The Gospel of this Second Sunday of Advent (Mt 3:1-12), presents to us the
figure of St John the Baptist, who, a famous prophecy of Isaiah says (cf. 40:3),
withdrew to the desert of Judaea and, with his preaching, called the people to
convert so as to be ready for the coming of the Messiah, now at hand.
In the Season of Advent we too are called to listen to God’s voice, that cries out
in the desert of the world through the Sacred Scriptures, especially when they are
preached with the power of the Holy Spirit. Indeed, faith grows all the stronger
the more it allows itself to be illumined by the divine word, by “whatever”, as the
Apostle Paul reminds us, “was written in former days [and] written for our
instruction, that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the Scriptures we
might have hope” (Rom 15:4). The model of listening is the Virgin Mary: “As
we contemplate in the Mother of God a life totally shaped by the word, we
realize that we too are called to enter into the mystery of faith, whereby Christ
comes to dwell in our lives.

We would like to thank all parish family members who helped make our St. Vincent
de Paul’s job of feeding our families in need a big success Saturday, November 23,
2013. One wonderful member donated 72 beautiful turkeys and stayed to help out.
Another generous gentleman gave gift certificates as he always does and stayed to
help out.
Our own Women’s Council and our school made up lovely Thanksgiving shopping
bags filled with turkey trimmings and goodies. They brought their children and they
were just great! What a blessing to have them there!
The frosting of the cake was when our Pastor Fr. Arias came. He blessed everyone
and everything in sight: people, kids, food, bibles, everything! You could actually
feel the Holy Spirit in our hall. What a joyous feeling! God bless all.

Segundo Domingo de Adviento

El Evangelio de este segundo domingo de Adviento (Mt 3, 1-12) nos presenta la
figura de san Juan Bautista, el cual, según una célebre profecía de Isaías
(cf. 40, 3), se retiró al desierto de Judea y, con su predicación, llamó al pueblo a
convertirse para estar preparado para la inminente venida del Mesías
En el tiempo de Adviento, también nosotros estamos llamados a escuchar la voz
de Dios, que resuena en el desierto del mundo a través de las Sagradas Escrituras,
especialmente cuando se predican con la fuerza del Espíritu Santo. De hecho, la
fe se fortalece cuanto más se deja iluminar por la Palabra divina, por “todo
cuanto —como nos recuerda el apóstol san Pablo— fue escrito en el pasado...
para enseñanza nuestra, para que con la paciencia y el consuelo que dan las
Escrituras mantengamos la esperanza” (Rm 15, 4). El modelo de la escucha es la
Virgen María: “Contemplando en la Madre de Dios una existencia totalmente
modelada por la Palabra, también nosotros nos sentimos llamados a entrar en el
misterio de la fe, con la que Cristo viene a habitar en nuestra vida.

Ayude a las hermanas, hermanos y sacerdotes de órdenes religiosas ancianos.
“Cada año la necesidad de cuidar adecuadamente a nuestros (miembros) ancianos se
hace más urgente, y estamos mucho más agradecidas por estos fondos
providenciales”, escribe una hermana religiosa sobre la asistencia financiera recibida
por el Fondo para la Jubilación de Religiosos. Su donativo ayuda a cubrir tales
necesidades como medicamentos y cuidados de enfermería. Done a aquellos que
dieron toda una vida.

¡MUCHAS GRACIAS!
Nos gustaría dar las gracias a todas las familias de la parroquia que ayudaron a
hacer un gran éxito la tarea de San Vincente de Paul de alimentar a nuestras
familias en necesidad el sábado 23 de noviembre de 2013. Un maravilloso
miembro donó 72 hermosos pavos y se quedó para ayudar. Otro caballero
generoso dio certificados de regalo como siempre hace y se quedó para ayudar.
Nuestro Consejo de Damas y familias de la escuela hicieron lindas bolsas de
Acción de Gracias llenas de provisiones y golosinas. Trajeron a sus hijos y
estuvieron simplemente grandiosos. ¡Qué bendición de tenerlos allí! El broche de
oro fue cuando vino nuestro Pastor Padre. Arias. Bendijo a todos y todo: ¡Gente,
niños, comida, biblias, todo! En realidad se podía sentir el Espíritu Santo en
nuestro salón. ¡Qué sensación más alegre! Dios los bendiga.
