Prayer Before An Election
Lord God,
as the election approaches,
we seek to better understand the issues and concerns
the confront our country,
and how the Gospel compels us
to respond as faithful citizens in our community.
We ask for eyes that are free from blindness
so that we might see each other as brothers and
sisters,
one and equal in dignity,
especially those who are victims of abuse and
violence,
deceit and poverty.
We ask for ears that will hear the cries
of children unborn and those abandoned,
men and women oppressed because of race or creed,
religion or gender.
We ask for minds and hearts that are open
to hearing the voice of leaders
who will bring us closer to your Kingdom.
We pray for discernment
so that we may choose leaders
who hear your Word, live you love,
and keep in the ways of your truth
as the follow in the steps of Jesus and his Apostles
and guide us to your Kingdom of justice and peace.
We ask this is the name of your Son Jesus Christ

Celebration of Our Lady of Providence/Nuestra
Señora de La Providencia
Next Sunday November 13th our parish will
be having a special celebration for Our Lady of
Providence, the patroness of Puerto Rico at the 10:00
am Spanish Mass. A procession to the St. JohnVisitation Parish Pastoral Center and a social
gathering will follow after the Mass. Please mark
your calendars and plan on joining us.

As Catholic citizens, we have the opportunity
to participate in the political process of our nation.
While the Church never endorses or promotes
political parties or specific candidates, Forming
Consciences for Faithful Citizenship (the U.S.
Bishops Reflection on Catholic Teaching and
Political Life) notes:
"Unfortunately, politics in our country often
can be a contest of powerful interests, partisan
attacks, sound bites, and media hype. The Church
calls for a different kind of political engagement: one
shaped by the moral convictions of well-formed
consciences and focused on the dignity of every
human being, the pursuit of the common good, and
the protection of the weak and the vulnerable." #14

Veterans’ Day Holiday Observance
The St. John-Visitation Parish Offices and
Pastoral Center will be closed on Friday November
11th in observance of the Veterans’ Day holiday. The

Please Pray For Us: Parish Pilgrimage to the Holy
Land
Please remember in your prayers the 62
pilgrims who away on the Holy Land pilgrimage in
celebration of the Jubilee Year of Mercy. Likewise,
the St. John-Visitation parish community will be
remembered in the prayers those on pilgrimage in the
Holy Land.
With both Fr. Kerrigan and Fr. Antonio away
leading this parish pilgrimage, we are grateful to Fr.
Charles Huse, OAR, Fr. Frederic Abiera, OAR, and
Fr. John Michael Rafferty, OAR who are assisting
our parish along with Msgr. Hugh McManus until
they return.

Señor Dios,
como se acercan las elecciones,
buscamos entender mejor los problemas y
preocupaciones
al confrontar nuestro país,
y cómo el Evangelio nos obliga
para responder como ciudadanos fieles en nuestra
comunidad.

de modo que podamos ver unos a otros como
hermanos y hermanas,

Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de la Providencia
El próximo domingo 13 de noviembre nuestra
parroquia será tener una celebración especial para la
Virgen de la Providencia, patrona de Puerto Rico en la

la peregrinación a la Tierra Santa.
