Divine Mercy Sunday
Believing
New birth, new life, good news! These themes run throughout today’s scripture readings. The first reading
from the Acts of the Apostles describes the joyful early days of the newly born church, when members devoted themselves to instruction, the communal life, the breaking of bread, and the prayers. The passage from Peter’s first letter
echoes that joy, and assures those who now believe though they never saw Jesus that their faith will lead to their salvation.
But amid all the joy, the Gospel reading calls us to sober reality. Not everyone can believe so easily. Even an apostle can
doubt this astonishing news of the Resurrection. Across the centuries, Jesus reaches forward to touch us today: “Blessed
are those who have not seen and have believed.”

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Each
week the Archdiocese of Miami’s Safe Environment Office will offer snipets from Virtus bulletins shared in the
last year. Virtus training is a child sex abuse awareness
and prevention program that begins with a live training
session and continues with monthly bulletins, which are
required of all clergy, employees and volunteers of the
Archdiocese of Miami.
An Instagram website allows members to digitally edit,
upload and share photos and short videos with other
members. While entertaining and fun, be aware that accounts are default set to “public” viewing. This can be
manually modified. Additionally, images are also
“geotagged” by default, meaning their locations can be
tracked. Child molesters have used this technology to
locate victims.
As technology continues to change rapidly, all of us
charged with protecting children must continue to stay
abreast of the new programs and applications that may
be used by predators to manipulate and exploit children.

Felices Los Que Creen
¡Nuevo renacer, nueva vida, buenas noticias! Estos temas relucen en las lecturas bíblicas de
hoy. La primera lectura de los Hechos de los Apóstoles describe los primeros días de júbilo de la Iglesia
recién nacida cuando los miembros se dedicaban a la enseñanza, la vida en común, la fracción del pan
y las oraciones. El pasaje de la primera carta de Pedro refleja esa alegría de la nueva vida y asegura a los
nuevos creyentes que no conocieron a Jesús, que su fe los llevará a la salvación.
Pero entre esa alegría, la lectura del Evangelio nos hace volver a la realidad. No todos pueden creer tan
fácilmente. Hasta un apóstol puede dudar de estas noticias extraordinarias de la Resurrección. Durante
dos milenios Jesús nos busca y nos toca al decirnos: “Felices los que creen sin haber visto.”
