The Beauty of the Mystery of the Incarnation of Christ discovered in “Ordinary Time”
The liturgical celebration of the Baptism of the Lord in the Jordan concludes the “Christmas Season” and
opens the “Ordinary Time “until “Ash Wednesday.” While Ordinary Time gives us the opportunity to contemplate Jesus in his humanity, living a life of obedience to his heavenly Father and of compassionate love for
his fellow men and women, it also gives us the opportunity to welcome our divine inheritance as sons and
daughters of God in Jesus, our beloved eldest Brother.
Indeed, the voice of the Father who spoke at the Jordan River and called Jesus his ‘Beloved’, and Jesus himself who agreed to be baptized with those who are sinners, remind us that, even though we are sinners, without any special or personal merit, we are called to enter into the lineage of the Beloved. The Letter to the
Hebrews that we heard during the First Week of the Ordinary Time tells us about Jesus: “You are my Son;
this day have I begotten You. I will be a Father to him, and he shall be my son.”
The same Letter to the Hebrews, referring to mankind, said: “What is man that You are mindful of him, or
the son of man that you take care for him? You made him for a little while lower than the angels; ... You have
crowned him with glory and honor, subjecting all things under his feet ... He who consecrates and those who
are being consecrated all have the same origin Consequently, He is not ashamed to call them “brothers” saying: “I will proclaim your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you.”
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, the Incarnation of Jesus is cause for rejoicing. Because the presence
of Jesus among us and the fact that He is our eldest brother sharing our humanity gives us the grace to reclaim
our original identity as Sons and Daughters of God. As we continue our journey in Ordinary Time, let us thank
God for the gift of Jesus; and, in the footsteps of Christ, let us do our very best to please our Heavenly Father
by doing His Will and by welcoming every man and every woman as our brother, and as our sister.

Debido a
