The Liturgy and Influenza
With Flu season right around the corner,
we offer the following suggestions.
Durante este tiempo del año es donde
muchas personas tienen gripe y nosotros
queremos hacer alguna segurencias:
Holy Communion: Priests, Deacons and Eucharistic
Ministers should be especially encouraged to wash
their hands before Mass begins.
Communion from the Cup: The faithful should refrain
from drinking from the cup when one has a cold.
Greeting of Peace: The faithful should use good
judgment and limit contact with others when sick.
Mass Attendance: If one is sick, there in no
obligation to attend Mass, personal prayer
and reflection is encouraged
Secretariat for the Liturgy; USCCB
Beginning the First Sunday of Advent
(November 28/29) St. Joseph’s will be using a
new music hymnal. The Gather Hymnals became outdated when the New Roman Missal
was implemented in 2011.
The new hymnals are called “Breaking Bread”
and include the daily readings, Sunday readings and music for the entire liturgical year.
These updated hymnals will enhance our congregation’s participation at our liturgies.

O God of all the Nations, the One God who is and
was and always will be, who in your providence
willed that your Church be united to the suffering
of your Son, look with mercy on your servants in
Iraq who are persecuted for their faith in you.
Grant them perseverance and courage to be worthy imitators of Christ. Bring your wisdom upon
leaders of nations to work for peace among all
peoples. May your Spirit open conversion for
those who contradict your will that we live in harmony. And in all things may we be united in truth
and freedom to seek your will in our lives. We ask
this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
The Gospel predicts end times; our challenge though is to
live faithfully now. When we live in conformity to the Word,
hearing Jesus’ words and living them out, the future holds no
fear for us. As you place your gift in the Society of
St. Vincent de Paul poor box, know that you are hearing the
words of Jesus and living them out.

A SPECIAL HOUR OF EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
IN THANKSGIVING FOR THE PRECIOUS GIFT
OF OUR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Sponsored by Guardians of Religious Freedom , Merrick,
NY
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 22ND
5:00PM – 6:00PM
CURÉ OF ARS R.C. CHURCH
2323 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, New York 11566
“Today around the world, there are countries where Catholic priests cannot
wear their vestments in public. We take our religious liberties for granted. We
do not realize how blessed we are in this country.”
+ Rev. Charles N. Mangano, Pastor, Curé of Ars R.C. Church
RELIGIOUS FREEDOM IS BEING COMPROMISED AT AN EVER
INCREASING RATE.
What are these threats? Who is being threatened?
· Catholic Students-Public Education – locally, a student in a Merrick
middle school was intimidated and told she was prohibited from wearing a
cross to school because it was found to be offensive
· Catholic Universities – Georgetown submitted to government intrusion
when the Obama administration requested the IHS and cross above the
Gaston Hall stage be covered while he gave a speech there in April, 2009
· Workplace Challenges to Faith – In January 2015, a 34 year decorated
Atlanta Fire Chief filed a lawsuit against the City of Atlanta in response to
being terminated from his job for sharing his Christian beliefs and opinions with coworkers. If the City dismisses his case in next 2 months, he will
be forced to appeal to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals
· Municipalities Under Fire – In September, 2015, lawyers from the Freedom From Religion Foundation, citing separation of church and state,
began threatening Harold Rainwater, Mayor of Wilmore, Wisconsin if he
did not remove a cross that has sat on top of the city’s water tower for the
last 45 years

CURA DE ARS R.C. IGLESIA
2323 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, Nueva York 11566
Iglesia
