Our Pastor Fr. Ron Weissbeck My dear family in Christ, When I teach my pre-baptism class I always ask this question to the participants: “What is the most important belief in the Church?” I give them a chance to come up with an answer and sometimes, they come up with what I am looking for, the Holy Trinity. The celebration of the Holy Trinity is not a concept but a relationship. This is the aspect that I emphasize with the class. We have celebrated the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost with this full revelation, now, we can consider the relation that has been revealed. There is no way that a person can come to the conclusion that God is a trinity of persons; this only was made possible by the disclosure of this mystery by the Son, Jesus of Nazareth. The Holy Trinity is a community of persons. Each of the persons “goes out” toward the other; this is what it means to be in communion. Within this dynamic there are not ways that God happens to reveal Himself to humanity but a distinct interaction as persons. In light of this disclosure, our Catholic tradition continually is committed to the unique value of each human being. It is because the persons of the triune God are unique that humans have their value. In addition, the liturgy calls our attention to the interaction of the three divine persons, that then, as a consequence has a direct bearing on how Christians fundamentally hold to this basic dogmatic reality. When considering what it means to be a Christian believer, it’s that there is One God but within God there are three distinct persons, uniquely related to each other. We are invited into that relationship when we were baptized in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. On Sunday, June 19th Our English Confirmation Mass is scheduled for the 10:30 a.m. where Archbishop Aquila will preside. Due to this Confirmation Mass, our Spanish Mass will begin at 1:00 p.m. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Around the turn of the fourth century, Augustine, still fairly fresh from the baptismal waters in Milan, was elected bishop of a tiny city in North Africa, Hippo. He told his people, “While I am frightened by what I am for you, then I am consoled by what I am with you. For you I am a bishop, with you I am a Christian.” He had his priorities right, and also knew that everyone coming from the water arises with a ministry, a specific role, in bringing about God’s kingdom. If we were asked to purge English of Greek vocabulary, we would gain an insight into key ministries in our church. Bishop, from the Greek episkopos, would become simply “overseer;” priest, from the Greek presybter, would become “elder;” and deacon, from the Greek diakonos, would be “servant.” Each title stands in relationship to all the baptized, serving the community, helping it to be the Body of Christ. In our deepest tradition, each of these ordained ministries is attuned to help us become our best selves, to hunger and thirst for the coming of God’s kingdom. The goal for each one of us is to be able to recognize the presence of Christ in worship and in service. Although only some of us are ordained to ministry, each of us is called to ministry. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. Fr. Ron St. John's Feast Day is scheduled for Saturday, June 25th. Please plan to join us for our Mass at 4:00 p.m. followed by a parish picnic in our courtyard. Please watch the bulletin for more details. www.johnthebaptist.org 3 CHURCH OF SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST LONGMONT, COLORADO Catholic Enrichment VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL IS HERE!!!! All donations will assist the nearly 200 families that live in the Longmont area that are served by SJB Food Bank. For your information, our Food Bank delivery boundaries are Hwy 66 to the North, Pike Road to the South, County Line Road to the East, and 75th Avenue to the West. The first food drive sponsored by St. Francis of Assisi yielded over 700 pounds of donations back in late 2015. We are extremely happy to announce this recent food drive brought in over 2,300 pounds of food!! The most requested items were: Canned Fruit, Canned Pasta Meals, Canned Chilies and Stews, Jelly in plastic containers, soup, and cereal. We also requested children’s diapers sizes 4, 5, and 6. We received quite a few of these diapers which is extremely generous. St. John’s Food Bank would like to express their thanks to St Francis for this outpouring of true compassion for those in our community who turn to us for help. Of the almost 200 families we serve, we deliver almost 80% of the food boxes to the client’s doorstep. This enables us to have a relationship with these families and get to know them better. Because we do deliver, we are able to provide services to shut-ins, elderly that have trouble with mobility, and the mentally and physically disabled. If you wish to know more about St. John’s Food Bank, or are interested in volunteer positions and hours of operation, please give John Williams a call at 303-678-1469. “Truly I tell you, whatever you do for the least of these brethren, you do for me.” Matthew 25:40 Worldwide Marriage Encounter Jesus tells us not to let our hearts be troubled because He has given us His peace; He also sent the Holy Spirit to guide our marriage.
