The Nativity of
St. John the Baptist
JUNE 24, 2012
“What then will this child be?”
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Birth of John the
Baptist. John was born miraculously to the aged Elizabeth and Zechariah. He was
appointed by God to preach
repentance and prepare the
way for Jesus Christ. The
Church invites us today to
meditate on His birth.
Whenever a new baby comes
into the world, there is a moment of hope and excitement,
a moment of wonder. We rejoice when we see the new life, and we watch as the child’s
personality reveals itself over the first years. “What then
will this child be?” we ask as parents and grandparents.
Sometimes it is hard to believe that our own parents and
family members must have looked at us too as newborn
babies--awed by the miracle of new life, wondering who we
would become. But the Scriptures tell us that at least one
person knew us all along--God. God formed us in the
womb. He knew who we were and who we would be from
the very beginning. We certainly have free will. But God
has appointed each one of us to be the exact person we are.
We aren’t all John the Baptist, that’s for sure! But God has
a plan for each one of us--something only we can do, and
someone only we can be.
Let us pray for one another that we will find a way to honor
each other as unique creations from God, formed from our
mother’s womb. And let us pray that, as we draw closer to
God in our spiritual journey, we will become more and
more who we are meant to be. And let’s always bear this
point in mind:

La Natividad de San Juan Bautista
Junio 24, 2012 “En que se convertirá este
pequeño?”
Hoy celebramos la Solemnidad
del Nacimiento de Juan Bautista.
Juan nació milagrosamente de
personas mayores, Elizabeth and
Zacarías. El fue asignado por
Dios a predicar arrepentimiento y
Sarah

C. NHẬT THÁNH GIOAN TẨY GIẢ
SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST SUNDAY
June 24, 2012
Phúc Âm hôm nay nói về sự lạ lùng do bàn tay Thiên

From Bishop Barnes:
In recent months, there has been much
discussion in the U.S. Catholic Church
about the issue of Religious Freedom,
stemming from the mandate issued by
the federal Health & Human Services Department in
January. The mandate has led us to look more intently at
our long-held right to religious freedom and to express
our concerns publicly. It is important to continue to be aware of this issue and to hold it in
prayer. Therefore, the Bishops of the United
States have called for a “Fortnight for Freedom” from June 21 to July 4th.
In the back of church, we have available a
reflection and Q&A document on the HHS mandate
and its relation to Catholic teaching.
relaciona a nuestras enseñanzas católicas.

comprar estambre.
Nuestra primer misión es de terminar 25 cobijas
antes del 1 de agosto.
