In today’s readings, God, through Jonah’s preaching, causes the people of Nineveh to answer His call, turn away from evil, and repent. In St. Mark’s Gospel, Jesus calls Simon-Peter, Andrew, James, and John to be His disciples. They respond immediately, leaving their fishing businesses and families — sacrificing everything to follow the Lord. Their actions were considered radical in Jesus’ day, and also by today’s standards. As disciples striving to embrace stewardship as a way of life, are we, too, willing to sacrifice all to further His kingdom? Garden Ministry Annual Meeting Thursday, January 29 We will be meeting in the Cana room at 7:00 p.m. for discussion on the upkeep of the parish grounds. We will also start to make plans for the next Parish Workday. Also, if you have season tickets for one of our sports teams and can part with a set, they make great auction items. 2015 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal “All this I do for the sake of the gospel” The 2015 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal is now underway. Parishioners should be receiving a letter from Archbishop Gregory asking for a pledge to the 2015 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. The Appeal funds the essential ministries of the Church in our archdiocese—ministries that, in many cases, are of service to our parish. For example, our recent seminarians (Mark White, Edward Dannemiller), Religious Education, Child and Youth Protection, and Hispanic Ministries to name a few. The theme of the Appeal this year is, “All this I do for the sake of the gospel.” Our Archbishop writes, “We are called to reflect the great love of Jesus Christ, that he would become man and give His life for us, through all of our daily actions and how we live our lives.” Your financial support for the work of our parish and our archdiocese is one way to show gratitude to God and support the Church in her mission to share the love of Christ with the world. After we reach our parish Annual Appeal goal of $86,700, the archdiocese returns 100% of each additional dollar received from our parishioners to the parish. Last year we received almost $15,000 in rebates. Please respond to the Archbishop’s request and make a generous pledge. All pledges will be billed in ten monthly installments. Thank you in advance for your support. PCCW Southeast District Meeting Saturday, February 7—9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The PCCW will host the Southeast District Meeting in the Parish Hall. Breakfast and lunch will be served and there will be door prizes. The cost is $10 of which the district receives $5 and we receive $5. Kathy Pusch will speak about Family Promise. Members from 12 churches will attend. We would like to have as many women as possible from St. Pius X. Plan to attend and enjoy the camaraderie. E-mail [email protected] or call 770-787-4290. There will be a parents meeting on Jan. 26th and 28th at your child’s regularly schedule class time. PSR SCHEDULE-January 2015 Jan. 26th & 28th—Classes resume Liturgy of the Word for Children (LOWC) will be restarting on February 1st and all children ages 4-8 years old are welcome. January 28- The Hunger Games The goal of this Edge Night is to broaden the youths’ perspective on the world, particularly by looking at poverty around the globe. This reality of poverty will then be extended to the idea that the deepest hunger in the world is the hunger for God, even if most people do not realize it. Christ calls us to feed the poor; the youth will see that this is not only in physical matters, but also in spiritual. bâÜ cÜtçxÜá &fçÅÑtà{ç gÉM Carter and Donna Leverette on the death of his mother SUE LEVERETTE May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
