Whoarewe?
Weareagroupofpeoplewillingtoworkandcooperatewithallthosepersonswhoneeded
most, without any distinction of race, country of origin, sex or religion so that all together can
constructabetterworldwhereallofuscanenjoyofthesameprivileges.
Weareawarethatifwehavetheprivilegeofbeingpartofthefirstworlditisonlybecause
there are second and third worlds. Nevertheless we firmly believe on the possibility to end this
differenceifweworktogether.
OurMision
Ourmissionistocooperatewiththosechildrenandyoungsterswhoareinmostneedand
with their environment, so that we all together can build a world where all their rights can be
guaranteed.
By means of cooperation, our objective is to achieve that all theygetis not a help but a
right,sothatinthefuturetheywon’tneedexternalassistanceandwillbeabletoovercomethe
poorsituationtheyliveatpresent.
Onthebasisofourprojectitlaysagoaltoachieve,thatallbeneficiariescangetoverthis
difficultsituation.Despiteourindicialmotivation,wedonotforgettheindividualdevelopmentof
eachpersonthatincludes,ofcourse,educationinallareas.

Oneoftheprojectswhichwearecurrentlyworkingonisfocusedonthecooperationwith
girlsandboysaswellastheirsocialenvironmentwithinthemarginalneighbourhoodofChorrillos,
closetothecityofLimainPeru
Encouraged by the close knowledge of the needs theyhave to simply survive with some
dignity,wehavecreatedasmallinfrastructurewiththeonlyideaofgettingtheappropriatemeans
inordertopalliatethedetectedneeds...
Chorrillosdistrict
Chorrillos is located in the Lima Department,
Province of Lima, on the Peruvian Coast of the Pacific
Ocean,atanapproximatedistanceof20Km.fromthecity
centreofLima,capitalofPeru.
The District presents a peripheral area where the
most
populated
neighbourhoods
are
located,
consequence of an informal construction system, as the
majority of them arise from invaded land and started
buildingusingverypoormaterial.
Chorrillos has experienced an important growth, mainly caused by theAndinemigration.
Thispopulationincreasehasalsooccurredwithinaneconomicalstructurethatpresentsveryserious
socialdifferences.Chorrillosistheplacewheresocialgroupsofhigheconomicallevelco‐existwith
othersoflowlevelandsufferingofextremepoverty.
Closetothelatter,wefind‘CristoMisionerodelPadre”Parishwithwhichwecooperatein
thesocialactiondevelopedtowardsthemostneededpeople.

The church was founded on November, 17th
1995. Father Florentino Lafuente, from Misioneros
Combonianos congregation is performing a very
importantsocialtaskwithfamiliesinextremesituation
ofpoverty.
Thissocialtaskcoversallareasthatguarantee
the dignity any human being has the right to, as
acknowledged by the United Nations Organization:
Food,Housing,Education,andHealthcare.
Ourtaskismainlyfocusedonthesefourareaswherewehaveseveralopencooperation
sub‐projects.

BreakfasfforChorrilloschildren
The church which we cooperate with counts
with 6 dining rooms where families with serious
economical problems come to. In this dining rooms,
approximatelyfivehundredmealsaregiveneveryday
for a symbolic price of 0,20 €, with the exception of
thosepeoplewholeaveinextremepovertyconditions,
thenthisserviceistotallyfree..
Inoneofthesediningrooms,theSantaRosa,

wearegivingfreebreakfastto105kids.However,therearemanymorechildrenwhoneedourhelp,
anddespitetheverypoorinfrastructures,weareworkingveryhardinordertoopenanewdinning
room,sothatthisservicecanreachmoreofthem.
Breakfast consists in a glass of milk, or rice with milk together with bread and butter, jam,
omelette, etc... Some mothers actively cooperate in the ellaboration of breakfast.
Healthcare,medicines,blankets
Oneoftheworseproblemswearefacingisthemalnutritionmostofthekidsaresuffering.
That’s the reason why, apart from providing breakfast, we are opening a nutrition follow‐up
programforacontinuouscontroloftheirhealth.

