August 31, 2014 An example I often use to illustrate the reality of vanity, is this: look at the peacock; it's beautiful if you look at it from the front. But if you look at it from behind, you discover the truth. Whoever gives in to such self-absorbed vanity has huge misery hiding inside them. ********************************** STUDENT PRAYER DURING EXAMS Loving God be with me now, as I prepare for my exams. Thank you for the many talents and gifts you have given me and for the opportunity of education. Calm my nerves and anxiety, help me to remember all that I have studied, to express it clearly and to answer the questions the very best that I can. Holy Spirit sit with me in my exam—and always. In Jesus name. Amen. *********************************** SCHOOL PRAYER FOR RETURNING STUDENTS TO ECP, CCE, EDGE AND SPACE . . . Catholic…Divorced…Now What? New Session Starting It has been said that we are truly divorced only when we finally let go of our marriage, mourn our loss, and adjust ourselves to our new life. At St. Paul, our Divorce Care Group exists to help one another do just that. This is a Catholic based peer-ministry support group designed to help guide men and women through the process of divorce. The program explores the stress, anger, blame and guilt of divorce with the goal of leading participants toward ultimate forgiveness, happiness and growth. Plans are to begin a new Monday evening group in early October. Contact Heidi if you are interested in participating: [email protected] or 281.333-3891. Does your Catechism Still Fit? If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about becoming Catholic, our RCIA program is just the ticket! Contact Heidi Clark, 281.333.3891, ext. 328 or [email protected] Chances are the catechism you studied when you prepared for your confirmation was meant to meet the faith needs of a young teenager. But you’ve grown since then and have a whole lifetime of adult experiences that need integration and understanding. Grow in your faith by participating in this interesting, interactive study, every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. Sessions begin Tuesday, September 9, at 7:30 PM in Room 10, led by author, teacher, and theologian Julie DiennoDemarest. Participants bring a Bible and catechism for adults. New Bible Study in the Fall Thanks to the dedication of a generous and prayerful group of parishioners, a supply of prayer shawls are available for your loved ones who are struggling with illness, isolation, grief, aging, or other issues. If you or someone you know would benefit from receiving a shawl, call Heidi at 281.333.3891, Ext. 328. Do you really know Christ? Safety tips: Sending your child to school in shoes that tie or Velcro makes them less likely to have accidents than if they were to wear sandals, clogs, or flip flops. Also, mulch from our playground gets into open toed shoes and hurts your little one’s feet. Try to avoid things that may get caught in playground equipment like cords, strings and baggy clothing. We still have a few openings in our preschool. Don’t let your little one miss out on a fun and exciting school year!
