturgy on February 6 at 5:30 pm in Marietta.)
Stewardship of Treasure
Jeremiah declares that the Lord knew him before he was born, and dedicated and
appointed him to his role as prophet even before he drew breath. We, too, are
known and sent by the Lord. What deeds of love and service are mine to perform?
Remembering the Cathedral in Your Will
If it has been over five years since you have looked at your Will, it is time to review
it and update it. You can include Christ the King in your Will by adding a codicil
without having to redo your entire Will. Giving to the parish’s endowment fund,
the Cathedral Fund, will help assure the continuation of the parish and its
ministries forever. For more information, contact Ham Smith, 404-261-6189 or

Sponsor Couples Needed for Marriage Preparation
The Sponsor Couple ministry is a married-to-engaged couple approach to
marriage preparation. In five sessions, the program helps engaged couples explore
the realities of married life through reflection and dialogue with a sponsor couple
already living in a Catholic Marriage. It is a wonderful time to share your
experiences, the good times and the bad times, and is also a great way to
reconnect with and serve our parish with your spouse. The meetings take place,
at a time of your convenience, in the home of the sponsor couple. Each session
lasts about 1½ to 2 hours. Depending on your availability, you are usually asked
to sponsor 1 or 2 couples per year.
We are hosting a training session on March 27 from 9 am to 3 pm in Kenny
Hall. Please contact Dora and Kevin Burke at [email protected] or
404-239-5934 if you are able to attend.

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY
The Pope on Life
Every child who is born brings us
God’s smile and invites us to
recognize that life is his gift, a gift to
be welcomed with love and
preserved with care, always and at
every moment. God entrusts every
child who is born to his parents; so
how important is the family founded
on marriage, the cradle of life and
love! The House of Nazareth where
the Holy Family lived is the model
and school of simplicity, patience
and harmony for all Christian
families. I pray the Lord that your
families too may be welcoming
places where these little ones can not
only grow in good health but also in
faith and love for God. -- Pope

LA EXIGENCIAS DE LA VOCACIÓN CRISTIANA
¿Cuál podría ser la mejor manera
de tener influencia con la gente
cercana a nosotros?
¿Me siento personalmente