Duetothepoorconditionofthehouses
andthehighhumidityinthewholeareaofLima
Department, kids fall sick continually, mainly
from astma and chronic bronchytis. Something as basic as a blanket can prevent this problem
and/orpalliatetheeffectsoftheillnessoncestheygetit.
Wecontributedonthepurchaseof50blankets,butthisisnotenough.
Wehavealsocontributedonthepurchaseofanorthopaedicwaistbandforalittlegirlwith
serioushealthproblems.
LibraryandSchoolmaterial
One of ourmain objectives is to guarantee educationas aninternationational children’s
right.Itisforthisreasonwewanttocollaboratewiththepurchaseofstudybooksforalibrary

whicharound4000kidshaveaccesstoeveryyear.ThisProjectalsocoversthehiringofapersonto
managethelibrary.
Forallthoseboysandgirlsfromfamilieswithoutanyresourceswewanttocooperateby
meansofbuyingallschoolmaterialneededfortheiredcuation,pens,writingpads,uniforms.
Wehavealsodectectedtheneedtoacquiredifferentmaterialfortheweeklyworkshopsin
place,inordertohelpandfollowupthosekidswhoareinneedofmorespecialattention.
ProperHousing
We are cooperating with those
families who live in very precarious built
shafts, in order to buy construction material,
such as wood, metallic panels, etc.. that will
helpthemtoimprovetheirlivingplaceaswell
as to palliate the humidity that affects their
children’shealth.
Considering the limited economic
resourceswehave,ourworkatpresenthasbeenfocusedonthosefaimilieswithoutanyshelter,
althouhgmanyotherscouldsufferthesamedestiny.
PsycologistandLawyer
As we unfortunatelly all know, alcoholism usually attacks those families with very low
income or in situation of extreme poverty. Is this problem the base of the high level of violence
among the families in district of Chorrillos, and it is leaving important marks in those who are
sufferingmostfrom,childrenandwomen.
Anotherevenmoreseriousproblemisthehighrateofsexualabuseongirlsandboysfrom
membersoftheirownfamilies.Theover‐crowding,uptofourgenerationslivinginthesameroom,

the family chaos together with alcoholism and drugs are the roots of this sick society that hurts
thosewhoarenotstrongenough,children.
Itisforthatreasonweareintheproccessofhiringtheservicesofapsycologistandalawer
who,twotimesperweek,canassistthosewhosufferfromsexualabuse,violencewithinthefamily
oranyrelatedconsequences.
Kindergarden
Theexistenceofmanysingle‐parentfamilieswiththeneedofworkingastheonlymeansto
survive,hasencourgedusotcooperatewithallthosewomen,mothersoflittlekids,bytheopening
of a kindergarden in one of the poorest neighbourghoods. This project covers the hiring of two
personstotakecareofthechildren.
Economicalevaluation
Our working philosophy lays mainly in cooperating with the local people through
economical aids. We believe it is very important to activate the economy of the most helpless
places, so that the purchase of food, blankets, school and construction materials, medical and
contractsservicesisdonefromthelocaltradersandbusinessesofthearea.

FatherFlorentinosendsallinvoicesfromthepurchaseofproductsaswellastheservices
hiredonamonthlybasis.Theseinvoices,proofoftheproperinvestementofthehelpcomingfrom
GrupodeCooperaciónAguiluchos,arematchedwithouraccountingbooks.
Everymonth,thepersonresponsibleoftheProjectinBarcelonaheldsameetingoverthe
phonewithfatherFlorentinoinordertoreviewthestatusofallactivesub‐projectsandsolveany
kindofurgencyand/ornecessitythatcouldarise.
Onceayear,amemberoftheAssociationtravelstoChorrillosDistrictinordertocheckthe
statusofallprojects,thecorrectinvestmentoftheeconomicalresources,thecomplyingwiththe
lawwithregardsthehiringofpersonnel,andtofindnewneedstocooperatewith.

CHILDRENMALNUTRITUION
APROPOSALOFHOWTOIMPROVE
Introduction
Oneofthemainproblemsofchildrenhealthinourcountryistheacutemalnutritioncausedby
aninadequatediet(pooriniodum,ironandmicronutrients)orbytheexistenceofarecurring
illnessorboth.
Malnutritionisthemaincauseofillnesandprematuredeathinthirldworldcountries.Also,
the daily ingestión of calories is the main parameter to determine if a person can present
malnutritionproblemsornot,aswellastokeepagoodhealth,properweightandaminimum
levelofdailyactivity.
Malnutritioncausesadetentionofgrowthanddevelopment.Childrenatthisstagearemore
vulnerable to get sick and die, and are less capable of learning and improving at school with
theconsequenceofalessersocialinvolment.
Babiesandchildrenformthemostvulnerablegroupbecausethisearlyperiodoflifeismarked
byafastgrowththatimpliesahigherconsumptionofcaloriesandnutrients.Malnutritionin
childrenusuallyappearsattheageof4/6months.
Malnutritionidentifiesmultiplecasualfactors,andpovertyisthestructuralcause.
Andso,thesefamlieswhosufferfromlackoffoodasconsequenceofunemploymentortheir
involment in poor economical production activities, precarious housing, deficient health
conditions, incomplete schooling within the family group, lack of water supply sanitary
structuresintheirhomes,aremorefactorstobeaddedtothismalnutritionchartthatseems
tobeinevitable.

