From the Pastor’s Desk
If you are feeling worried, confused, or hopeless, you know
how the disciples feel in today’s Gospel. We see them
huddled behind locked doors, trembling with fear, and
shivering with horror because Jesus has been crucified.
How could this happen? Was he not the Son of God? All
their hopes and dreams are shattered by his death. Their
future seems hopeless. Imagine their surprise when Jesus
suddenly appears before them, alive after all! They can scarcely believe their
eyes! We hear their shouts of astonishment and joy as he says, “Peace be with
you.” Then Jesus commissions them to go forth and proclaim the good news to
everyone. Jesus mysteriously breathes the Holy Spirit on them, giving them new
life, and informs them that they now have the awesome and life-giving power to
forgive sins. Later they deliver this incredible news to Thomas but he doubts their
story. Jesus returns, places Thomas’ fingers into his wounds, and this time
Thomas believes.

WORLD YOUTH DAY 2011 IN MADRID, SPAIN
Adult Faith Formation
Pope Benedict XVI has invited the youth of the world to join him in Madrid, Spain
for the XXVI World Youth Day in August of 2011. The theme for the 2011 event
will be, “Rooted and Built Up in Jesus Christ, Firm in the Faith” (cf Col 2:7)
Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! “This certainty of faith is the
foundation of our hope. It confirms that Jesus is really the Son of God,
that his words are reliable and true, that he has the power to forgive sins,
and that he died for us, indeed, for me. Because Christ has risen, he
remains present in his Word, in the communion of the Church, in the poor
and the afflicted, in his sacraments, in the priests, and most especially in
the Eucharistic Species.” (Living the Catechism of the Catholic Church,

English Bible Study
Enrich your experience of the joy of Easter by
reading and discussing the day’s readings with others. You do not have to
come every week to benefit or “keep up.” No preparation or background
study is needed. We meet every Sunday, 9:15 – 10:45 am, between the
7:30 and 11:00 am Masses, in the Family Life Center (Adult Faith
Formation Room). Led by Deacon Roger and Ms. Marilyn Gette.

Adult Faith Formation ~ This year’s Introduction to the Bible has ended,
and we are now preparing for next year’s subject – History of the Catholic
Church. Please consider joining us on the first Saturdays of each month,
beginning October 1!
Parents of Older Children Preparing for Baptism: The retreat for the
group baptism will be Saturday, April 30, from 1:00 – 4:30pm.
Attendance required for all parents, godparents, and candidates.
Adult PreSacrament Course This six-week course prepares adult
Catholics for the Sacrament of Confirmation. The cost to participate is
$25. Our Spring series will be offered in both English and Spanish.
In Spanish, 7:00 – 9:00pm, May 4, 11, 18, 25, June 1 and 8,
(Family Life Center/ ‘Thomas Aquinas’)
In English, 1:00 – 3:30pm, May 14, 21, 28, June 4 and 11

Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA/RICA) – Every Thursday
evening, 7:00 – 8:30pm, Family Life Center. For English, come to
‘Mother Teresa’; for Spanish, come to ‘Thomas Aquinas’. These classes
prepare adults for Baptism, and non-Catholic Christians to enter into full
communion with the Catholic Church. They also prepare Catholic adults
to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion. The
topic for this week’s meeting, April 28, is “Being Catholic: The Precepts

Please be aware that the definition of “youth” in most countries of the world
applies to older teens and young adults into their 30’s. In light of this and the
high degree of care which would be required to protect younger pilgrims
overseas, Bishop Farrell has decided that no one younger than 18 may
participate in World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid as a pilgrim from our
diocesan parishes or schools. Furthermore, in order to monitor compliance with
The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, and to assist in
coordinating with Dallas groups at the event itself, it is requested that any groups
or individuals participating from the Diocese of Dallas submit travel plans and

Go see the movie
There Be Dragons!
There Be Dragons opens in theaters on May 5, 2011. This movie
positively portrays the priesthood, faith and sanctity. We, as Catholics,
are interested in the success of this movie. By going to this movie on the
opening week end of May 5-8, we can help to make the opening weekend a success which is essential to the success of the film. This is our
chance to do something about the films that come out of Hollywood. We
have plenty to dislike. Here is a movie that accurately and
sympathetically portrays a priest who conveys the virtues of forgiveness
and fortitude in the midst of difficult circumstances, always accepting the
challenges (dragons) encountered in life. This is a wonderful and timely
opportunity to introduce a friend to the Gospel through the holiness of St.
Josemaria as conveyed in the movie. See you at the movies!
