We will celebrate the Rites of Acceptance and Welcome for adults preparing for Sacraments of
Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist) at our 5:15 p.m. Mass, Saturday, October 8.
In the Rite of Acceptance (for adults preparing for all three Sacraments of Initiation - Baptism,
Confirmation and First Eucharist), the candidates assemble “publicly for the first time” and “declare
their intention to the Church.” In turn, the Church, “carrying out its apostolic mission, accepts them
as persons who intend to become its members,” while “God showers his grace” upon them. After
the Rite of Acceptance, the candidates are known as “catechumens.” “From this time on the Church embraces the
catechumens as its own with a mother’s love and concern. Joined to the Church, the catechumens are now part of
the household of Christ, since the Church nourishes them with the word of God and sustains them by means of
liturgical celebrations.” (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Nos. 41, 47)
The Rite of Welcome is for adults who have been baptized but not received Confirmation and/or First
Eucharist. Some were baptized in the Catholic Church and now will complete their Sacraments of Initiation. Others
were baptized in other Christian denominations and now will be received into the full communion of the Catholic
Church. The “prayers and ritual gestures” of the Rite of Welcome “acknowledge that such candidates are already
part of the community because they have been marked by baptism. Now the Church surrounds them with special
care and support as they prepare to be sealed with the gift of the Spirit in Confirmation” and/or to “take their place
at the banquet table of Christ’s sacrifice” in the Eucharist. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Nos. 411-412)
With these rites, our 5:15 p.m. Mass will go a little longer than usual
Saturday, October 8, so please plan accordingly.

St. Pius V church in Buena Park seeks an individual of faith, vision
and knowledge to take a leadership role in the establishment,
formation and execution of the cradle to grave Faith Formation
Ministry for our large multi-cultural community. The candidate
should hold a Master’s degree in Theology, Pastoral Theology,
Catechetics, Youth Ministry or Religious Studies, and have strong
organizational skills, with the ability to recruit and delegate. The
focus is to bring all ages to a closer understanding and involvement
as part of the Body of Christ. The successful candidate will have
strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate
effectively and work with a variety of constituents, including
children, and will treat all with respect and compassion. Bi-lingual
skills (English-Spanish) are needed.
