As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a sizable crowd,
Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside
begging. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out
and say, "Jesus, son of David, have pity on me." And many rebuked
him, telling him to be silent. But he kept calling out all the more, "Son of
David, have pity on me." Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they
called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage; get up, Jesus is
calling you." He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus.
Jesus said to him in reply, "What do you want me to do for you?" The
blind man replied to him, "Master, I want to see." Jesus told him, "Go
your way; your faith has saved you." Immediately he received his sight
and followed him on the way.
Llegan a Jericó. Y cuando salía de Jericó, acompañado de sus discípulos y de
una muchedumbre, el hijo de Timeo (Bartimeo), un mendigo ciego, estaba
sentado junto al camino. Al enterarse de que era Jesús de Nazaret, se puso a
gritar: “¡Hijo de David, Jesús, ten compasión de mí!” Muchos le increpaban
para que se callara. Pero él gritaba mucho más: “¡Hijo de David, ten compasión
de mí!” Jesús se detuvo y dijo: “Llamadle.” Llaman al ciego, diciéndole:
“¡Animo, levántate! Te llama.” Y él, arrojando su manto, dio un brinco y vino
donde Jesús. Jesús dirigiéndose a él, le dijo: “¿Qué quieres que te haga?” El
ciego le dijo: “¡Maestro, quiero ver!” Jesús le dijo: “Vete, tu fe te ha salvado.” Y
al instante, recobró la vista y le seguía por el camino.
Brief commentary
Because of its stress on the theme of journey, the gospel of Mark has
often been referred to as “the gospel of the way.” In Mark, Jesus is
always on the move. This is the case in today’s gospel where he arrives
and then leaves Jericho on his way to Jerusalem. Indeed, Mark’s gospel
is about the meaning of following Jesus Christ ‘on the way’. At the
center of this gospel are some of the most decisive teachings on
discipleship, such as serving others, taking up one’s cross, and so forth.
Also at its heart are two stories of blindness. One is of a nameless man
from Bethsaida whom Jesus leads out by the hand and touches his eyes
so that the man gradually regains his sight, and the other is today’s
story of the blind Bartimaeus. Bartimaeus begged by “the roadside”
and, upon “hearing” that Jesus was walking by, calls out to him. We can
imagine Mark’s original audience included members still on the
roadside, struggling to see, struggling to follow Jesus. This may be our
story as well. Bartimaeus calls out to Jesus, and others rebuke him to be
silent. Both for the original audience, which may have suffered
persecutions for being Christians and for many Christians today living
in repressive conditions, Bartimaeus offers a great example of resolve
and determination. Bartimaeus “kept calling out all the more.” Mark’s
audience, as well as us today, was deeply moved to hear the command,
“Take courage; get up, Jesus is call you!” Like Bartimaeus, we too are
called by Jesus of Nazareth. To follow we must, like Bartimaeus, throw
aside all that encumbers us: our fears, our hesitations, our self-concern,
our security blankets, our former ways of thinking, and spring up and
come to Jesus. “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus’ kind words
melt away our defenses. He is truly the savior! Like Bartimaeus we need
to often pray, “Master, I want to see!” We too are told the good news,
“Go your way; your faith has saved you.” Like Bartimaeus we receive
our sight from the Lord and “follow him on the way.” Discipleship
involves, therefore, leaving the roadside, gaining the sight of faith from
Jesus who is the light of the world, and following Jesus who is the way.
This is true for Bartimaeus, this was true for Mark’s original audience,
this is true for all Christians and all peoples, and this is true for each of
us here and now.
Today’s reading offers three significant messages:
 Faith is both gift from God and free response. It allows
us to “hear” and to “see”. It compels us to call out to
God with heart and soul.
Faith involves resolve and courage in the midst of
“rebukes,” pressures to “be silent” and temptations to
abandon our desire to seek God.
Liberated by Jesus, the Christian lives assiduously and
joyfully following him.
Comentario Breve
Por su énfasis en el tema de ‘jornada’, el evangelio de Marcos frecuentemente se
ha referido como “el evangelio del camino.” En Marcos, Jesús siempre está en
camino. Este es el caso con el evangelio de hoy cuando el llega a Jericó, y pronto
parte hacia Jerusalén. No hay duda que el evangelio de Marcos enfatiza el
significado de seguir a Jesucristo por el camino. Al centro del evangelio
encontramos varias enseñanzas decisivas sobre el discipulado, como el de
sirviendo al prójimo, tomando nuestra cruz, etcétera. También encontramos dos
relatos sobre ciegos curados por Jesús. El primero se trata de un hombre no
nombrado de la ciudad de Betsaida a quien Jesús le conduce de la mano fuera de
la ciudad y lo sana gradualmente, y el otro es el relato de hoy sobre el siego
Bartimeo de Jericó. Bartimeo mendigaba “al lado del camino” y, “oyendo” que
Jesús pasaba cerca, le clama. Nos podemos imaginar que la audiencia original de
Marcos incluía miembros que todavía estaban al margen del “camino,”
esforzándose por “ver,” luchando por seguir a Jesús. Esta puede ser también
nuestra situación.
