the Archdiocesan Seminarians. As Pope John Paul
II said, “The responsibility for
the seminary belongs to the
entire Christian community”.
This Archdiocese is blessed
with over 40 men who are responding to a call for priestly
service to Atlanta Archdiocese people. This generous gift of
God is a blessing for this Archdiocese, but does pose a challenge to us. These men need both our financial support and
our prayers. Please provide a sound future for the seminarians here in the Archdiocese of Atlanta by giving generously
to the Archdiocesan Seminarians’ Collection.

The Book of the Names of the Dead
During the month of November
(beginning with the Feast of All Saints),
we honor our deceased loved ones by
inscribing their names in the “Book of the
Names of the Dead”. The Book is carried in Procession before each weekend
Mass and displayed in the sanctuary.
During the week, this Book will be placed
in the Gathering Area. Parishioners are
asked to include in the Book, only the names of those who have
died within the past year, or who have never been inscribed. Please
Do Not Duplicate Names That Have Already Been Inscribed In
Past Years. The Book that has already been filled will also be displayed in the sanctuary.
PLEASE NOTE: There will be no Sign-up Sheet to carr y the
Book in Procession. Volunteers will be accepted before each Mass

ThirtyThirty-First Sunday of Ordinary Time /Trigésimo Primer Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
“Don’t look for applause, but look to obey the truth. Speaking just to find applause or to
tell people what they want to hear,.is like prostitution.” (Pope Benedict XVI) The truth
about abortion is repugnant and abhorrent. It is therefore not easy and requires courage
to speak out about abortion. However, as Catholics, we must boldly speak the truth and
contradict the untruths and misleading rhetoric which surrounds the issue—such as
“someone’s personal choice” or “women’s reproductive rights.”

As we commemorate the Souls of the Faithful Departed in this Year of Mercy, Pope Francis
tells us that we can also obtain a Jubilee Indulgence for the deceased. Pope Francis states,
“We are bound to them by the witness of faith and charity that they have left us. Thus, as
we remember them in the Eucharistic celebration, thus we can, in the great mystery of the
Communion of Saints, pray for them, that the merciful Father free them of every remnant of
fault and strongly embrace them in the unending beatitude.”

During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis asked us to “rediscover the richness encompassed by the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. To help us experience the grace
of the Jubilee and to obtain indulgences, Pope Francis Holy Doors were opened in designated parishes throughout the world. St. Philip Benizi was chosen as one of the Atlanta Archdiocese parishes for a Holy Door. We have been blessed to have the door for many people
from our own parish as well as many other parishes to experience the grace and indulgence
of the Year of Mercy. The Closing of Jubilee Door of Mercy at St Philip’s will be during the
4:00pm Mass on .November 12.

Confirmation Information: Confirmation for teenagers at St Philip’s takes place in the
10th grade or after the teen has completed 2 years of Faith Formation. Normally this would include grades
8 and 9 with Confirmation being received in the 10th grade year. If a teenager did not attend Faith Formation in 8th grade, they should enroll in the High School Youth Group for grade years 9 and 10, receiving
Confirmation in the 11th grade year. Registration forms for Confirmation are available now online or can

The United States Bishops state that, "participating in shaping
the moral character of society is a requirement of our faith, a
part of the mission given to us by Jesus Christ" (Faithful Citizenship, USCCB). We model our faith when we share our beliefs in
the public square. It is not easy to vote our Catholic values and
beliefs, yet we are called to engage in the political process so
that we might help bring the message of Christ into the world.
This is especially important for families. The National Assessment of Educational Progress found that only 22% of 8th graders
and 27% of 4th graders were proficient in American civics.

LEARNING FROM ST. FRANCIS
The Kingdom of God brings peace. But it is a peace that is built not just with diplomatic, political, military, or creative
skills. It is a peace from on high that surpasses all of our understanding. This is the new creation that Paul speaks of
in Galatians where Mercy and acceptance brings about "a kingdom of truth and life, a kingdom of holiness and
grace, a kingdom of justice, love and peace." These characteristics hold together and make us realize that the Saint
has a past and the Sinner has a future in the Kingdom of God.
