Wesley`s Newsletter - Wesley United Methodist Church
Wesley’s Newsletter April 2016 Issue 64 From the Pastor’s Pen Dear Wesley Family, I hope this letter finds you all spiritually alive and inspired after the Lenten season journey which we completed last week. God gave us energy and enthusiasm to carry out all the traditional activities related to this particular season. My special recognition goes to those who collaborated with the potlucks during the five Wednesdays of the season and to those who helped me to direct the time of devotions. The Palm Sunday joint service was a special happening; the attendance to that service surpassed 120 people. You can see some pictures in this newsletter about members of our church participating during the Palm Sunday service in different ways. The Holy Week, as usual, was full of activities. The Maundy Thursday service where we were remembering and commemorating the happenings in Jesus’ life during the last night of his human existence, was really touching. The Hispanic Good Friday service was also very inspiring. We were remembering the last seven words of Jesus from the cross and a special video was prepared by the congregation which showed the events in Jesus’ life during his last week. And we closed our journey with a special celebration of our resurrected Christ on Easter Sunday. And now, here we are with our face oriented toward the future. I hope that through all the activities that we have carried out these last few weeks, along with all the inspiration that God has given to us through them, that we will have renewed faith, energy and enthusiasm to continue to faithfully serve Him in the space and time that he has called us to follow him. As your pastor, I feel pleased that our church’s vision for the future is little by little becoming a reality. I am sure that with God’s grace and help and through the participation of us all, that we will have a Wesley church in this neighborhood for a while. If I am not mistaken, it was William Carey, the renowned missioner who was considered the father of the modern missions, who said a famous phrase that goes like this: “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.” I can see that you, as part of the Wesley family, are making this phrase your very own. I close this letter by inviting all of you to pray for each other. Please keep Bob Wise and his family in your private prayers so that God gives them strength and peace in the middle of the storm that they are going through. Pray for those in our congregation who are weak, who are alone, who are suffering from different illnesses, and who are in special care. And pray for Wesley, your Church, to continue to proclaim the message of salvation and hope in this place where God has set us to be his witnesses. Que la paz de Dios sea con ustedes, Pastor Zavala PALM SUNDAY: A JOYFUL WESLEY CELEBRATION EASTER SUNDAY at WESLEY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in ELGIN, ILLINOIS (2016) All is prepared to celebrate Jesus’ Resurrection, Wesley UMC Wesley Choir singing during the Easter Sunday Service, April 2016,.