These kids are more vulnerable to catching diseases such as diarrhea or parasites, that in
manyoccassionsarecommonfactorsofmalnutrition.
Otherfactorsthatfavormalnutritionareinadequate nutritionhabitsandsituations offamily
crisiswithconflictbetweenmother/childrenties.
Thelackofstatisticsthatcouldgiveusmoredataaboutmalnutritioninourarea,makesusto
takeindirectindicatorssuchasunsatisfactorybasicneeds,infantmortalityrate,etc...

It’s been for some years now that many scientifics and experts such as those from “The
Lancet”magazine,UNICEF,USAID,BancoMundialandtheOMS,countingwiththehelpofBill
& Melinda Gates, Welcome Trust foundations among others, study the serious probles of
famineandmalnutritionaswellasmeansofhowtofightit

Thankstothishardwork,TheLancetreportwaspublished:InvestigationprovedthatPeruis
oneofthe36countrieswithahigherrateofchildrenmalnutrition.The2005Demographyand
Healthcaresurveyshowedthatchronicchildrenmalnutritionreacheslevelsof24%;whilethe
OMSrevealedthispercentageisupto31.Realityamongrural/countrylevelisevenharder.As
peroffcialdata,thisindexofchronicchildrenmalnutritionincreasesupto39percent..
Studiesperformedinthefield,reachtotheconclusionthatmalnutritionisdirectlyrelatedto
mother’seducation,becauseamonguneducatedwomen,malnutritiongoesupto54.5%,with
primaryeducation38.5%;andthosewithsecondary studies16%inlessthan5yearoldkids.
Amongwomenwithhigherstudieslevel,malnutritiongoesdownby3%.
Inviewofthetightrelationbetweenfood,educationandhealth,aswellastheincidenceof
inequalityandpovertyamongthem,thesearchofalongtermsolutiontomalnutritionisthe
finalfightagainstit.

DESCRIPTIONOFTHEPROJECT
TheProjectwillbecarriedoutwithinthefacilitiesofPoliclinicoParroquialSanDanielComboni
andwillcovertheareaofCristoMisionerodelPadreParish.
InformationStage:
•
During this stage, the main technical teamwill study the area and will evaluate
thepros&consfortheimplementationoftheProject.
•
Theparishdiningroomsandhelpgroupswillco‐ordinateinordertogetsupport
intheimplementationoftheproject.
•
Talksamongtheparishdiningroomswillbedonebyanutritionspecialisttotrain
as many collaborators as possible in nutrition and food areas, in order to
recgonise malnutrition symptons in their environment and make them aware of
whatthisgroupofpacientsareexposedto.
DiagnosisStage:
•
Registration: It will be determined by weight and height control in less than 12
yearoldkids.
•
Uponregistration,thepactientwillbeadmittedtothepaediatricsand/orgeneral
medicineservicestocheckthelevelofmalnutritionanddeterminingfactors.
•
Clinicallab.evaluationfortesting:bloodcount,parasites,totalproteins.
•
Paedriaticsre‐evaluation
•
Personal nutrition evaluation, in order to provide individual and specialized diet
accordingtothetypeandlevelofmalnutrition.
•
Evaluationandrecoverywillnotonlyincludediagnosis,butalsosocialinterviews
to help identify the causes (social/economic conditions, family structure, family
tiesstability,foodhabits,mother/sonrelationships,etc...).
•
Psycologicalevaluation,toimprovefamilyties,speciallymother‐sonrelationship,
to make families aware of malutrition related problems and get their
commitmentfortreatmentandcureofmalnutrition.
•
Afterthis,medicationwillbegivenaccordingtoeachhealthproblem.

NutritionandPsycologicalfollow‐upcontrolswillbedoneonamonthlybasis,by
distributingfreemedicamentsforthreemonthsduringthefirststage.
EvaluationStage:
Evaluationoftheprocesswillbedone,bysupervisingthefulfillmentofthedifferentstagesof
thisworkingplan,aswellasevaluationoveritsresultsinordertoidentifyamongallthekids
included in the program, how many have recovered from malnutrition, those who have
improved from their inicial nutrition condition, the ones who have quit, etc. This evaluation
stagewillbedone90daysaftercompletemedicaltreatment.
