Juan’s Flinstone El Pedernal del Padre Juan The Easter joy and happiness continues, my friends. Christ is risen! Alleluia! What’s up? Have you sung Regina Coeli, laetare,* alleluia? Keep in mind that it is prayed only for 40 days and in Paschal Time. Rejoice with His Blessed Mother. La alegría y felicidad Pascual sigue, amigos míos. ¡Cristo ha resucitado! ¡Aleluya! *Queen of Heaven, rejoice, for the Son whom you merited to bear, has risen as He said. Rejoice and be glad, for the Lord has truly risen, and have saved all of us. I thank GOD for the Internet in how we are closer to our Catholic Traditions and prayers than before. In two clicks we have on cellphones, computers, tablets, watches, what we need to meditate, pray, and learn of Christian teachings. Now that Mother Angelica was called to heaven I have discovered that EWTN has broadcasting sisters in the air and on cable. For instance, The Shalom World (www.shalomworld.org). I know, I know, you knew that before me, but this is new to me. The Shalom Media Ministry is an environment with Catholic programs, documentaries, interviews, speakers, homilies, music concerts, even they organize spiritual revivals (vitamins to revitalize your faith). , on Apr 22nd - Apr 24th. Por ejemplo, The Shalom World (www.shalomworld.org). Juan Third Sunday of Easter A p r i l 1 0 t h , 2016 TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Brought before the Sanhedrin, the apostles give witness to Jesus Christ. (Acts 5:27-32, 40b-41). Psalm — I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me (Psalm 30). Second Reading — In his vision John sees all in heaven and on earth give honor and glory to the one on the throne and to the Lamb (Revelation 5:11-14). Gospel — Jesus appears to the disciples by the sea of Tiberias (John 21:1-19 [1-14]). READINGS FOR THE WEEK Acts 6:8-15; Ps 119:23-24, 26-27, 29-30; Jn 6:22-29 Tuesday: Acts 7:51 — 8:1a; Ps 31:3cd-4, 6, 7b, 8a, 17, 21ab; Jn 6:30-35 Wednesday: Acts 8:1b-8; Ps 66:1-3a, 4-7a; Jn 6:35-40 Thursday: Acts 8:26-40; Ps 66:8-9, 16-17, 20; Jn 6:44-51 Friday: Acts 9:1-20; Ps 117:1bc, 2; Jn 6:52-59 Saturday: Acts 9:31-42; Ps 116:12-17; Jn 6:60-69 Sunday: Acts 13:14, 43-52; Ps 100:1-3, 5; Rv 7:9, 14b-17; Jn 10:27-30 Monday: REDEMPTION Do you remember Peter on the night Jesus was arrested? He claimed he had never heard of Jesus. Today we are called to join Peter in testifying to the name of Jesus as he does in the first reading, and in proclaiming our love for him as Peter does in the Gospel passage. The powerful imagery of John’s vision in the second reading from the book of Revelation shows us the company we keep when we have faith in the name of Jesus. We join all living creatures, “countless in number” from “heaven, earth, under the earth, in the sea; everything in the universe” (Revelation 5:11, 13). The dignity and majesty described in each reading are in stark contrast to the dark and pitiful image of Peter and the other apostles at the time of Jesus’ arrest, trial, and crucifixion. What a relief that we can all be redeemed so completely! Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION From the earliest centuries, we know that some Christian women desired to vow themselves to a celibate life to pray and serve. Some, but by no means everyone, wanted a kind of monastic life. Others wanted to stay in the family home. By the fourth century, the church was celebrating the “Consecration of Virgins,” a rite performed by the bishop, and involving a “veiling” of the woman. It was looked upon as a form of marriage with Christ, partly because in the culture of the day a woman’s status in society was linked to a man. The prayers and ritual for the consecration of virgins were exactly the same as the prayers and ritual for the consecration of a bride on her wedding day. The public character of the rite gave the bishop the opportunity to commend the virgin to the faithful, and to threaten with punishment anyone who tried to turn her from her commitment. Eventually, the rite fell into disuse for women living in the world, and was reserved for nuns. The Second Vatican Council directed that it be revived and restored, and in nearly every diocese, single women have embraced this form of consecrated life. —Rev. LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA Hch 6:8-15; Sal 119 (118):23-24, 26-27, 29-30; Jn 6:22-29 Martes: Hch 7:51 — 8:1a; Sal 31 (30):3cd-4, 6, 7b, 8a, 17, 21ab; Jn 6:30-35 Miércoles: Hch 8:1b-8; Sal 66 (65):1-3a, 4-7a; Jn 6:35-40 Jueves: Hch 8:26-40; Sal 66 (65):8-9, 16-17, 20; Jn 6:44-51 Viernes: Hch 9:1-20; Sal 117 (116):1bc, 2; Jn 6:52-59 Sábado: Hch 9:31-42; Sal 116 (115):12-17; Jn 6:60-69 Domingo: Hch 13:14, 43-52; Sal 100 (99):1-3, 5; Ap 7:9, 14b-17; Jn 10:27-30 Lunes: REDIMIDOS ¿Recuerdas a Pedro la noche que arrestaron a Jesús? Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. Bullying Part II Excerpt from Virtus bulletin by Deacon Anthony P. Rizzuto, PhD So…what can we do to keep our children safe? Encourage young people to talk about bullying. Assure them you will listen and take action if they come to you. Look for signs that children and young people are being bullied, such as requests to stay home from school, unexplained mild illnesses, and problems sleeping. Advocate for clear policies about bullying in School settings and for bullying prevention to be addressed in the classroom. Empower young people to speak up when they see someone being bullied by saying something like, “You know what, I don’t think that’s funny,” and walking away. This changes the dynamic by depriving the one who bullies of an audience. If you are concerned about bullying in a school setting, talk to the principal. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Archdiocese of Miami runs one of the most robust awareness and prevention programs in the country. For more information contact the Safe Environment Office at 305-762-1250.
