Pastor’s Corner
The Bible presents us with two similar stories as far as the protagonists, and
both with a happy ending. The prophet Elijah— who had already performed
the miracle of multiplying the flour and the oil in order to feed the widow
of Zarephath, her son and himself—now saw how death takes the only son
of the poor woman. With great faith, the man of God invoked the Lord and
obtained the great miracle of returning the child to life.
Something similar happened at the time of Christ, when the Master
approaches the city of Naim and finds a funeral procession of the only son
of a widowed woman. Moved by the woman’s tears, Christ tells her
something that apparently makes no sense: “Do not weep”. Immediately, he
orders the young man to get up and, amid the general amazement of those
who see a dead man speaking, He gives him back to his mother.

Let us look at death as a friend that will open for us the gates to perfect life,
to unlimited happiness, to total love. Let us prepare for that solemn

10O Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario (Ciclo C)

La Biblia nos presenta dos hechos similares en cuanto a sus protagonistas, y con
respecto al final, feliz en ambos casos. El profeta Elías, que ya había realizado el
milagro de multiplicar la harina y el aceite para alimentar a la viuda de la ciudad
de Sarepta, a su hijo y a él mismo, vio como la muerte arrebató la vida al único
hijo de aquella mujer. Con gran fe, aquel hombre de Dios invocó al Señor y logró
el milagro de restituir la vida del niño.
Algo similar ocurrió en tiempos de Cristo, cuando el Maestro se dirigía a la ciudad
de Naim y observa un cortejo fúnebre que acompaña los restos del único hijo de
una mujer viuda. Cristo, conmovido por las lágrimas de aquella mujer, le dice una
frase aparentemente sin sentido: “No llores”. Inmediatamente ordenó al joven
levantarse y, en medio del estupor general a la vista de un muerto que comienza
a hablar, se lo entregó a su madre.
Tratemos de mirar a la muerte como a una amiga que nos permitirá el ingreso a
la vida perfecta, a la felicidad sin fronteras, el amor total. Pero preparemos ese
instante solemne con una conducta digna, inspirada en el espíritu y en las normas
del evangelio.

June 9, St. Ephrem, a Syriac deacon and a prolific
hymnographer and theologian of the 4th century. His
works are hailed by Christians throughout the world, and
many denominations venerate him as a saint. He has been
declared a Doctor of the Church.

teólogo del siglo IV. Sus obras son celebrados por los cristianos

June 11, St. Barnabas. Born in the island of Cyprus,
Barnabas was among the first Christians in Jerusalem. He
preached in Antioch and was Paul’s companion on his first
missionary journey. He took part in the Council of
Jerusalem. Returning to his home country, he preached the
Gospel and died there.
Junio 11, San Bernabé. Nacido en la isla de Chipre, fue uno de

It would not be out of place at this point to recall the relationship
between justice and mercy. These are not two contradictory realities, but
two dimensions of a single reality that unfolds progressively until it culminates in the
fullness of love. Justice is a fundamental concept for civil society, which is meant to be
governed by the rule of law. Justice is also understood as that which is rightly due to each
individual… Such a vision, however, has not infrequently led to legalism by distorting the
original meaning of justice and obscuring its profound value. To overcome this legalistic
perspective, we need to recall that in Sacred Scripture, justice is conceived essentially as
the faithful abandonment of oneself to God’s will.