Bartimeo clama a Jesús, y otros le reprenden para silenciarlo. Para la audiencia
original, quienes pueden haber sufrido persecuciones por ser cristianos, y para
muchos cristianos viviendo hoy bajo condiciones represivas, Bartimeo les ofrece
un gran ejemplo de determinación: Bartimeo “siguió clamando todavía más.”
La audiencia original de Marcos, tanto como nosotros hoy, se hubiese
conmovido al oír el mandato, “¡Animo! ¡Levántate, que Jesús te llama!” Como
Bartimeo, también nosotros somos llamados por Jesús de Nazaret. Para seguirle
debemos de actuar como Bartimeo, descartando lo que nos entorpece: nuestros
temores, indecisiones y dudas, auto-preocupación, nuestras ansiedades e
inseguridades, nuestras antiguas formas de pensar. Y debemos “saltar e ir hacia
Jesús.” Las palabras amables y bondadosas de Jesús disuelven nuestras
defensas: “¿Qué quieres que haga por ti?” ¡Verdaderamente, el es el salvador!
Como Bartimeo necesitamos rezar clamando frecuentemente, “¡Maestro, quiero
ver!” También a nosotros se nos proclama la buena nueva, “Vete, tu fe te ha
salvado.” Como Bartimeo recibimos nuestra vista del Señor y “le seguimos por
el camino.” El discipulado consiste, entonces, de partiendo del margen del
camino, abandonando lo que nos entorpece, recobrando la vista de la fe que nos
ofrece Jesús, quien es la luz del mundo, y siguiéndole, porque él es el camino.
Esto fue el caso para Bartimeo, era así para la comunidad original de Marcos, es
así para todo cristiano y todos pueblos, y es cierto para cada uno de nosotros
hoy.
La lectura de hoy nos presenta tres ideas
importantes:
La fe es don de Dios y libre respuesta humana. La fe nos
permite “oír” y “ver”. Nos conmueva a clamar a Dios
con corazón y alma.
La fe implica determinación y coraje en medio de
“increpaciones,” presiones a “callar” y tentaciones a
abandonar nuestro deseo de ir al encuentro de Dios.
Liberado por Jesús, la cristiana vive asiduamente y
alegre siguiéndole.

What does the Bible say about Financial Giving?
Financial giving is an act of faith and worship to Jesus Christ. The Bible makes it clear that every believer in
every church should give financially according to 1 Corinthians 16:1–2. The Bible also tells us that we should
give regularly and consistently in proportion to what we earn. Therefore, financial giving is a vital part of
our spiritual growth and development.
What does Financial Giving require of us?
Act of Faith
Giving is an active expression of our faith. It recognizes God as our True Provider. It demonstrates our
confidence in His ability to supply all we need. It’s an act of gratitude and dependence.
The Bible says in Malachi 3:10 to bring all the tithes into the storehouse and I (God) will pour out a blessing
so great you won't have enough room to take it in! Try it! God says; let me prove it to you! As we listen to
God's voice and seek His will for our lives, His plan for giving will become obvious to each of us. In response,
we can eagerly give, knowing that it pleases Him. Through our giving, we prove faithful in the stewardship
of all God has provided for us, while He blesses us beyond what we can imagine.
Acts of Faithfulness
Giving requires the highest standard of personal integrity
and discipline. It is not a casual or occasional thing. In 2
Corinthians 8-9, the Bible teaches we are to give willingly,
generously, and cheerfully. And our pattern should reflect
a regular and systematic plan.

Acto de Fe
El dar es una expresión activa de nuestra fe. Reconoce a Dios como nuestro Proveedor, demuestra nuestra
confianza en su habilidad de suplir nuestras necesidades. Es un acto de confianza y dependencia.
La Biblia nos dice (Malachi 3:10) que traigamos todas las donaciones al almacén y yo (Dios), les daré una
bendición tan grande que no habrá espacio suficiente para acomodarlo todo! Prueben! Dios nos dice:
permítanme que se los compruebe. Mientras escuchamos la voz de Dios y aceptamos su voluntad se nos
esclarece el plan que él tiene para nosotros. Esto nos anima a dar con alegría sabiendo que eso le agrada. Por
medio de nuestra donación nos mantenemos fieles a nuestra mayordomía de lo que Dios nos provee,
mientras sus bendiciones sobrepasan lo que nos imaginamos.
Actos de Fidelidad
El dar requiere un standard muy alto de disciplina e integridad personal. No es un acto casual o de ocasión.
En 2Cor 8-9 la biblia nos enseña a dar voluntariamente, generosamente y con alegría. Tomando en cuenta
