There are many circumstances that could lead to someone becoming a person
without a home. Sometimes we tend to think something like: “why don’t they
just get a job?” Often their homelessness is the result of mental illness,
addiction, or the fact that they can’t keep a job. Christ encourages us to go out
and meet those without homes, affirming their worth and helping them seek a
resolution to the challenges they face.
Hay muchas circunstancias que podrían llevar a alguien a convertirse en una
persona sin un hogar. A veces pensamos en algo así como : "¿Por qué no se consigue
un trabajo?" Muchas veces su falta de vivienda es el resultado de una enfermedad
mental , adicción, o el hecho de que no pueden mantener un trabajo. Cristo nos anima
a ir al encuentro de los que no tienen casas, afirmando su valor y ayudarles a que
busquen una solución a los retos que se enfrentan.
Sometimes the homeless ask us for
money to find a place to stay for the
night or to buy food . Still it is much
better to give them food or to connect
them with a social service agency to
help them find shelter. Money can
be used to buy drugs and alcohol
that would make their problems only
worse.
A veces, las personas sin hogar nos
piden dinero para encontrar un lugar
para pasar la noche o para comprar
comida. Aún así, es mucho mejor
darles comida o conectarlos con una
agencia de servicio social para que le
ayuden a encontrar lugar. El dinero
puede ser utilizado para comprar
drogas y alcohol que harían que sus
problemas sólo empeoren.
One organization in our area that helps provide homes for people in need is Habitat for Humanity.
http://www.nwvhabitat.org They have a re-store here in Woodburn that you can donate goods to or buy used things
from them to support their work. St. Joseph’s shelter in Mt. Angel provides shelter to migrants.
http://www.stjosephshelter.org. St. Francis Shelter in Salem needs help with their after school program and with
office work: http://sfssalem.org Another good opportunity is the Union Gospel Mission in Salem:

lugar que se llama “The Union Gospel” en Salem (http://www.ugmsalem.org).
Jesus said, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his
head” (Matthew 8:20). The same could be said of our many brothers and sisters who are homeless!! How can we
find ways to bring them shelter?
Jesús dice, “Los zorros tienen cuevas y las aves tienen nidos, pero el Hijo del Hombre ni siquiera tiene donde recostar la cabeza“ (Mateo 8:20) Lo mismo podría decirse de muchos de nuestros hermanos y hermanas que no tienen hogar!! ¿Cómo podemos encontrar la manera de darles refugio?

The Catholic Home Missions Appeal

Many dioceses right here in the United States
do not have enough priests and trained lay
ministers to serve their parishes. These dioceses
are known as home missions. The Catholic
Home Missions Appeal, which will take place
this weekend in the second collection, supports
these dioceses by funding essential ministries,
including seminary education and lay ministry
training. Please be generous in this appeal and
share your resources to strengthen the Church
at home

ministros laicos capacitados para servir en sus
parroquias. A estas diócesis se les conoce como

local experts, Kirk Schmidtman and Linda Reinsch. This event will help to answer questions regarding wills, trusts, planned giving, health directives, powers of attorney, HIPAA,
and much more. Refreshments will be provided and door prizes will be drawn and given

Youth Minister Fulltime (or Part Time)
St. Luke Catholic Church, a large bilingual parish in Woodburn, OR, in the heart of the agriculturally rich
Willamette Valley, is searching for a full or part time youth minister to oversee its Young Adult and Youth Programs, including Confirmation. Ministry is done bilingually in both English and in Spanish. St. Luke is looking for
a candidate with the ability to connect well with youth and parents to create and sustain a strong youth program. The
successful candidate will recruit, train, and supervise volunteers. Required is a strong Catholic faith with a background in pastoral ministry, theology, or a relevant education and at least 3 years of experience with youth. Must

readers! You will find many students reading beginner
chapter books! They are studying properties and matter in science. They just finished up a money unit and
are beginning to tell time in math. Art is always a
favorite time in our classroom as well. We are
working on a variety of projects using watercolors this
month! Our service project is cutting and sorting
Campbell Soup labels, to get more recess
equipment. If you have any to donate, please drop
them off in the labeled box in the back of the church.
