Our Lady of Good Counsel parish is a ROMAN
CATHOLIC, MULTICULTURAL COMMUNITY guided by

Through our CELEBRATION of the WORD and
SACRAMENT, and our PARTICIPATION in the LIFE OF

BUILD UP a spirit of COMMUNITY;
Wednesday, February 18, is Ash Wednesday. Thousands of people will come to
the many churches of our city, country and world. They are the faithful who are
here every week, the Christians for whom this day is an important day, and the people who come to church on special days. They come because God has called them:
“Return to me with your whole heart.” They will hear challenging and encouraging
words: “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel” as the ashes are traced
on our foreheads in the sign of the cross. With this powerful, traditional ritual
we begin our Lenten journey.
Lent is the 40 day journey we take every year. It is a journey to the celebration of
Holy Week and the new life of Easter. It is a journey deep into our hearts. It is a
journey made with the Lord and with one another. The Word of God, especially the
Gospel according to Saint John, will guide us on our journey. We journey with
Jesus and the people we will meet with him along the way.
Ash Wednesday is the first day of our Lenten journey. The Lenten journey is challenging, but it leads us to new life. Will you make the journey with the Lord and
with us this Lent? We hope you will and may God bless each one of us on the way.

Queridos Amigos,
Miércoles, 18 de Febrero, es Miércoles de Ceniza. Miles de personas vendrán a las
muchas iglesias de nuestra ciudad, nuestro país y el mundo. Son los fieles que
están aquí cada semana; los Cristianos para quienes este es un día importante; las
personas que vienen a la iglesia los días especiales. Vienen porque Dios los ha llamado: “Vuelve a mí con todo tu corazón” Oirán palabras que a la vez les hacen un
desafío y les animan: “Arrepiéntete y cree en el Evangelio” cuando el sacerdote los
marca con la ceniza en forma de una cruz. Con este rito poderoso y tradicional
empezamos nuestro camino Cuaresmal.
La Cuaresma es un camino de 40 días que hacemos cada año. Es un camino hacia
la celebración de la Semana Santa y la nueva vida de Pascua. Es un camino hacia
la profundidad de nuestros corazones. Es un camino que hacemos con el Señor y el
uno con el otro. La Palabra de Dios, en particular el Evangelio según San Juan, nos
guiará en el camino. Caminamos con Jesús y con las personas que vamos a conocer en el camino.
Miércoles de Ceniza es el primer día de nuestro camino Cuaresmal. El camino sí
tiene sus retos pero nos lleva a una vida nueva. ¿Harás el camino con el Señor y
con nosotros esta Cuaresma? Esperamos que sí y que Dios nos bendiga a cada uno
de nosotros en el camino.

Besides two sessions of RENEW every Thursday, we will
have another Bible Study group during Lent. Mr. De Lisa
