Mass Intentions
of the Week
Dear Friends of Holy Spirit,
Greetings to each of you. This Fall
has been amazing with warm weather
and beauty around us. I think the cold is
catching up with us this weekend, but
we still cannot complain.
I want to thank everyone who has participated in
the United Catholic Appeal. If you have not turned in
your pledge card, please do so in the next couple
weeks. You can simply put it into the collection
basket.
A couple weeks ago Fr. Juan spoke about
cremation for Catholics. For the last 30 years
cremation has been allowed for Catholics, although
body burial would still be the recommended choice.
If a person believes they wish to be cremated, we
would still have a funeral Mass, hopefully with the
ashes present.
What is being emphasized is the proper interment
of the ashes. One should approach the interment the
same way we would approach a body burial…either
burial in the ground or in a mausoleum. What is not
acceptable is leaving the ashes in the house for
months (or years), scattering of the ashes or putting
the ashes into jewelry. We need to remember that
the human body was the dwelling place for the Holy
Spirit and needs to be honored in life and death. If
you are planning on cremation, please make plans
for the immediately interment of the ashes. This
gives honor and respect to the holy remains.
Some of you may have noticed a small white
cross in from of the church along 10th St. This cross
is to honor a young woman who died in front of our
church from a “hit-and-run” that occurred three weeks
ago. Say a prayer for this woman (Cherry).

Want to help with the Mission trip to

Looking for a way to make a difference to the people of
Texiguat, Honduras? We will be taking a number of

also could use Tylenol and Ibuprofen (children
and adults) and multi-vitamins (children or
adult). Please place these items in the Twinning bins in the East or West vestibule. We will be leaving
on January 23, 2017, so please try to drop them off before
January 15 for packing. Due to your past generosity, we will
have enough toothbrushes and paste for this trip.

Did you know...
* Young people who start drinking
before age 15 are 5 times more likely to
develop alcohol problems than those who start in their
20's.
* The brain is not fully developed until age 25. This
is why the teen brain is more vulnerable to substance
misuse than the adult brain.
* Mixing prescription pills with other drugs or with
alcohol really increases risk of death from accidental
overdose.
* Misuse of prescription pain pills like Vicodin and
OxyContin have been involved in more overdose
deaths than heroin and cocaine combined.
* The use of depressant substances like alcohol or
marijuana contribute to depression.
These are examples of information shared with our
Holy Spirit middle school students during Drug Awareness Week this past week. The Student Council involvement made this year's program even better. A
huge THANK YOU to the knowledgeable speakers
and volunteers who helped make this week possible!
Please pray for the well-being of our youth.
Serrv works with thousands of disadvantaged artisans and farmers in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the
Middle East, and here in the United States, connecting you to the handmade products and foods they
make. Through our long-term relationships, we create opportunity for our partner artisans and farmers
to break the cycle of poverty. In addition to developing market access for our partners, we assist them
in becoming economically self-sufficient through
product design, educational opportunities, and technical assistance. We also prioritize social programs
focusing on women's empowerment, children's
rights, community resource development, and more.
El Renacer Chalateco
Chalatenango, a mountainous area in the northeastern corner of El Salvador, suffered great losses during El Salvador's internal armed conflict. El Renacer
Chalateco, Spanish for 'A New Beginning in Chalatenango" started after the signing of the peace accords in 1991, to provide people affected by the war
with a new beginning. El Renacer works with
artisans in many small towns throughout Chalatenango, helping to market their products and provide them with training and new opportunities.
Serrv carries wood and seed products painted in the
characteristic folk art style of La Palma, a village
made famous by Salvadoran artist Fernando Llort
who shared his painting techniques with talented
artists throughout the area. This distinctive style of
painting, celebrates scenes of daily life with bright,
cheerful colors.
Items like these will be available as well as
items from
artisans
from San
Francisco
de Asis in
Texiguat,
Honduras,
at the Fair
Trade Sale
on December 3 and 4
and 10 and

HOLY SPIRIT CHURCH
Giving Tree
The Giving Tree Ministry has
existed since 1996. In the last 20 years,
we have given thousands of needy families and charities Christmas joy
through generous donations of gifts and
money.
A few days before
Halloween, six volunteers set up and decorate
three trees in the church.
The tree has nine types of ornaments
that each represents a charity that needs
gifts or monetary donations.
One volunteer is need at each Mass
over those next four weekends to
replenish the tree ornaments and collect gifts
under the trees. Once
a week, one or two
volunteers take the
gifts to the distribution
center at St. Philip Neri.
Holy Spirit Parishioners typically
give over 400 gift items to the
St. Philip/Holy Cross Parishes.

December 4, Directly following Con-irmation Class, we
will have our -inal topic-centered youth group night of
2016. Our theme for the night to conclude our study on
Mercy is the Top Two Commandments, coming from Mark
12: 29-31. We will explore what is means to truly love God
and your neighbor, tying from our previous lessons (Mercy,
the Corporal Works of Mercy, and the Spiritual Works of
Mercy). There will be food, games, and fellowship that you
won´t want to miss out on. All High School Youth are welcome to join us from 6:00-7:30 in the Parish Center.
December 11, instead of having our normal youth group
meeting, we will instead be participating in a service project
downtown. Earlier in the semester, our teens identi-ied a
way to practice the Corporal Works of Mercy was to
distribute hot coffee and/or hot chocolate to the homeless
downtown. At 6:00 p.m., we will plan to meet at Holy Spirit
to then carpool to downtown Indianapolis to accomplish
this. Adult chaperones will be around to ensure the safety of
all, but this will be an excellent way to serve the needy and
vulnerable in our own city. If you are interested, please
contact Mary Kate in the Parish Of-ice.

Oración por los Enfermos
Carta del Pastor Asociado
Queridos amigos de la
Iglesia Espíritu Santo,
¿DE CUÁL CLASE DE
LADRONES SOMOS?
•
Ambos eran ladrones, ambos estaban sufriendo,
