El Paso has not won a series since their 2nd series back from the All-Star break & took 3 of 4 from Memphis at Southwest University Park. Their final game against Nashville & the first 2 games of the series against Memphis between July 17-19 is the last time the Chihuahuas won 3 games in a row. However, El Paso has not beaten the same team in 3 straight games since June 4-6 in Fresno. • The 3 hits by the Chihuahuas on Sunday night match a season-low with their August 15 contest at Oklahoma City. The Dodger's Trevor Oaks had a no-hitter through 6.1 IP that night while the Bees Troy Scribner left the game after the 5th without allowing a hit. • Out of the Chihuahuas 3 hits, none of them were for extra bases. It is the 5th time this season El Paso has not recorded an extra-base hit & the 2nd time in August. The Chihuahuas had a run of 96 consecutive games with at least one extra-base hit between April 11 through July 22. • Through 2 games between the Bees & Chihuahuas, neither team has hit a home run despite Southwest University Park having the 2nd-most homers of any PCL ballpark this season. There have now been 8 games out of 62 contests in 2016 without a home run by either squad while the Chihuahuas as a team have hit just 1 homer over their last 9 games. If nobody for El Paso goes deep tonight, it would be the team's longest drought of the season (5 consecutive games). • The El Paso bullpen has been stellar lately. Chihuahuas relievers have held the opponent off the scoreboard in 3 of the last 4 games & have allowed 4 runs over their last 14.1 innings of work while being led by Buddy Baumann (3 outings, 2.1 IP), Daniel Moskos (2 games, 3.2 IP) & Eric Yardley (2 appearance, 1.2 IP). • Michael Kelly takes the hill on Monday night to make his 3rd start this season against Salt Lake. His last start at Smith's Ballpark on July 10 was abbreviated to 3 innings, but Kelly allowed just 1 hit in that start. He faced the Bees on June 24 in El Paso for his first Southwest University Park debut & picked up the win in a start that lasted 5.2 IP while he surrendered 3 runs on 5 hits. Kelly is 3-0 with an ERA of 4.32 in 3 starts at home this year. • Hector Sanchez continues to be one of El Paso's best clutch hitters. Sanchez is hitting a beefy .431 with runners on base & 8 of his 13 homers have come with at least one runner on base. • CHIHUAHUAS MAGIC NUMBER: 10 facebook.com/epchihuahuas 1 epchihuahuas.com 2016 Game Notes TODAY’S STARTING PITCHER 25 MICHAEL KELLY # HT: 6-4 | WT: 185 | B/T: R/R | AGE: 23 | BORN: September 6, 1992 in Boynton Beach, FL School: West Boca Raton Community HS | Acquired: Drafted by the San Diego Padres in 2011 KELLY QUICK HITS: 5th professional season...First Round Compensation pick by the Padres (48th overall selection)...Signed his deal with the Padres on August 15, 2011...Did not pitch professionally until the 2012 season...Same San Diego draft class as Cory Spangenberg, Austin Hedges, Casey McElroy, Colin Rea, & Justin Hancock 2016: • First Chihuahuas pitcher to win all of his first 4 starts with the team & the first to start a season 5-0 with El Paso • Promoted to Triple-A El Paso for the first time on June 19 & hurled 6 scoreless innings in Sacramento while allowing only 2 hits • Currently in his 3rd stint with the Chihuahuas this season • Began the year at High-A Lake Elsinore & made 6 starts for the Storm • Transferred to Double-A San Antonio on May 13 to make 7 starts with the Missions; won his Double-A debut on May 14 after just 2 earned-runs scored over 5 innings of work • Already has a career-high in wins, starts, innings pitched & strikeouts over three levels this season KELLY NOTES: • Split the 2015 season between Fort Wayne & Lake Elsinore • Pitched 6 no-hit innings w/ 9 strikeouts & 1 walk for Short-Season Eugene on August 23, 2014 • Made his professional debut on April 7, 2012 for Single-A Fort Wayne; pitched 3.0 innings in relief for the TinCaps • He was runner-up in the 2011 Florida Mr. Baseball voting to Jose Fernandez, who was also a first-round pick in 2011 • Signed a letter of intent to play college baseball at the University of Florida • Just the 2nd player ever drafted out of West Boca Raton Community HS & the highest draftee of 3 total selections • Threw out the first pitch at Petco Park in San Diego on August 16, 2011 after signing his pro contract • Played for the Sam high school travel team (Orlando Scorpions) as Chihuahuas teammate Auston Bousfield; past team alumni include Padres infielder Jemile Weeks & D-Backs pitcher Zack Greinke 2016 GAME-BY-GAME RESULTS WITH EL PASO (LAST 5 STARTS • 2-2, 5.72 ERA) DATE OPP DEC IP H R ER BB K HR NP-S ERA RESULT 7/10 @SL - 3.0 1 0 0 2 3 0 46-25 3.60 W 11-2 2016 SEASON HIGHS/LOWS HIGHS LOWS IP: 6.0 (6/19 @ SAC) IP: 3.0 (7/10 @ SL) H: 1 (7/10 @ SL) 7/17 NAS W 5.2 5 1 1 2 3 1 86-50 3.23 W 5-2 H: 9 (8/16 @ COL) 7/22 @SAC L 4.0 4 6 6 3 5 2 75-45 4.41 L 7-3 R: 7 (8/16 @ COL) R: 0 (2x) 7/28 @TAC W 5.0 6 3 3 1 1 0 75-44 4.54 W 5-3 ER: 6 (7/22 @ SAC) ER: 0 (2x) 8/16 @COL L 5.0 9 7 5 4 3 0 82-48 5.04 L 11-3 BB: 4 (8/16 @ COL) BB: 0 (6/19 @ SAC) K: 7 (7/5 @ ALB) K: 1 (7/28 @ TAC) HR: 2 (7/22 @ SAC) HR: 0 (6x) NP: 101 (7/5 @ ALB) NP: 46 (7/10 @ SL) @epchihuahuas facebook.com/epchihuahuas vs. Salt Lake Bees • 2 epchihuahuas.com 2016 Game Notes POSITION PLAYER BIOS Carlos Asuaje inf Last Game: 0-3, BB Acquired: Traded from Boston Red Sox w/ OF Manny Margot, INF Javier Guerra, & LHP Logan Allen Series: 2-6 for Craig Kimbrel on November 13, 2015 School: Nova Southeastern (Fort Lauderdale, FL) Road Trip/Homestand: 2-6 • Fourth pro season, Padres No. 20 prospect according to MLB.com at mid-season, preseason No. 17 • Represented the Padres in San Diego for the 2016 Futures Game playing for the World Team at Petco Current Hit Streak: Park & started at second base as the lead-off hitter for the PCL at the 2016 Triple-A All-Star Game in Longest Hit Streak: 12 (7/5-7/23) Charlotte • Drafted by Boston Red Sox in the 11th Round of the 2013 draft Last Home Run: 7/30/16 @ LV • Minor League All-Star last three seasons at Triple-A, Double-A (Portland), & Single-A (Greenville) • Spent all of 2015 with Portland Sea Dogs (Double-A, Red Sox) & led Portland in runs scored, hits, ASUAJE 2016 SEASON HIGHS triples, RBIs, walks & games played (131) H: 4 (2x) SO: 3(7/2 vs. REN) • Played for the Arizona Fall League champions, Scottsdale Scorpions, in the offseason.
