This course covers the basic training that all maintenance employees need. This three day course outlines the critical aspects of
performing the work of an apartment maintenance technician. The training covers basic electrical, plumbing, appliance repair, locks
and keys, and best practices. Students also learn the work order and turnover process as well as teamwork, time management,
organization, customer service, fair housing, and an overview of the financial side of the equation. This course is perfect for the
newly hired staff member or veterans that need a refresher. It is geared toward giving students an introduction into what is
expected of a maintenance technician in this industry before they get to the site.

Instructors: Zach Howell, Cascade Management & Jeremy Abad, Portland Construction Solutions
Zach Howell is Director of Maintenance Operations for Cascade Management, Inc., and is a nationally Certified Apartment Maintenance
Technician (CAMT) carrying more than a decade of experience within the multifamily housing and construction industries. He is also a
valued advocate for the Apartment Maintenance trade. He currently serves as Subject Matter Expert for the National Apartment
Association, Training Director for the Apartment Maintenance Institute, and is a Community Education Faculty Member at Portland
Community College. In addition, he trains and consults locally with Multifamily NW, AHMA, RHA, and NARPM, and is the Chair of the NW
Maintenance Coalition.
Jeremy Abad, CAMT, UPCS, Estimator, Portland Construction Solutions
Jeremy carries a degree in Computer Science from Cibertec in Lima, Peru. He is a nationally Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician
and Uniform Physical Condition Standards inspector with more than a decade of experience within the construction and multifamily
housing industry. Jeremy is an energetic, experienced trainer who is bilingually fluent and can explain complex diagnosis and repair to
Spanish language staff. His classes are always fun and conversational. He is committed to making sure his students leave his courses with
solid knowledge and concrete solutions. In addition, he is an Apartment Maintenance Institute certified trainer who teaches locally in
Oregon for Multifamily NW, AHMA, NARPM, and RHA.
