St. Luke’s
The crazy-looking fellow carrying a placard proclaiming “The End Is Near”
has become a stock figure of comedy. Horrific things do occur in human
history, but, based upon Jesus’ own teaching, the Church has always
kept a healthy distance from “The End Is Near” Prophecies. When those
days come, no placard will be needed, for the event will be as visible as
lightning flashing from one end of the sky to the other. So why are we
presented every year with readings focusing our attention upon the end
times? As a reminder that the future lies in God’s hands, not in ours. The
end may, or may not, be “near” But Jesus is. And so we are obliged never
to allow our efforts to loom so large in our eyes that we forget that we
were created for a destiny beyond this world. Whatever is done in the
world has genuine significance only insofar as it is related to God and to
what has prepared for those who love God.

The current church year is almost at an end, and the new
liturgical year, -a new year of grace, is about to begin. We
can sense the approaching change in the message of today’s
Mass readings. Today, for example, we hear of persecutions and
judgment. When we read Jesus’ words in the Gospel, however,
we will quickly recognize that Jesus deflects our natural but flawed
desire to know more about the end times, and deftly redirects us
to what we can know and can do. We can know what is good and
true, and we can ask our heavenly Father to send us his words of
Truth through the Holy Spirit, confident that He will give us all we need to act
courageously and charitably.
If you would like to improve your ability to understand the Word of
God proclaimed each Sunday, join our Sunday morning bible study group. You
can join by coming to the first room on the right as you enter the Family Life
Center, - any Sunday morning, at 9:15am.
The upcoming adult faith activities are:
English Bible Study Make the Sunday Liturgy of the Word more meaningful by
reading and discussing the day’s readings with others. You do not have to come
every week to benefit or “keep up.” No preparation or background study is
needed. Come when you can, -after the 7:30 Mass or before the 11am Mass. We
meet every Sunday, 9:15 – 10:45 am, in the Family Life Center (Adult Faith
Formation Room). Led by Deacon Roger and Ms. Marilyn Gette.
Adult Faith Formation ~ Introduction to the Bible
Become more knowledgeable about the Bible and how to let it become one of the
essential pieces of your Catholic faith life! At our December meeting we will study
one of the most important Old Testament narratives, - the story of Abraham, our
father in Faith. Date: Saturday, December 4, 9:30 – 11:30am (Family Life Center,
‘Thomas Aquinas’). Discussion will be let by Mrs. Therese Frank
Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA/RICA) If you know someone searching for
God, invite them to accompany you to our parish RCIA classes. These classes
prepare adults for Baptism, and non-Catholic Christians to enter into full
communion with the Catholic Church. They also prepare Catholic adults to
receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion. Classes are
conducted in both English and Spanish. Our next meeting will be Thursday,
November 18, 7 – 8:30pm. Topic: “The Liturgical Year.” All classes meet in the
Family Life Center from 7:00 – 8:30pm. For English, come to ‘Mother Teresa’; for
Spanish, come to ‘Thomas Aquinas’.
Adult Pre-Sacrament Our final class meets this week. Rehearsal will take place
on Thursday, November 18, 8:00pm, in R-16.

The Ark is requesting your assistance with food
donations for Charity Sunday which is the 3rd
Sunday of the month. Please bring non-perishable
food items to the church. You may also drop off
donations at the church office during the week.
The Ark is open the first and third Saturday of the
month from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Thank you
for your support and God Bless You for your generosity!
St. Luke Wishing Well
St. Luke’s School would like to introduce our “Wishing
Well” program. In the Narthex, you will see a Wishing
Well on the bulletin board. We would like for anyone who is
interested in helping the school pledge any amount of money you
are able for an item the school needs. Our first item is to help
finance a new Spanish Program called Rosetta Stone. This
program is an online program that will teach the students in Kinder
through 8th grade Spanish. The total cost of the program is $7,000.
Your donations are tax deductible. If you can help, please fill out
the index card with your name, phone number and amount of
money pledged and give to the ushers or bring to the church
rectory or school. Thank you for your support and prayers.
